Opis:
Introduction and aim. Determining the needs of children hospitalized for treatment is important in terms of identifying children who are more at risk and developing support systems for the child and the family. We aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish needs of children questionnaire (NCQ) and cross-culturally adapt it to the Turkish language. Material and methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted using a total of 160 children aged 5-16 years who were hospitalized between May 2021 and May 2022. The linguistic, content validity, construct validity, and internal consistency of NCQ were assessed. Results. NCQ had a four-factor structure consisting of two categories and explained 76% of the total variance. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were 0.748, 0.799, 0.821, and 0.802 for the subscales of Caring, Information, Activities, and Relationships, respectively; and 0.893 for the total score. Inter-item correlations ranged from 0.149 to 0.702 (p<0.05). Conclusion. NCQ has a high level of validity and reliability for Turkish society. Turkish children aged 5 to 16 years were able to comprehend this instrument and express their needs and feelings about their hospitalization period.

Opis:
Introduction: The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) is an instrument that assesses the educational environment. Aim: The aim of this study was to psychometrically evaluate a Polish version of the DREEM instrument. Material and Methods: 203 medical students who fully completed the DREEM questionnaire were included in the study. Validity was evaluated through the analysis of construct validity and reliability. Results: After language validation the internal consistency was assessed. Cronbach’s alpha for the overall score was 0.93 and the five subscales were: perceptions of learning 0.86, perceptions of teachers 0.82, perceptions of atmosphere 0.75, academic self-perceptions 0.61, and social-self perceptions 0.61. The exploratory factor analyses, however, yielded dimensions that did not fully correspond to the original DREEM subscales. Conclusions: Internal consistency of the Polish version of the DREEM scale as a whole was excellent, however for each of five originally developed subscales it was lower and vary a lot; construct validity of Polish version was not compatible with the original structure of the DREEM scale but was reasonable. A new five-factor solution obtained in this study could be a reliable tool for assessing the medical education environment in the Polish circumstances, but it will require confirmation in future study.

Opis:
Many positive behaviours of youth are related to their values. In the field of education value assessment is central. However value expression is often very ambiguous. Therefore in an attempt to measure values with more universal, global, and cross cultural perspectives, Nazam, Husain and Khan (2015) developed a spiritual values scale. The initial validation of the scale was based on item content analysis, item reliability, internal consistency, and exploration of the factorial structure of spiritual values. But values are subjected to change due to many factors. Therefore revalidation of the scale remains an important research consideration. The present study extends the initial validation of the scale by using structure equation modelling to revalidate the dimensionality and reliability of the spiritual values scale. The sample consisted of 300 adolescents. The results suggested that out of 27 items 4 items to measure spiritual values are ineffective. The scale with 23 items still remains a reliable and valid psychological tool to assess the spiritual values of adolescents.

Opis:
The main research problem of this paper takes form of the question: Should we treat prosumption as one-dimensional or multi-dimensional phenomenon in the time of crisis? Existing literature defines presumption mainly from perspective of individualistic benefits for customer connected with personalization, but costs associated with buying and using products are largely neglected. Such understanding of prosumption is not justified in the time of crisis that puts households under budgetary pressure on the global scale. The empirical study presented in this paper suggests that prosumption is a two-dimensional phenomenon, where one can distinguish Rationalistic Prosumption and Exhibitionistic Prosumption. Two-dimensional measurement model is supported by the sample of users of community portals in terms of its reliability and validity. The paper indicates its theoretical contribution, managerial meaning and limitations. At the end of the paper further research directions are discussed.

Opis:
In this article, on the basis of questionnaire data collected for other purposes, the Authors want to show the consequences of various methods of shortening of tests and what may result from such an action for diagnosticians, researchers and examined individuals. The research aim of the work is to show the best method of shortening of the scale of questionnaires. Will shortening of a questionnaire according to different statistical techniques bring the same results? Will the quality of shortened scales be comparable? Is any of statistical techniques better for shortening of the scale of a questionnaire? The obtained results suggest a poorly controlable effect of the methods of questionnaire shortening. Moreover creating a short version on the basis of the results collected with the use of the full version leads to obtaining a tool with unknown diagnostic and psychometric properties.

Opis:
Introduction and aim. The period immediately after leaving the hospital is known as the transition home, which presents a critical time for parents to take on all the responsibilities and care of a child without the support of the hospital environment. The purpose of this study is to culturally adapt the Pediatric Transition Experience Measure (P-TEM) instrument into Turkish and test its validity and reliability. Material and methods. We conducted this methodological study with parents of children who were discharged from the hospital between May 2021 and May 2022. We evaluated linguistic, content, construct, convergent validity, and internal consistency. Results. The P-TEM exhibited a two-factor structure and accounted for 65% of the overall variability. The internal consistency reliability for the transition preparation and transition support subdimensions was 0.779 and 0.793, respectively, while the total measure had a reliability of 0.831. The item-total correlations for the P-TEM ranged from 0.493 to 0.671. Parents who received the highest P-TEM scores experienced a 5.1-point improvement (95% confidence interval: 1.7 to 8.6) in their satisfaction with healthcare services, which was greater than that of parents who reported lower P-TEM scores. Conclusion. It is worth noting that the P-TEM has been validated and has high reliability in Türkiye.

Opis:
Given the history of the past, black South African students from different settings face unique academic and emotional climate. Using the Differential Emotions Scale (DES) which focuses on ten discrete emotions, and building upon Boyle’s (1984) seminal work, this study reports a repeated-measure multiple discriminant function analysis for individual items across raters. The findings further indicate that majority of the DES items are sensitive indicators of the different innate and universal facial expressions. However, the construct requires revision so that it offers the examiner maximum flexibility in assessment at diverse levels, in terms of more extensive norming and programmatic replication. In brief, the DES potentially has much to offer provided that it is adequately developed for use in non-Western nations or contexts.

Opis:
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of ‘attitudes of nurses towards the patient’s use of TCM’ (APUTCM) and ‘communicative competence in TCM’ (CCTCM) scales. Materials and Methods: A total of 196 nurses participated in the study. A Nurse Information Form, APUTCM and CCTCM, and Holistic Complementary Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (HCAMQ) were used for data collection. Content Validity Index, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s α, item-scale correlation, test-retest, and parallel forms reliability were used to evaluate validity and reliability. Results: Of the participants, 76.0% were female and the mean age was 31.6±5.8 years. Content validity indexes of the scales were over 0.87. The factor loadings were over 0.612 for both scales. Cronbach’s α values of APUTCM and CCTCM were 0.955 and 0.928 respectively. Conclusions: Both scales were found valid and reliable in Turkish society to measure the attitudes of nurses toward the patient’s use of TCM and nurses’ communicative competence in TCM.
