Opis:
In this study, the optimization of air gap magnetic flux density of open slotted axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machine which was developed for wind turbine has been obtained using the Taguchi experimental method. For this, magnetic analyzes were performed by ANSYS Maxwell program according to Taguchi table. Then the optimum values have been determined and the average magnetic flux density values have been calculated for air gap and iron core under load and no-load conditions with ANSYS Maxwell. Traditionally, 15625 analyzes are required for 6 independent variables and 5 levels when experimental method is used. In this study, optimum values are determined by 25 magnetic analyzes, which use L25 orthogonal array. For this purpose, both factor effect graph and signal to noise ratios are used, according to the factors and levels which are obtained from the factor effect graph and the signal to noise ratio. Parameters are re-analyzed by Maxwell. The optimum factors and levels are determined. For optimized values, the air gap magnetic flux density is improved by 65.7% and 173.26%, respectively, according to the average value and the initial design. Therefore, the variables are optimized in a shorter time with Taguchi experimental design method instead of the traditional design method for open slotted AFPM generator. In addition, the results were analyzed statistically using ANOVA and Regression model. The variables were found to be significant by ANOVA. The degree of influence of the variables on the air gap magnetic flux density was also determined by the Regression model.

Opis:
In the paper, the authors discuss the numerical and experimental modal analysis of the cantilever thin-walled beams made of a carbon-epoxy laminate. Two types of beams were considered: circumferentially asymmetric stiffness (i.e., CAS) and circumferentially uniform stiffness (i.e., CUS) beams. The layer-up configurations of the laminate were chosen to get a vibration mode coupling effect in both analysed cases. The aim of the paper was to perform the numerical and experimental modal analysis of the composite structures, when a flapwise bending with torsion coupling effect or flapwise-chordwise bending coupling effect took place. Firstly, numerical studies by the finite element method was performed. The numerical simulations were carried out by the Lanczos method in the Abaqus software package. The natural frequencies and the corresponding free vibration modes were determined. Next, the experimental modal analyses of the CAS and CUS beams were performed. The test stand was consisted of a special grip, two beams with an adhered holder, the LMS Scadas III system with a modal hammer and an acceleration sensor. Finally, the results of both methods were compared.

Opis:
Elastomer materials are commonly used in manufacture of parts of machines and vehicles. A numerical analysis of these elements is possible with many calculation methods, however, due to such properties as incompressibility, very often large deformations, non-linear constitutive compounds, friction and contact phenomena, an analysis by the fmite element method turns out to be a very complicated task. The purpose of experimental studies which were carried out was to determine parameters of hyperelastic materials used for production of elastomer tracks for industrial vehicles. Experiments were carried out with rubber test samples of the hardness close to the hardness of materials used for manufacture of rubber tracks, lining of the driving wheels and track rollers. These parameters were determined for models of hyperelastic materials (Mooney-Rivlin) used for calculations. The obtained results were comparedby numer ical calculations with the help of the finite element method with a model sample at identical load conditions for various models of a material including a material of linear properties (of the constant Young's modulus). Obtained results of studies and numerical analyses demonstrate only a limited potential of the use of linear models for hyperelastic materials - this use is possible only at small deformations. Obtained results of measurements and analyses can be used for proper modelling of parts made of elastomer materials.

Opis:
In this work, the influence of the engine rotational speed on the natural frequencies of the turbine blade was investigated. In first part of the work the experimental modal analysis of the blade were made using the vibration system. The investigated blade was fixed to the movable head of the shaker. The blade amplitude was measured using the piezoelectric accelerometers. As results of experimental modal analysis, the resonant frequencies for first three modes of vibration were determined. In the next step of the work, the numerical models of the blades with different size of the finite elements were performed in order to check the convergence of the numerical solution. For each models the natural frequencies were determined for the non-rotated blade. The numerical results were next compared to the results of experimental modal analysis. After this comparison, one model only was selected for the further computations. In the last part of the work, the complex multi-steps analysis was performed in order to investigate the influence of turbine rotational speed on the modes and natural frequencies of the blade. Obtained results are important from both the research and also the practical point of view and have an influence on reliability of the engine.

Opis:
In this article, the authors present the geometry and measurements of the properties of an acoustic metamaterial with a structure composed of multiple concentric rings. CAD models of the structure were developed and subsequently used in numerical studies, which included the study of resonant frequencies using the Lanczos method and an analysis of sound pressure level distribution under plane wave excitation using the finite element method. Subsequently, experimental tests were carried out on models with the same geometry produced with three different materials (PLA, PET-G, and FLEX) using a fused deposition modeling 3D printing technique. These tests included: determining insertion loss for a single model based on tests using the measurement window of a reverberation chamber and determining transmission loss through tests in a semi-anechoic chamber. Sound wave resonance was obtained for frequencies ranging from 1700 to 6000 Hz. Notably, the experimental studies were carried out for the same structure for which numerical tests were conducted. The physical models of a metamaterial were manufactured using three different readily available 3D printing materials. The results of laboratory tests confirm that the created acoustic metamaterial consisting of multi-ring structures reduces noise in medium and high frequencies.

Opis:
This work focuses on finding a numerical solution for vehicle acoustic studies and improving the usefulness of the numerical experimental parameters for the development stage of a new automotive project. Specifically, this research addresses the importance of modal cavity damping for vehicle exerts during numerical studies. It then seeks to suggest standardized parameter values of modal cavity damping in vehicular acoustic studies. The standardized value of modal cavity damping is of great importance for the study of vehicular acoustics in the automotive industry because it would allow the industry to begin studies of the acoustic performance of a new vehicle early in the conception phase with a reliable estimation that would be close to the final value measured in the design phase. It is common for the automotive industry to achieve good levels of numerical-experimental correlation in acoustic studies after the prototyping phase because this phase can be studied with feedback from the simulation and experimental modal parameters. Thus, this research suggests values for modal cavity damping, which are divided into two parts due to their behaviour: ξ(x) = −0.0126(x − 100) + 6.15 as a variable function to analyse up to 100 Hz and 6.15% of modal cavity damping constant for studies between 30 Hz and 100 Hz. The sequence of this study shows how we arrived at these values.

Opis:
Dry electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) are widely used for purification of exhaust gases in industrial applications. Maintenance of their high efficiency depends primarily on periodical cleaning of the collecting electrodes (CEs). Dust removal (regeneration of CEs) is realized by inducing periodical vibrations of the electrodes. The paper presents results of vibration modelling of a system of CEs; the results were obtained by means of the finite element method, the hybrid finite element method, the finite strip method and a model formulated using Abaqus. Numerical results are compared with those obtained from experimental measurements. Conclusions concerning numerical effectiveness and exactness of the methods are formulated and reasons for differences are discussed.
Sformułowano wnioski dotyczące skuteczności i numerycznej dokładności modeli oraz przedyskutowano przyczyny różnic występujących pomiędzy nimi.

Opis:
This paper deals with the experimental and numerical analysis of three-point bending phenomenon on beam composite profiles. Flat rectangular test specimens made of carbon–epoxy composite, characterised by symmetric [0/90/0/90]s laminate ply lay-up, were used in this study. Experimental testing was carried out with a COMETECH universal testing machine, using special three-point bending heads. In addition, macroscopic evaluation was performed experimentally using a KEYENCE Digital Microscope with a mobile head recording real-time images. Parallel to the experimental studies, numerical simulations were performed using the finite element method in ABAQUS software. The application of the above-mentioned interdisciplinary research techniques allowed for a thorough analysis of the phenomenon of failure of the composite material subjected to bending. The obtained research results provided a better understanding of the failure mechanism of the composite material.

Opis:
The rigid finite element method (RFEM) has been used mainly for modelling systems with beam-like links. This paper deals with modelling of a single set of electrodes consisting of an upper beam with electrodes, which are shells with complicated shapes, and an anvil beam. Discretisation of the whole system, both the beams and the electrodes, is carried out by means of the rigid finite element method. The results of calculations concerned with free vibrations of the plates are compared with those obtained from a commercial package of the finite element method (FEM), while forced vibrations of the set of electrodes are compared with those obtained by means of the hybrid finite element method (HFEM) and experimental measurements obtained on a special test stand.
