Opis:
The use of periodic structures as noise abatement devices has already been the object of considerable research seeking to understand its efficiency and see to what extent they can provide a functional solu- tion in mitigating noise from different sources. The specific case of sonic crystals consisting of different materials has received special attention in studying the influence of different variables on its acoustic performance. The present work seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the behavior of these structures by implementing an approach based on the numerical method of fundamental solutions (MFS) to model the acoustic behavior of two-dimensional sonic crystals. The MFS formulation proposed here is used to evaluate the performance of crystals composed of circular elements, studying the effect of varying dimen- sions and spacing of the crystal elements as well as their acoustic absorption in the sound attenuation provided by the global structure, in what concerns typical traffic noise sources, and establishing some broad indications for the use of those structures.

The article presents the maps of xx stress component and compares values of analytical and numerical calculations for the stress intensity factor range of welded specimens with fillet welds which subjected to cyclic bending. The tests were performed under constant value of moment amplitude Ma = 9.20 Nm and stress ratio R = σmin/ σmax = -1. The specimens were made of drag steel rod S355. The specimens were solid and welded. The numerical models were simulated with ABAQUS suite and numerical calculations performed with FRANC3D software.

Opis:
This article briefly introduces the characteristics of ships' electrical power networks, and an existing system is described as an example. A mathematical model of a selected power system, including generators with a drive and its loads, is presented. The algorithm implementing the author's numerical method, named 'the average step voltages method', is described. The chosen numerical method is notable for its stability and high accuracy, even in combination with a large integration step size. Software and hardware applications of the RT AVR tester are also shown. To check the adequacy of the simulations using the implemented model, experimental measurements were carried out. The measurements, including dynamic states, obtained by the computer tester with the AVR system, as well as the physical model with the AVR system, are summarized. Possibilities for usage in the marine industry in the future are also outlined.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono dostępne w literaturze metody numeryczne stosowane do rozwiązywania równań bilansu populacji komórek. Metody te zostały podzielone na trzy grupy: metody różnic skończonych, metody widmowe oraz metody elementów skończonych. Scharakteryzowano te metody oraz przedstawiono ich zalety i wady.
Available in literature numeric methods applied to solve the cell population balance equations are presented in this work. The methods are divided into three groups: finite differences methods, spectral methods and finite element methods. These methods are shortly described. Advantages and disadvantages of the methods analysed are shown.

Opis:
The paper deals with the solution of problems that concern fractional time derivatives. Specifically the author’s interest lies in solving circuit problems with so called fractional capacitors and fractional inductors. A numerical method is proposed that involves polynomial interpolation and the division of the entire time interval (for which computations are performed) into subintervals. Analytical formulae are derived for the integro-differentiation according to the Caputo fractional derivative. The rules that concern the subinterval dynamics throughout the computation are also presented in the paper. For exemplary linear circuit problems (AC and transient) involving fractional order elements the solutions have been obtained. These solutions are compared with ones obtained by means of traditional methods.

Opis:
This paper firstly expands an efficient numerical methodology developed from the source panel method to the added mass calculation of long column systems in fluid. Structures submerged in fluid are considered as two-dimensional and are discretized into a number of source panels. The influence coefficient matrices and the potential function are then calculated and the fluid forces are calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Finally, we utilize this present method to calculate the mass coefficients of some typical problems, which effectively verifies its feasibility and accuracy. This method takes into account both applicability and computational efficiency. On the one hand, in contrast to the analytical method which is only applicable to specific cross-sections, this method is applicable to arbitrary boundaries with C0 continuity in mathematics. On the other hand, this method requires less mesh and computation than commercial software. This paper extends the application of the source panel method which is widely used in aerodynamics to provide a reference for added mass calculation problems in engineering.

Worked out differential equations of the motion of flexible incompressible bar on a rough ramp at its pushing with permanent speed. The special cases of the motion are considered without friction, at the different angles of slope of plane, at the different corners of entry of bar on a plane. The form of axis of bar for the considered cases was found by the numeral methods of integration.

Opis:
Given the importance of thermal insulation in the walls of buildings to provide both electrical energy and thermal comfort in different weathers. In this research, the ANSYS-14 simulation program was used, considered one of the programs used to evaluate the thermal behavior of buildings, considering the effect of weather changes and building components during the steady and unsteady heat transfer of a composite wall from several layers. The simulation program was used for four types of insulation inside the wall with different thermal properties (Glass-Fiber Slab, Polyurethane Board, Hardboard (Medium) and Softwoods). A model was built for a traditional wall without an insulator and a model for a traditional wall that contains an insulator in different locations (from the outside, in the middle, and from the inside). Also, the model was isolated from the top and bottom surfaces, and each insulation material was applied in three locations in the wall. The conventional composite wall was exposed to a constant thermal load of 60 °C from the outside, and the inside wall was exposed to a thermal load of 25 °C This study focused on three steps. The first step is to know the best type of the four thermal insulators used in this study. The second step was to evaluate the best location of the insulator in the wall. The third step included the results of the previous two steps through which the best insulator was chosen and the best location in the wall. Three values of insulator thickness 2, 5 and 8 cm were used. Through the results of the study, it was found that placing the insulator on the outside of the wall plays a large role in reducing the rate of unsteady heat transfer and that its effect decreases by approaching the steady state, as it does not affect it in the case of the total steady state. The results also showed that the rate of unsteady heat transfer decreases by decreasing the thermal diffusivity of materials. It is also noticeable that the effect of the density and specific heat capacity appears clearly at the beginning of the thermal loading on the material. That effect decreases by approaching the steady state as the effect of the heat transfer coefficient of conduction appears. It was also found that both hardboard and polyurethane are the best in thermal insulation. It was also observed that the relationship between heat transfer rate and thickness is inverse-linear.
