Opis:: The text aims to present the way Slovak onomastics developed using the concepts and terminology pertaining to onomastic paradigms and paradigmatic types of onomastics. A combination of abstraction and synthetic approach was used to determine the following types of onomastics: historical-etymological type of onomastics focusing on etymology mainly in the historical context; structuralist/system-linguistics paradigmatic type of onomastics presenting onymy as a system of different onymic types; socionomastic paradigmatic type of onomastics interpreting onymy in the context of social groups and society.
Tekst ma na celu przedstawienie sposobu, w jaki słowacka onomastyka rozwijała się w zakresie użycia pojęć i terminologii odnoszących się do paradygmatów i rodzajów onomastyki. Połączenie abstrakcji i podejścia syntetycznego posłużyło do określenia następujących rodzajów onomastyki: historyczno-etymologicznego rodzaju onomastyki skupiającego się na etymologii głównie w kontekście historycznym; strukturalistyczno/systemowo-lingwistycznego rodzaju onomastyki przedstawiającego onimię jako system różnych typów onimicznych; socjonomastycznego paradygmatycznego rodzaju onomastyki interpretującego onimy w kontekście grup społecznych i społeczeństwa.

Opis:: The text deals with the problem of multiculturalism as a concept which functions in social sciences and humanities; it also functions in onomastic research and in the theory of onomastics. The author in her reflection refers to the recently published monograph “Names and Naming. Multicultural Aspects” edited by O. Felecan and A. Bugheşiu (Palgrave Macmillan 2021, pp. 490). In the first part of the article, the author briefly explains the most important concepts related to this issue, including: globalization, glocalization, transethnicity, cultural hybridity. She draws attention to the changes in their understanding in contemporary humanities and social sciences. She presents the most important assumptions of the monograph and the possibilities of including the important concept of multiculturalism into onomastic research carried out all over the world. In the described studies, proper names become an important determinant of individual and group/ethnic identity. The second part of the article presents detailed concepts and research approaches presented in the volume, concerning e.g. proper names in the USA, Russia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Nigeria. The third part discusses the texts of Polish authors, with particular emphasis on Professor Barbara Czopek- ‑Kopciuch’s (1952‒2020) “Multiculturalism in Polish Toponymy”, which is her last onomastic text. In conclusion, the author pays attention to the application of the notion of multiculturalism in empirical research and in theoretical reflection in onomastics. She stresses the necessity of interdisciplinary research in this field.

Opis:: The paper presents different notions regarding the general functioning of motivation during the process of formation of proper names. Making use of the specific methodological key, the analysis moves to the marketing chrematonymy and concentrates on it. The author distinguishes several types of motivation in the marketing chrematonymy area, including the conceptual motivation, the interonomastic motivation, the associative-connotative motivation, the formal-creative motivation and finally, the cultural motivation, which plays the principal role in this statement.

Opis:: Denier du rêve (1934) by Marguerite Yourcenar is set in Rome, in 1933, and is built around a smallnumber of characters from different geographical, social and cultural backgrounds and this determinesthe choice of anthroponyms with notable forms from a diatopic, diastratic and even diachronic point ofview. For other characters, however, a Cratylian (Barthes 1972) function of the name should be singledout, as the forms of the name are loaded with implicit semantic information.We also dwelt on some hypocoristic forms alien to the Italian onomastic heritage and ones whichthe author corrected in subsequent editions of the novel.

Opis:: The toponymy of the Polish Carpathian Mountains is rich in structures motivated by nomina propria and referring to evil forces. They are mainly based on four appellations: [Polish] czart, szatan, diabeł, piekło. They usually refer to locations that are difficult to access for humans, e.g. steep slopes and mountain peaks, remote rocks, gorges, etc. Names of geographical objects are motivated by folk tales which allowed local populations to explain mysteries connected with places evoking horror. In these folk legends the devil reveals his three faces – a face of a destroyer, a constructor and a guardian of treasures. The second category of motivations constitute toponyms whose natural forms are related to danger or activities of natural phenomena, e.g. strong winds. The last motivation category is a result of rituals considered by local populations as heretical.
