Opis:
Nowadays, the finite element method (FEM) – boundary element method (BEM) is used to predict the performance of structural-acoustic problem, i.e. the frequency response analysis, modal analysis. The accuracy of conventional FEM/BEM for structural-acoustic problems strongly depends on the size of the mesh, element quality, etc. As element size gets greater and distortion gets severer, the deviation of high frequency problem is also clear. In order to improve the accuracy of structural-acoustic problem, a smoothed finite-element/boundary-element coupling procedure (SFEM/BEM) is extended to analyze the structural-acoustic problem consisting of a shell structure interacting with the cavity in this paper, in which the SFEM and boundary element method (BEM) models are used to simulate the structure and the fluid, respectively. The governing equations of the structural-acoustic problems are established by coupling the SFEM for the structure and the BEM for the fluid. The solutions of SFEM are often found to be much more accurate than those of the FEM model. Based on its attractive features, it was decided in the present work to extend SFEM further for use in structural-acoustic analysis by coupling it with BEM, the present SFEM/BEM is implemented to predict the vehicle structure-acoustic frequency response analysis, and two numerical experiments results show that the present method can provide more accurate results compared with the standard FEM/BEM using the same mesh. It indicates that the present SFEM/BEM can be widely applied to solving many engineering noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) problems with more accurate solutions.

Opis:
A six-node triangular element is presented in this paper for structural analysis. With this approach, the approximation functions of the interpolation strategy are given by using the double interpolation procedure, which includes nodal values as well as averaged nodal gradients. The numerical results are, therefore, achieved following the proposed element. The efficiency of this element and its comparison is described by some fundamental examples. Better numerical solutions and smoother distributions of stresses not achieved by the standard elements will be provided when using this element. The computational time is also presented to overview the pros and cons of the proposed element. In fact, the new element’s computational time is higher than that based on the standard element because of the double interpolation procedure, but one does not need post-processing of any smoothing operation.

Opis:
The paper presents a non-linear finite element procedure for analysis of membrane structures. A four-node quadrilateral finite element is formulated to represent a general curved elastic geometrically non-linear surface. The described isoparametric element is CO-continuous, of constant thickness, and assumes a plane stress criterion. A simple numerical example is presented as an application of the described theory.

Opis:
The paper presents a formulation and verification of a 2D soil – structure interaction model which enables the analysis of reinforced concrete shallow foundations under monotonic short-time loads. The structure supported by a deformable subsoil, whose elasto-plastic features are being considered. The structure model describes: the ability of crack creation, non-linear stress – strain characteristics of concrete and reinforcement and also reinforcement – concrete interaction. The foundation – subsoil contact model enables the identification of slide and adhesion zones. The presented mathematical formulation allowed for the development of a set of finite elements simulating the behaviour of the foundation, the subsoil and the contact zone between them. The elasto-plastic approach was used to describe the behaviour of the structure, the subsoil and the contact phenomena. Computer programs were prepared and verifying analyses were presented.

Opis:
The article presents the results of numerical simulations using the FEM (Finite Element Method) of the engine mount strength for mounting an aircraft diesel engine with opposite pistons called PZL-100. Four versions of the mount prepared by aircraft engine producer WSK "PZL-Kalisz" company were analyzed. Tests were performed in Catia v5 software in the Generative Structure Analysis module. The boundary conditions were engine gravity force, propeller thrust force, and propeller torque. S235JR steel was defined as the material. A design grid with tetrahedral elements with a single element size of 2 mm was used. As part of the simulation study, four structural solutions for the test engine mounts were calculated in terms of strength. The results of stress maps and the magnitude of deformation of the mount elements were compared. Based on the obtained results, one of the mount versions was recommended for actual fabrication.

Opis:
This paper deals with the punctureability of a steel plate by a projectile at different angles of attack. The effect of the projectile angle on the force required to penetrate a plate made of A36 steel is presented using Finite Element Method calculation software. Using Abaqus software, a dynamic model of a projectile striking a plate was modelled and the force required to penetrate a 5 mm thick steel plate was presented. The intro-duction gives an overview of the genesis of the topic and a brief historical background. The chapter on numerical analysis presents the numerical model used and how the simulation was modelled. In the conclusions, a summary of the results was formulated and conclusions were drawn regarding the observations and insights of the analysis. The force required to penetrate the plate was observed to increase with increasing projectile angle of attack and it was found that, as the angle of the plate increased, the force required to penetrate increased.

Opis:
Purpose: The study was aimed at biomechanical evaluation of a novel Limb Prosthesis Osseointegrated Fixation System (LPOFS) designed to combine the advantages of interference-fit and threaded solutions. Methods: Three cases, the LPOFS (designed), the OPRA (threaded) and the ITAP (interference-fit) implants were studied. Von-Mises stresses in bone patterns and maximal values generated while axial loading on an implant placed in bone and the force reaction values in contact elements while extracting an implant were analysed. Primary and fully osteointegrated connections were considered. Results: The results obtained for primary connection indicate more effective anchoring of the OPRA, however the LPOFS provides more appropriate stress distribution (lower stress-shielding, no overloading) in bone. In the case of fully osteointegrated connection the LPOFSs kept the most favourable stress distribution in cortical bone which is the most important long-term feature of the implant usage and bone remodelling. Moreover, in fully bound connection its anchoring elements resist extracting attempts more than the ITAP and the OPRA. Conclusions: The results obtained allow us to conclude that in the case of features under study the LPOFS is a more functional solution to direct skeletal attachment of limb prosthesis than the referential implants during short and long-term use.

Opis:
The aim of the paper was to compare the influence of the applied fill on the energy absorbed by the energy ubsorbing structural elements made of composite, steel and from composite with fill foam. The experimental tests were carried out on an INSTRON universal testing machine at the speed rate of the machine's traverse equal 10 mm/min md the numerical analysis has been performed using MSC. Dytran software based on the Finite Element Method. The elements were subjected to axial kinematic loads. The higher specific absorbed energy occurs in the case of energy absorbing elements made of composites and from composite with fill foam. These elements can be applied in structures designed for the protection of people or limitation of the whole structure failure, e.g. in the case of a helicopter or car crash etc. The failure progressing in a relatively uniform manner results in the fact that the work md for failure of an energy absorbing element causes a substantial reduction of the impact load results. Application of energy absorbing elements may be a system dissipating the energy of a car impact into a crash barrier. The results of numerical simulation of stiffness plate hitting to the road barrier are presented. Experimental tests and numerical simulations were also presented for a composite sleeve subjected to progressive failure, which allowed carrying out simulation and analysis of a crash into a road barrier protected by a system of two such sleeves.

Opis:
The article shows the results of a computer simulation using the Finite Element Method (FEM) in order to analyze the infl uence of bows geometry cross-section for the rigidity of the instrument measuring the rolling circle diameter of the wheelset wheels. Two types of bow cross-section were considered, a rectangular shape and a shape of four thin pipes welded together. Th e considered measuring instruments should fulfi l the requirements of the standards ZN-00/PKP-3509-09 and BN-82 3509-13. FEM simulation analysis of the instrument models reveals insuffi cient instrument rigidity and indicates the need to introduce changes in the construction of the existing measuring instruments for measuring the rolling circle diameter of the wheelsets wheels.
