Opis:: Internationalisms as a source of equonymy in Slavic technical terminology (on the basis of Polish, Russian and Bulgarian material)The article presents one of the main sources of Slavic synonymy in technical terms – the phenomenon of internationalization. On the basis of a comprehensive set of Polish, Russian and Bulgarian terms of the range of machinery (construction and operation) it was found that Polish terminology uses international units primarily as a component of analytic terms, while the Russian and Bulgarian usually borrow the entire terminological unit and less often use a parallel native term. Internacjonalizmy jako źródło ekwonimii w słowiańskiej terminologii technicznej (na materiale polskim, rosyjskim i bułgarskim)W artykule przedstawiono jedno z głównych źródeł ekwonimii w słowiańskiej terminologii technicznej – zjawisko internacjonalizacji. Na podstawie analizy obszernego zbioru polskich, rosyjskich i bułgarskich terminów z zakresu budowy i eksploatacji maszyn ustalono, że polska terminologia używa jednostek międzynarodowych przede wszystkim jako części składowej terminów analitycznych, zaś rosyjski i bułgarski systemy terminologiczne zapożyczają zazwyczaj całą jednostkę terminologiczną i rzadziej używają równolegle terminu rodzimego.

Opis:: W artykule autorka zaprezentowała stan badań nad współczesną terminologią techniczną w językach słowiańskich, a następnie omówiła terminologię branży cukrowniczej w trzech językach słowiańskich, należących do odrębnych wspólnot językowych – polskim (z grupy zachodniosłowiańskiej), rosyjskim (ze wschodniosłowiańskiej) i bułgarskim (z południowosłowiańskiej). Z przedstawionych badań wynika, że słowiańskie terminy techniczne to zazwyczaj jednostki dwuwyrazowe składające się z rzeczownika i przymiotnika w języku polskim i z przymiotnika i rzeczownika w bułgarskim i rosyjskim. Analiza zbioru pokazała, że w zakresie konwencjonalnego słownictwa technicznego obserwuje się tendencje właściwe słownictwu naturalnemu badanych języków zarówno w zakresie wstrzemięźliwości bądź łatwości w zapożyczaniu leksyki obcej, jak i w roduktywności poszczególnych form (np. NN).
The author of the paper has presented the state of research on contemporary technical terminology in Slavic languages and has discussed the terminology of the sugar industry in three Slavic languages belonging to separate linguistic communities – Polish (Western Slavic), Russian (Eastern Slavic) and Bulgarian (Southern Slavic). Presented research shows that the Slavic technical terms usually consist of two words: noun and adjective in Polish and adjective and noun in Bulgarian and Russian. Analysis of harvest showed that in the sphere of conventional technical vocabulary, trends are adequate to natural vocabulary in these languages, both in terms of limitation or ease in linguistic borrowings of foreign lexis, as well as the productivity of individual forms (eg NN).

Opis:: Fictional texts containing specialized terms pose a challenge for literary translators. Rooted in raw factual accuracy, such terms can nevertheless be used in very expressive ways. Raymond Chandler, for example, used oil industry terminology (bull wheel, derrick, oil field, scum, walking-beam, and especially the term sump), in his first novel The Big Sleep (1939) within intentionally artistic phraseology, involving alliteration, parallel structuring and repetition. The novel was (re)translated into Spanish a number of times (El sueño eterno 1947, 1948?, 1958, 1972 and 2001), enabling an analysis into how different translators met this challenge. Though the published translations reveal a lower frequency of repetition in all cases, as well as inconsistent co-textual use of the terminology and usage of non-terms, omissions and errors, these instances are often qualitatively compensated for with creatively reproduced alliterative elements and added literary devices. This study of a seldomly explored aspect of literary translation shows how professionals are aware of the importance of language for specific purposes in literature and how effective balances between technical accuracy and literary expressiveness can be attained. For theorists who consider that literary and technical translation are separate fields, the results show that literary translators tend to bridge this gap proficiently with both accuracy and literary flair.

Opis:: Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden zielgemäß verschiedene Aspekte der Übersetzung von Patentschrift en aus dem Deutschen ins Polnische präsentiert. Die Translation von Patenten ist ein mehrdimensionales Problem, zumal zur Patentvalidierung in Polen Übersetzungen von patentrechtlichen Dokumenten ins Polnische vorzulegen sind. Patentschrift en stellen einen hybriden Komplex technischer Inhalte in rechtlicher Funktion. Einerseits zeichnen sich Patentschrift en durch genaue und nachvollziehbare Beschreibung aus, andererseits müssen sie dermaßen diff us verfasst werden, dass die Konkurrenz daraus keine eigene Entwicklung direkt ableiten kann. Die Patentschrift en sind inhaltlich weitgehend spezialisiert. Zu ihren typischen Merkmalen gehört eine Vielfalt stilistischer Gepfl ogenheiten sowie terminologischer Besonderheiten. Aus diesem Grund sind Patentschrift en in vieler Hinsicht eine Herausforderung für Übersetzer, da Nichteinhaltung patentrechtlicher Konventionen folgenschwer sein, d. h. den Schutzbereich eines Patents beeinträchtigen kann. Im Artikel werden solche Aspekte der Patentübersetzung behandelt wie formelle Fragen, Textsortenspezifik, Stil, Terminologie und Einsatz computerunterstützter sowie maschineller Übersetzung.
The aim of the article is to present various aspects of the translation of patent documents from German into Polish. Th e translation of patents is a multidimensional issue, especially as translations of patent documents into Polish are required for patent validation in Poland. Patent documents represent a hybrid complex of technical content in a legal function. On the one hand, patent documents are characterised by a precise and comprehensible description, on the other hand, they must be written in such a diffuse manner that competitors are not able to derive their own development directly from them. Patent documents are deeply specialised in terms of content. Their typical characteristics include a variety of stylistic conventions and terminological peculiarities. For this reason, patent documents are a challenge for translators in many respects, especially as inconsistency with patent conventions can have serious consequences, i.e. affect the scope of protection. The article deals with aspects of patent translation, such as formal issues, text specifics, style, terminology, and the use of computer-assisted and machine translation.

Opis:: This article concentrates on polish jurnalists special language (technical language). It analises therminological layer of vocabulary of that speciffic code. The description includes various types of terms, i.e. scientific terms, technical terms, branch terms, interbranch terms and transterms. The article presents also the cases of terminological’s forms disappearance and their semantic modification. Considerations are completed by description of mechanisms purposive to creation new terms – neology and neosemantics.
