Opis:
The aim of this article is to show the impact of demographic changes on the situation in the services of the Silesian Voivodeship and its selected cities. The analysis covers the period of 1999–2019. The method of comparative analysis was applied in the study. The presented material does not allow defining the nature of this impact unambiguously. The dominant trend in the population decline in the voivodship and in most of its cities does not automatically result in a decline in the level of the development of services. We also observe stabilization or even its increase. This also applies to those services that are addressed to people of pre-working age, i.e. the group with the largest regression in the population. However, the dynamic growth in the number of seniors results in a significant increase in the number of institutions and social programs addressed to them. Yet, there is no doubt that services addressed to the elderly do not fully meet the needs of this group of residents today, and taking into account demographic forecasts, they must show high dynamics of development in the forthcoming years.

Opis:
The ageing of the population is today one of the most important demographic processes that is taking place in many countries. This process is connected with the transition from high to low fertility and mortality. However, the beginning of this process and its duration is different in different countries, so the proportion of elderly in the total population varies depending on the country, which is being analyzed. In this article author analyzed the process of demographic ageing in Japan in 1950 – 2100 with using the data from the World Population Prospects (the medium variant of fertility).

Opis:
In the twentieth century, changes in the population number of microstates were very diversified. It is possible, however, to observe similarities in population changes. On the basis of the following two criteria a typology of population changes was developed, i.e. the population growth rate and the variability coefficient of the population growth rate. Five types of population changes wei'e singled out: from countries with a very smali population growth and a smali variability coefficient to those characterised by very large values of both of the discussed criteria.

Artykuł przedstawia propozycje współczynników starzenia się ludności z perspektywy demografii potencjalnej – w ujęciu statycznym i dynamicznym. Prezentuje sposób wyliczania potencjałów życiowych dla populacji oraz dla poszczególnych grup wiekowych, które stanowią punkt wyjścia w demografii potencjalnej. Wartości współczynników starzenia się ludności w kategoriach pojęć demografii potencjalnej zostały obliczone na przykładzie Polski.
The article presents the proposals for population aging rates defined from the perspective of potential demography – in a static and dynamic perspective. It also presents the method of calculating life potentials for the population and for individual age groups, which are the starting point in potential demography. The values of the population aging rates in terms of the concepts of potential demography were calculated for Poland as a case study.

Opis:
    The aim of this study is to identify the scale of Polish emigration of elderly residents in the twenty-first century. At the outset presented in the literature developed concepts explaining the mechanisms of migration of seniors. Analyzing the actual movement of seniors, the focus was mostly on the scale of emigration, and the main directions of movements. The analysis was based on data on permanent emigration from the country in the years 2002-2013 are available on the Central Statistical Office. The result of the analysis indicate that older Poles are small, relatively stable in recent years, the proportion of immigrants. Migrants seniors are most often those who are married, characterized by a low level of education.  
  Celem niniejszego opracowania jest rozpoznanie skali emigracji starszych mieszkańców Polski w XXI wieku. Na wstępie przedstawiono wypracowane w literaturze przedmiotu koncepcje wyjaśniające mechanizmy migracji seniorów. Analizując rzeczywiste przemieszczenia seniorów, skupiono się głównie na pokazaniu skali emigracji oraz głównych kierunków przemieszczeń. Analiza została oparta o dane dotyczące emigracji na stałe z kraju w latach 2002-2013 dostępnych na stronie Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego (GUS). Wynik analizy wskazują, że starsi Polacy stanowią niewielki, względnie stały w ostatnich latach odsetek emigrantów. Emigrującu seniorzy to najczęściej osoby będące w związkach małżeńskich, charakteryzujący się niskim poziomem wykształcenia. Słowa kluczowe: migracje osób starszych, demografia, emigracja

Ethnic Transformations on the Latvian Territory in the 20th Century and at the Beginning of the 21st CenturyThis paper presents demographic and ethnic transformations in the territory of Latvia. First, information is provided on the origins of the population of Latvian nationality. Then, ethnic composition of the population inhabiting the present-day Latvian territory at the end of the 19th century is characterised. The basis for the respective statistical analysis is constituted by the results of the Russian census of 1897. This census showed, side by side with the Latvian population, also important German, Russian, Jewish, and Polish minorities. The subsequent part of the paper is devoted to the ethnic situation in the interwar period. Here, the census carried out in 1935 is the main source of information. Essential demographic transformations took place during World War II. The paper accounts for the war losses, which in ethnic terms had a selective character. Latvian Jews were exterminated, while the remaining groups also suffered great losses. Then, the paper takes up the subject of the demographic-ethnic situation during the post-war Soviet occupation and the existence of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic. In this period, numerous migrants from the farther-off territories of the Soviet Union moved to Latvia, these Russian-speaking migrants being primarily of Russian nationality. This resulted in the essential shift in the ethnic composition of the population in Latvia. The effects are reflected in the data from the Soviet censuses of 1959 and 1989. The results of these censuses are subject to interpretation in the paper. The last part of the article is devoted to ethnic changes in the sovereign Latvian state. Statistical and substantive analysis was carried out using the census data of the year 2000, and the estimated data from the year 2014. The contemporary ethnic structure of the entire country and in individual provinces was established. Przemiany narodowościowe na ziemi łotewskiej w XX i na początku XXI wiekuW artykule przedstawiono przemiany demograficzno-etniczne na ziemi łotewskiej. We wstępie podano informacje o rodowodzie ludności narodowości łotewskiej. Następnie zaprezentowano i scharakteryzowano skład narodowościowy na współczesnym terytorium państwa łotewskiego w końcu XIX wieku. Podstawą analizy statystycznej były rezultaty spisu rosyjskiego z 1897 roku. Ujawnił on oprócz Łotyszy liczną mniejszość niemiecką, rosyjską, żydowską i polską. Kolejna część publikacji poświęcona jest sytuacji narodowościowej w okresie międzywojennym w niepodległym państwie łotewskim. Wykorzystano tu głównie spis przeprowadzony w 1935 roku. Poważne przeobrażenia demograficzne miały miejsce w latach II wojny światowej. Określono straty wojenne, które miały charakter selektywny w ujęciu narodowościowym. Przyniosły one eksterminację łotewskich Żydów oraz duże straty wśród pozostałych grup etnicznych. Dalsza część artykułu dotyczy sytuacji demograficzno-narodowościowej w okresie powojennej okupacji sowieckiej i istnienia Łotewskiej SRS. W tym czasie napłynęło na terytorium Łotwy wielu migrantów z głębi ZSRR. Była to ludność rosyjskojęzyczna, głównie narodowości rosyjskiej. Doprowadziło to do istotnej zmiany składu narodowościowego kraju. Odnotowały to spisy sowieckie z lat 1959 i 1989. Ich wyniki poddano interpretacji. Ostatnia część artykułu poświęcona jest zmianom narodowościowym zachodzącym już w suwerennym państwie łotewskim. Przeprowadzono analizę statystyczną i merytoryczną, korzystając z danych spisowych z 2000 roku oraz danych szacunkowych z 2014 roku. Określono współczesną strukturę narodowościową w skali całego kraju i wybranych prowincji.

Opis:
The motivation of this paper is to check whether inflation is linked to the population age structure. To check this hypothesis, a panel data model is used. We regress the changes in CPI on a set of macroeconomic variables. The results of the estimations suggest that there may be a relation between demography and low-frequency inflation. A larger old-age dependency ratio is correlated with lower inflation. This may confirm some of the previous empirical findings that ageing is deflationary when related to increased life expectancy.
