Opis:
This paper firstly analyzes the concept of availability of satellite constellation. Then the method of constellation availability analysis is proposed based on Markov chain model, outage analysis, as well as MTBF and MTTR of satellite constellations. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the method.
Artykuł w pierwszej kolejności analizuje pojęcie dostępności konstelacji satelitów. Następnie proponuje metodę analizy dostępności konstelacji opartą na modelu łańcuchów Markowa, analizie przestojów, oraz MTBF i MTTR konstelacji satelitów. Metodę zilustrowano przykładem.

Opis:
Rozpatrywany jest jednorodny łańcuch Markowa o wielu stanach pochłaniających. Przedstawiona jest metoda wyznaczania średniego czasu dojścia do wybranego stanu pochłaniającego. Metoda oparta jest na rozszerzeniu zadanego łańcucha Markowa o nowe stany. Dla łańcucha rozszerzonego definiowana jest funkcja wypłat towarzysząca tranzycjom. Szczególne podejście do analitycznego rozwiązania problemu związane jest z zależnością wypłaty nie tylko od tranzycji, ale także od czasu. Rozpatrywane w artykule zadanie pojawia się przy projektowaniu interfejsów, protokołów, planowania etapowych przedsięwzięć o charakterze transportowym, produkcyjnym itp.
A homogeneous Markov chain with many absorbing states is considered. A method to obtain an average time to reach a selected absorbing state is presented. The method is based on an extension of the given Markov chain with new states. For the extended Markov chain a reward function associated with transitions is defined. A particular approach to the analytical solution of the problem is based on the dependence of rewards not only on transitions, but also on time. The task considered in this paper emerges during the design of interfaces, protocols, planning of staged transport or production projects etc.

This paper deals with the performance assessment of a textile industry, namely African Textile Manufactures (ATM) Ltd., in Chalawa, Kano industrial estate, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The entire system ATM has different sections of machines for processing various assignments. The machines in the sections have diverse capabilities. We assumed the following subsystems: spinning, weaving, pretreatment, printing, and steaming. The failure rates of subsystems are constant, and they follow exponential distribution, while the repairs follow two types of distributions, namely general distribution and Gumbel–Hougaard family copula distribution. The system analyzed by employing supplementary variable and the Laplace transform. Various measures of reliability have been computed for differential values of failures and two types of repair. The conclusions and some recommendations are addressed to improving the management of ATM.

Opis:
Current and future climate conditions and their impact on water balance, ecosystems, air quality and bio and agro-climatology were investigated in the region of the Lusatian Neisse within the two EU -projects – NEYMO and KLAPS. This work focuses on the climate analysis of the region at the German-Polish border as a preliminary step for a hydrological analysis of current and future conditions. Observed climatological data were processed and analysed using the indicators air temperature, precipitation, sunshine duration, potential evapotranspiration and the climatic water balance (CWB). The latter defines the difference between precipitation and potential evapotranspiration and is a measure for the climatological water availability in the region. Observations were used to statistically downscale data from Global Circulation Models under various scenarios regarding greenhouse gas emissions (A1B, RCP 2.6, RCP 8.5) and applying the WETTREG-method for regionalization. In total, 50 climate projections for periods up until the end of the 21st century were analysed, with the application of the mentioned indicators. For the period 1971-2010, increasing trends of temperature, precipitation, sunshine duration and potential evapotranspiration were found. This leads to a reduced CWB in the summer half-year (SHY), which could be partly compensated by an increase in the winter half-year (WHY). Trends of temperature, sunshine duration and potential evapotranspiration remain positive for the far future (2071-2100), but precipitation decreases. These climatic conditions aggravate water availability, especially in the SHY. Impacts on water management are very probable and were therefore further investigated in the NEY MO project that applied hydrological models.

Opis:
Transport is one of the factors influencing the development of metropolitan areas. However, for its efficient work, numerous optimizations are required. Main tasks are shortening travel time, improving service quality and increasing the number of passengers served. The author has presented current studies on the field in optimization of public transport, mainly ways to optimize the transport network construction, based on large data sets about the population and their communication behaviour. Methods of combining various types of public transport with each other are presented. In the paper also are presents authors studies on the communication accessibility within the city of Cracow. Estimated distances from buildings to various types of public transport stops. The results were presented in aggregated form. Calculated communication speed of three types of public transport functioning in Cracow has also been discussed.

New systems are produced and developed to meet specific needs, and their reliability is the most important issue. In the maritime industry, evaluating failures in a ship’s propulsion system results in high costs and the loss of prestige for the company. Land/sea fleet employees need to detect and minimize the failures that may occur in ship propulsion systems in advance to ensure the continuity of the ships’ operations. In this study, the recorded failure data of four different ships belonging to a fleet in the last 10 years are used. Failures were examined as a whole since the ships have similar propulsion systems. The obtained failure data were grouped, and the average time to fix the failures was determined by the chief engineer and made suitable for reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) analysis. A suitable model was created for grouped failures by Isograph’s RWB software. As a result of the analysis of the propulsion system and its subsystems, the main engine of the ship was shown to have the best reliability. Furthermore, the most important components were the cylinders of the main engine as subsystems. This study highlights the components that are important to the reliability of a propulsion system. Thanks to the RAM analysis, improvements can be pinpointed on a ship’s propulsion system, which will increase the operations of the maritime industry. Reducing failures will further increase the confidence in maritime transport and strengthen its place among the modes of transportation. This study provides a valuable resource for academicians, experts, as well as companies working on reliability, availability, and maintainability in the future.

Quantifying the remake : a historical survey

American film remakes have enjoyed growing academic attention over the past 50 years. Together with prequels, sequels, reboots and spin-offs, they have been often viewed as exponents of contemporary recycling culture, symptomatic of Hollywood’s recent creative exhaustion and commercial risk aversion. In our article, we adopt a diachronic quantitative perspective to analyse and interpret the available metadata on 986 Hollywood remakes produced between 1915 and 2020. Our quantitative research shows the number of American remakes produced every year, their ratio in the total number of feature films produced annually, the percentage of remakes in the top most watched movies among the users of IMDb, as well as remake recency and percentage of remakes with titles recognizably linked to the original over the years. We find that popular convictions concerning the remarkable derivativity of contemporary American cinema stem from availability bias (accessibility of statistics concerning recent productions and relative neglect of historical data) and systemic differences in the function and prestige ascribed to feature film remakes by Old and New Hollywood filmmakers.

This paper proposes the application of computer simulation methods in order to analyse the availability of resources, buffers and the impact of the allocation of workers on the throughput and work-in-progress of a manufacturing system. The simulation model of the production system is based on an existing example of a manufacturing company in the automotive industry. The manufacturing system includes both machining and assembly operations. Simulation experiments were conducted vis-`a-vis the availability of the different manufacturing resources, the various allocations of buffer capacities and the number of employees. The production system consists of three manufacturing cells – each cell including two CNC machines – and two assembly stations. The parts produced by the manufacturing cells are stored in buffers and transferred to the assembly stations. Workers are allocated to the manufacturing cells and assembly stations, but the number of workers may be less than number of workplaces and are thus termed ‘multi-workstations’. Using computer simulation methods, the impact of the availability of resources, the number of employees and of the allocation of buffer capacity on the throughput and work-in-progress of the manufacturing system is analysed. The results of the research are used to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing systems using a decision support system and the proper control of resources. Literature analysis shows that the study of the impact of buffer capacities, availability of resources and the number of employees on assembly manufacturing system performance have not been carried out so far.

This paper analyses the influence of selected factors of operational availability of public city buses from the Municipal Transport Company (MPK) in Lublin based on a case study for two makes of buses: Solaris and Mercedes-Benz. The study investigated changes in operational availability in a function of operating time with a division into two periods of operation: warranty and post-warranty. To evaluate the significance of differences between average operational availability with regards to the above periods, one-way analysis of variance was applied. The results demonstrate that in the warranty period the operational availability of both makes of buses is similar, while the post-warranty period reveals a significant difference, with the operational availability being higher for Mercedes buses. As a result, this method can be of use for investment projects during purchase of new vehicles.
Celem pracy była analiza wpływu wybranych czynników gotowości technicznej autobusów komunikacji miejskiej na przykładzie autobusów marki Solaris i Mercedes-Benz w Miejskim Przedsiębiorstwie Komunikacyjnym (MPK) w Lublinie. Przeprowadzono badania zmian gotowości technicznej w funkcji czasu użytkowania z podziałem na dwa okresy użytkowania: gwarancyjny i pogwarancyjny. Do sprawdzenia istotności różnic średnich wartości gotowości technicznej, w zależności od marki autobusów oraz w zależności od okresów eksploatacji zastosowano jednoczynnikową analizę wariancji. Wykazano, że w okresie gwarancyjnym gotowość techniczna autobusów obu marek jest porównywalna, natomiast w okresie pogwarancyjnym jest istotnie różna, wyższa dla autobusu marki Mercedes. W rezultacie metoda ta może zostać użyta do programu inwestycyjnego podczas zakupu nowych pojazdów.

Opis:
Responding to the needs of quality and robustness of analysis and management of degradation of equipment, to increase their life cycle and to expand these facilities to become more and more sophisticated and agronomic. This work proposes a contribution to increase the survival of a gas turbine, installed in a gascompression plant, with a comparative study between the two-parameter Weibull distribution. A new modified Weibull distribution was proposed also to reduce the risk of occurrence of failure in this rotating machine. A Statistical analysis and validation on the synthesis of turbine's reliability data and failures were considered, with a particular focus on the use of this data to increase the availability of this type of machine. So, developing a maintenance plan based on their reliability indices for scheduled inspections.
