Opis:: The language situation in Belarus is atypical in many respects and difficult to grasp theoretically: for its analysis, it is particularly important to consider the internal perspective, i.e. attitudes towards the language. The aim of the study is to develop an interdisciplinary set of analytical instruments for the discursive determination and detailed description of (language) attitudes by integrating a socio-psychological attitude model and a discourse-linguistic topos-based multi-level analysis. This tool can be used to record the contradictory construct of the national language in collective thinking in Belarus and to gain knowledge on how to design language planning activities in the country. The identified discursive argumentation architecture can serve as a reference base when setting up argumentation typologies in relation to non-dominant national languages. The research model created is intended to allow each social discipline to engage in a differentiated examination of attitudes towards all discursively present socially relevant objects in a generalized manner.

Opis:: The paper asks whether contrastive studies are conducted within the framework of French discourse analysis and attempts to find an answer to that question. First, the Author offers a brief overview of the origins of Polish textology and French discourse analysis, and explains the differences in how these two streams of linguistics approach comparative studies. While contrastive studies are not undertaken by French discourse analysts, recent years have seen attempts at comparing sociolinguistic behaviours using the criterion of occupation as well as cultural differences.
Artykuł jest próbą znalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy w ramach francuskiej analizy dyskursu prowadzone są badania kontrastywne. Autorka przypomina w skrócie genezę polskiej tekstologii i francuskiej analizy dyskursu, tłumacząc różnice w podejściu obu lingwistyk do badań porównawczych. Francuscy dyskursywiści nie prowadzą badań kontrastywnych; można jednak w ostatnich latach zauważyć tendencje do porównywania zachowań społeczno-językowych w aspekcie wykonywanych zawodów oraz ze względu na różnice międzykulturowe.

Opis:: The aim of the considerations presented in this paper is to determine the specificity of movement in contemporary dance. This specificity is considered at three levels: as the relationship of body parts to each other, as the relation of the body and part of it to the stage space, and as the relation of the body and parts of it to the qualitative parameters of movement such as speed, tension and size. The research data consist of the descriptions of dance performances, which are published in printed or electronic form during the organization of conferences, meetings and dance theatre festivals.

Opis:: Internet visitors, having found this instrument of global communication, have discovered a new field of verbal battles where they can release their emotions, expressing completely anonymously views. The Internet has changed the image of debate, and of polemic discussion, which earlier was an exchange of replies, and now thanks to forums and “reactions”, a “bath of opinions” has manifest, where everyone can add his two cents. The commentary we would like to present in this work are the reactions of the readers of the website www.lequipe.fr who after each article had the opportunity to express their arguments and their reactions to the article they had read.

Opis:: Contemporary text linguistics once again faces the necessity to ask itself a question about the object of its study. The reason for it is the existence of new definitions of text in which text is understood as a process and not as a product, as well as the developing studies of discourse and its social, political, cultural, and ideological determinants. In the present article I attempt to defend the traditional understanding of text as a product, not at the same time negating the necessity of studying communicative and pragmatic processes of discourse determinants. In order to achieve this I use three concepts which, when treated as different aspects of the same phenomenon, may help to grasp the complex object of text linguistics, which is text treated holistically as an integral phenomenon generated in the process of language communication embedded in a broad cultural context. These three concepts which I treat as a unity, and at the same time as three aspects of defining the object of text linguistics are: text, utterance, and discourse.

Opis:: Following the linguistic turn in analytical philosophy, concern for language underlies some of the most important strands of philosophical practice, making issues of mind, language and discourse virtually inseparable elements of scientific inquiry. Just as philosophy looks to language and linguistics to endorse different ontological and epistemological postulates, linguistics looks to philosophy in addressing its key questions of meaning, function and use. In this paper I argue that pragmatics and discourse analysis are areas where the relation between language, linguistics and philosophy is particularly salient. Crucially, philosophy, its conceptions and frameworks, should never be viewed as ‘external’ to discourse. Rather, discourse and discourse study involving pragmatic tools are, in themselves, areas of intense philosophical practice. Results of this practice are relevant and of interest to not only language philosophers, but also to those exploring ontological and epistemological matters of general philosophy.

Opis:: W artykule przeanalizowano komentarze pod filmami Grzegorza Brauna, jednego z liderów prawicowej formacji Konfederacja Wolność i Niepodległość, które poruszały kwestię pandemii koronawirusa. W badaniu wykorzystano wiele metod językoznawstwa korpusowego, przyjmując perspektywę współczesnych badań nad dyskursem. Wykazano, że zwolennicy Grzegorza Brauna otwarcie kwestionowali pandemię koronawirusa, przedstawiając ją jako narzędzie w rękach szeroko pojętych grup wpływu. Do wrogów Polski zaliczono również Żydów i Izrael. Co więcej, przedstawiciele polskiego rządu zostali ukazani jako działający przeciwko polskiej racji stanu oraz wykonujący polecenia światowej elity. Jednocześnie komentujący deklarowali silne ugruntowanie w wierze katolickiej oraz poparcie działań Brauna. Studium wnosi wkład do badań nad dyskursem okołopandemicznym, koncentrując się na społeczności skupionej wokół wpływowego polityka.
The article analyses comments under videos on the coronavirus pandemic, uploaded by Grzegorz Braun, one of the leaders of the Polish right-wing Confederation Liberty and Independence political party. The study uses a wide range of corpus linguistics methods, adopting the perspective of contemporary discourse. The research shows that supporters of Grzegorz Braun openly questioned the coronavirus pandemic, portraying it as a tool in the hands of a broadly defined elite. They also identified Jews and the state of Israel as main enemies of Poland. Moreover, actions of the Polish government were perceived as against the Polish raison d’état and a part of fulfilling the orders of the global elites. Furthermore, the commentators declared a strong devotion to the Catholic faith and support for the actions of Grzegorz Braun. The study contributes to the study on pandemic discourse by focusing on a community centered around an influential politician.

Opis:: NATO ideology, or NATOism, has been part of American and European political agendas for decades. This ideology remapped the unipolar ruling system represented by the United States. However, NATOism not only prompts an identity of self-belonging and appreciation in pro-NATO states for a union of military and security cooperation, but also incites alarming panic and apprehension in anti-NATO countries by triggering an unconscious survival-of-the-fittest race. The world is now experiencing both of these conditions, discursively reformulated by political elites. The current study applies a multidisciplinary approach to the analysis of NATO discourse and its effect on creating unipolar coalitions. The methods of discourse analysis, corpus linguistics and cognitive linguistics were employed in the analysis of Joe Biden’s speeches in order to uncover his role in constructing pro-NATO ideology within international relations, and the ways in which the Russia-Ukraine war has decontextualized the mental structure of NATO identity. The results revealed that certain discourse strategies were inextricably linked in constructing a coalition of the willing against Russian hostility.
Ideologia NATO, czy też natoizm, od dziesięcioleci stanowi część amerykańskich i europejskich programów politycznych. Ideologia ta przekształciła jednobiegunowy system rządzenia reprezentowany przez Stany Zjednoczone. Jednak natoizm nie tylko pobudza poczucie własnej przynależności i uznanie dla unii na rzecz współpracy wojskowej i bezpieczeństwa w państwach pronatowskich, lecz także wywołuje alarmującą panikę i obawy w krajach antynatowskich, wyzwalając nieświadomy wyścig o przetrwanie najsilniejszych. Świat doświadcza obecnie obu tych stanów, dyskursywnie przeformułowanych przez elity polityczne. W niniejszym badaniu zastosowano multidyscyplinarne podejście do analizy dyskursu NATO i jego wpływu na tworzenie jednobiegunowych koalicji. Metody analizy dyskursu, lingwistyki korpusowej i lingwistyki kognitywnej zostały wykorzystane w analizie przemówień Joe Bidena w celu ujawnienia jego roli w konstruowaniu ideologii pronatowskich w stosunkach międzynarodowych oraz pokazania sposobów, jakimi wojna rosyjsko-ukraińska zdekontekstualizowała mentalną strukturę tożsamości NATO. Wyniki pokazały, że pewne strategie dyskursu były nierozerwalnie związane z konstruowaniem koalicji skłonnych do walki z wrogością Rosji.

Opis:: In diesem Artikel werden Besonderheiten der politischen Kommunikation vorgestellt. In der Forschung ist man sich einig, dass politische Sprache keine Fachsprache oder Varietät im traditionellen Sinne ist. Dennoch hat es Versuche gegeben, Merkmale des politischen Sprachgebrauchs genauer zu definieren. Solche Versuche stammen aus dem linguistischen Teilgebiet der „Politolinguistik“, dessen Geschichte kurz beschrieben wird, um die methodischen Fortschritte dieser Disziplin zu skizzieren. Schließlich gibt der Beitrag einen Überblick über wichtige Forschungsergebnisse der Politolinguistik und über Diskurse, die für die Kommunikationsgeschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland von langfristiger Bedeutung sind und waren.
In this article, special features of political communication are presented. Researchers agree that political language is not a technical language or variety in the traditional sense. Nevertheless, there have been attempts to define the characteristics of political language use more precisely. Such attempts originate from the linguistic subfield of „politolinguistics“, whose history is briefly described in order to outline the methodological advances of this discipline. Finally, the article provides an overview of important research results in politolinguistics and of discourses that are and have been of long-term importance for the history of communication in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie korzyści i zagrożeń wynikających z implementacji komputerowego językoznawstwa korpusowego do analizy dyskursu. Artykuł prezentuje zastosowanie narzędzi NLP w analizie korpusu dyskursu parlamentarnego z lat 1989– 2019 pod kątem uwarunkowań instytucjonalizacji dialogu obywatelskiego w Polsce oraz w analizie porównawczej tematu wielokulturowości w dyskursie rady miasta i dyskursie mediów w Krakowie w okresie 2014–2018 (VII kadencja Rady Miasta Krakowa). Autorzy wskazują, w której fazie i jak lingwistyka komputerowa wpisuje się w szeroki kontekst problematyki związanej z badaniami komunikologicznymi – przede wszystkim jako narzędzie, które może wspierać proces wnioskowania.
The aim of this paper is to present the benefits and risks of implementing corpus linguistics for discourse analysis. The authors describe the origins and development of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools in a historical perspective and provide examples of their application in social sciences, particularly in the methodology of Social Communication and Media Sciences. Fragmentary findings of studies carried out at the Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication at the Jagiellonian University in collaboration with the CLARIN-PL consortium illustrate a practical approach to the topic. The article presents the application of NLP tools in the analysis of the corpus of parliamentary discourse from 1989-2019 in terms of determinants for the institutionalization of civic dialogue in Poland and also in the comparative analysis of multiculturalism in the city council discourse and media discourse in Krakow between 2014–2018 (7th term of the Krakow City Council). The authors indicate in which phase and at which stage of communication research the use of computational linguistics can support the conclusion.
