Opis:: Pomimo sporego zainteresowania problematyką autonomii terytorialnej sam termin wciąż przynależy do katalogu pojęć spornych i kontrowersyjnych. W artykule dokonano przeglądu definicji oraz konfrontacji ich wersji historycznych i współczesnych i na tej podstawie ustalono cechy konstytutywne autonomii, zwłaszcza w ujęciu terytorialnym. Praca pokazuje również kilka możliwości typologii autonomii, zaznaczając różnice pomiędzy klasycznymi a współczesnymi podziałami.
Despite a deep interest in phenomenon of territorial autonomy construction, the concept itself belongs to the catalogue of contentious and controversial notions. There is no consensus on single and firm definition of territorial autonomy. The article reviews historical and contemporary definitions of that term. Consequently, the constitutive features of autonomy are outlined, especially in its territorial approach. The work also proposes several different approaches to the typology of autonomy, highlighting the differences between the so-called classic and the contemporary nature of this solution.

Opis:: Objective: The purpose of this article is to show changes in the understanding of academic autonomy and the manifestations of its erosion, by appropriating this value to legitimise the increase in managerial autonomy, discrediting the value of community autonomy and increasingly restricting individual academic autonomy. Methodology: The article is based on a critical analysis of the literature dealing with the reality of the functioning of autonomy in higher education institutions and materials related to the implementation of contemporary higher education reforms - mainly in Poland. Findings: Changes in the perception of autonomy, threats to institutional and individual autonomy resulting from the uncritical subordination of transformations of higher education to the new public management concept as well as institutional isomorphism are presented. Value Added: Attention has also been paid to ignoring the critical discourse on the consequences of too-one-sided transformation of higher education institutions, losing key values, whose carrier is community and individual autonomy - both academic teachers, for whom it is a necessary condition for the development of didactic and scientific creativity, as well as students who only in a situation of feeling are able to take responsibility for their own development. Recommendations: Individual autonomy and participatory management, which determine creative activity and academic entrepreneurship, should be a particular concern for university managers. It is necessary to undertake research on the autonomy of students as members of the academic community.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest analiza relacyjnej teorii autonomii osobowej autorstwa Catriony Mackenzie. Na początku przedstawiony został teoretyczny kontekst tej propozycji, w tym cechy charakterystyczne i przykłady relacyjnych ujęć autonomii osobowej. Następnie zaprezentowana została teoria Mackenzie. Zgodnie z nią należy wyróżnić siedem warunków autonomii tworzących trzy odrębne osie: samostanowienie, kierowanie sobą oraz upoważnienie siebie. Żaden z tych warunków nie jest bezwzględnie konieczny, a ocena poziomu autonomii jednostki ma mieć charakter kontekstualny. W ostatniej części artykułu podjęto próbę oceny teorii zaproponowanej przez australijską uczoną. Zauważono, że warunek autentyczności tożsamości praktycznej powinien zostać zastąpiony wymogiem posiadania spójnej tożsamości praktycznej. Aby zaś teorię można było wykorzystywać do oceniania autonomii konkretnych decyzji, należy ją uzupełnić o dwa kolejne warunki: zgodność decyzji podejmowanej przez jednostkę z jej tożsamością praktyczną, a także nieuleganie czynnikom ograniczającym dobrowolność jej decyzji, takim jak przymus, perswazja i manipulacja.
The purpose of the article is to analyze the relational theory of personal autonomy proposed by Catriona Mackenzie. First, the theoretical context of the theory is shown, including key features of the relational approach to autonomy. Then the multidimensional analysis of the concept of autonomy proposed by Mackenzie and the theory of autonomy based on it are presented. According to the theory, seven conditions of autonomy should be distinguished. The conditions are grouped into three separate axes: self-determination, self-governance, and self-authorization. Moreover, the assessment of the level of autonomy of an individual should be contextual. Finally, an attempt is made to assess the value of the conception proposed by the Australian scholar. Among other things, it is argued that for the theory to be useful in assessing the autonomy of particular decisions it should be supplemented with at least one further condition: the coherence of a decision made by a given person with her practical identity.

Opis:: The author of the article concentrates on Silesian regionalists, primarily on the Silesian Autonomy Movement, its social activity as well as political, cultural, and social perception of this activity. Silesian regionalism was a considerable surprise for many Poles. For some of them, the postulates proposed by the Movement seem not only unprecedented in the history of Poland but also threatening the territorial integrity of the country. Public discussions about the Movement are dominated by emotions, not factual arguments, and lack scientific view on the matter. The article aims at filling at least a part of this gap.

Opis:: With learning contexts globally promoting putting learners in the centre, it is no surprise that autonomous learning will gain ground in contemporary classrooms. As there is no learner autonomy without autonomous teachers, investigating instructors’ preferences about autonomous learning is necessary for more successful language education. The research assessed Georgian teachers’ viewpoints on fostering autonomous learning in EFL acquisition. The study employed a close-ended questionnaire completed by over 100 teachers. The analysis concludes that Georgian teachers associate obstacles with a lack of resources, technical problems, and class size, while challenges linked to teachers include lack of experience, limited development opportunities, and time management.

Opis:: For over twenty years in Silesia the propaganda and organizational campaigns under the banner of autonomy have been intensified. Admittedly, the influences of such organizations as the Silesian Autonomy Movement (Ruch Autonomii Śląska) or Association of People of the Silesian Nationality (Związek Ludności Narodowości Śląskiej) are small, but the idea of the autonomy of Silesia wins more and more followers. The increasing number of participants of various campaigns, public gatherings, marches organized by these associations have all proved it. The leader of the Silesian Autonomy Movement (Ruch Autonomii Śląska) puts a strategy into action entitled “Autonomy 2020” which, among other things, strives to create League of Regions in Poland organizing in Poznan in 2012 a conference for the followers of autonomy, and a demonstration - the March of Regions - in Warsaw in 2015. Then, their referendum campaigns will start. They are supposed to focus on both constitutional amendments and coming into effect of the Organic Silesian Province Status in 2020 which will define the principles of autonomy.

Opis:: Amartya K. Sen is criticised for a modification of mainstream rational choice theory by an introduction of the commitment concept. This kind of modification sometimes is treated as a mistake. This article attempts to interpret the Amartya Sen’s concept of rationality. The means to this end will be an analysis of the ways of explanation of socalled Sen’s mistake. Three critical approaches to Sen’s concept of rationality made by Philip Pettit, Daniel Hausman and Geoffrey Brenan will be examined. In conclusion Sen’s concept of rationality, which includes the concept of commitment, should be interpreted as an approach which provides a subject with an autonomous expression of oneself, agency, responsibility and skills of critical thinking.
