Opis:: Idea of technological progress based on two different types of research that generate radical and incremental innovations, became new approach in endogenous growth modeling. This approach seems to be useful in modeling relationships between technological progress, natural resources, environmental quality and economic growth. The purpose of this paper is to answer questions about relationships between long-term economic growth, technological progress and use of natural resources. The main object is an impact of natural resources use on growth rate and a role of endogenous technological progress.

Opis:: Research background: Various methods for technological progress assessment and evaluation exist in the context of economic development. Each of the methods possesses distinct advantages and disadvantages in analysis of technological progress fluctuations. For most neoclassical growth theories, technological progress measures are included as exogenous variables, thus excluding evaluation of factors influencing technological progress variation throughout time. Purpose of the article: The aim of this article is to offer improvements on classical technological progress evaluation methodologies for manufacturing industries, separating effect of intersectoral technological progress spillover effect from internal factors influencing technological progress growth and perform analysis in the case of Lithuanian manufacturing industry. Methods: Earlier research papers used linear time series regression and vector autoregression methods to assess technological progress values and define equations explaining effect of different manufacturing level indicators on technological progress measure growth. This research paper uses results of previously mentioned methods and performs simulation analysis applying agent-based modelling framework. Findings & value added: The conducted vector autoregression analysis has showed that two variables which influence technological progress most significantly are labor productivity measure and gross profit value. Sensitivity analysis emphasizes that effect of these two variables on technological progress growth is substantially different. Increase in gross profit value affects technological progress growth for wider range of sectors from Lithuanian manufacturing industry (15 out of 18 analyzed sectors? technological progress measure values are affected by changes in gross profit, while changes in labor productivity influence technological progress values in the case of 9 sectors). Rising gross profit values also produce intersectoral technological progress spillover effect more significantly, while growth in labor productivity measure has stronger effect on technological progress fluctuations for sectors which are able to exploit this effect. Presented research suggests improved methodology for intersectoral technological progress spillover effect assessment in the context of manufacturing industries.

Opis:: W artykule rozważany jest problem ewentualnej utraty wiedzy ekonomicznie użytecznej w ramach modelu wzrostu. Zaproponowany model wzrostu opiera się na alokacji kapitału ludzkiego przez pokolenie młodsze między różne zadania produkcyjne, by uzyskać możliwie wysoki dochód w przyszłości dzięki specjalizacji. Alternatywą dla uczenia się istniejących technik produkcji jest innowacja. W ramach modelu sformułowany zostaje wniosek, że warunkiem innowacyjności gospodarki jest wzrost rozmiaru gospodarki mierzonego liczbą tworzących ją podmiotów. Stagnacja demograficzna prowadzi zarazem do stagnacji technologicznej i w konsekwencji gospodarczej, postępująca zaś depopulacja do trwałego regresu technologicznego. Rozważania zostają uzupełnione o wpływ dyfuzji technologii, dzięki której rozmiar rynków zagranicznych może substytuować rozmiar gospodarki krajowej dla potrzeb innowacji i utrzymania poziomu wiedzy.
The article presents the problem of possible loss of economically useful knowledge. A growth model is proposed that centers on accumulation of human capital and its allocation among production tasks by youngert generation in order to acquire possibly high income once they become the older generatiuon. Alternative exists between learning an existing set of skills and innovating. The conclusion of the model is that in order to achieve continuous innovation, the size of the economy must grow. Demographic stagnation leads to technological stagnation, and continuous depopulation leads to technological regress. Analysis is extended to include diffusion of technology, which can lead to overseas populatuion being a substitute for home population in regard to innovation and preservation of knowledge.

Opis:: Znaczenie strategiczne surowców naturalnych w rozwoju współczesnej gospodarki jest dostrzegane zarówno w Unii Europejskiej, jak i w Polsce. Działania oparte na ekoinnowacyjności spotkały się z szerokim poparciem społecznym, jednakże w wielu krajach (w tym także Polsce) natrafiły na bariery finansowe. Wspieranie wszystkich możliwych wariantów technologii okazało się niemożliwe, zatem pomoc uzyskały nowe technologie o dużym znaczeniu dla gospodarki. Powstało wiele międzynarodowych projektów badawczych z aktywnym udziałem przedsiębiorców. Efektem ich pracy było wyłonienie liderów w preferowanych obszarach gospodarczych. Rozwój innowacji następuje często na szczeblu lokalnym, na którym działania pobudzające ich tworzenie są szczególnie skuteczne, dzięki wspieraniu małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw (np. stymulowanie rozwoju klastrów). Ekoinnowacje wydają się być w chwili obecnej czynnikiem, który pozwoli krajom Unii Europejskiej stawić czoło wyzwaniom ekonomicznym, społecznym i środowiskowym. Mają one zasadnicze znaczenie dla zminimalizowania negatywnego wpływu działalności człowieka na środowisko naturalne. Jednocześnie są sposobem na pogodzenie tych działań z dążeniem Europejczyków do podnoszenia standardu życiowego.
The strategic importance of natural resources in development of the contemporary economy is perceived both in the European Union and in Poland. The measures based on eco-innovativeness have met a broad social support, though in many countries (also in Poland) they encountered financial barriers. Supporting all possible versions of technology has appeared to be unrealistic; hence assistance was received by new technologies of a great importance for the economy. There have emerged many international research projects with an active participation of entrepreneurs. An effect of their work has become emergence of leaders in the preferred economic areas.Development of innovation often takes place at the local level where actions stimulating their setting up are particularly effi cient, owing to support provided for small and medium-sized enterprises (e.g. cluster development stimulating). Eco-innovation seems to be currently the factor that will allow the European Union countries tackling the economic, social and environmental challenges. It is of the substantial importance for minimising a negative impact of human activity on the natural environment. At the same time, it is a way to reconcile those actions with the Europeans striving to raise their living standard.

Opis:: The paper examines the latest research into factors behind changes in the functional distribution of incomes, or the relationship between the share of wages and profits in GDP. The author describes the key determinants of theoretical and empirical research and explains why interest in these issues has increased in recent years in both Poland and elsewhere. The second part of the paper discusses the most controversial issues linked with the definition and measurement of the share of wages and profits in GDP, while part three focuses on general historic trends linked with the distribution of profits and wages. Part four discusses the results of the latest econometric research that takes into account the role of globalization and technological progress. Part five is dedicated to research dealing with capital-labor substitution, which is important from the perspective of theoretical debates in contemporary macroeconomics. The author concludes that future research into the distribution of profits and wages should cover countries with a medium and low level of development.

Opis:: The relevance of the research is determined as Ukraine, a country with a developed manufacturing industry, opens up new opportunities and challenges in the context of the global economy, which is increasingly based on global value chains, and studying this impact is key to achieving economic growth and competitiveness. The study aims to examine the relationship between Ukraine’s participation in global value chains and the development of the manufacturing industry to identify opportunities and prospects for their interaction. The methods used were analytical, functional, system analysis, deduction, synthesis, and comparison. The results showed that industrial development is closely linked to changes in production, exports, and participation in global value chains, which affect production volumes and the number of employees in Ukrainian industries. The practical implications are to facilitate the development of better export strategies and improve sectoral policies to increase the competitiveness and efficiency of Ukrainian enterprises in global value chains.

Opis:: W pracy, na podstawie danych produkcyjnych, zidentyfikowane cztery główne czynniki odpowiedzialne za kształtowanie się efektywności uprawy pszenicy ozimej. Przeprowadzono szczegółową analizę struktury tych czynników oraz analizę trendów zmian wartości tych czynników w latach badań. Dodatkowo przeanalizowano zmiany w czynnikach nakładowych jakie miały miejsce w badanym okresie. Przeprowadzono również analizę zmian w efektywności technologii produkcji pszenicy ozimej oraz w efektywności doboru odmian do uprawy tego gatunku.
In this work, based on production data, four main factors were identified responsible for profitability of winter wheat cultivation. A detailed analysis of structure of these factors was performed and trends of changes in the factors’ values in the years of study were assayed. Additionally, changes in the costs factors were analyzed which occurred during this period. The changes in efficiency of winter wheat production technology and efficiency of selection of varieties were also examined.
