There is a need to discuss these issues in order to understand the real meaning of simulator based training and to handle it effectively. Like other fields of training, use of simulation in the maritime industry is owing to the multiple factors covering technological, financial and training needs of the time. When properly used, supported by well trained and experienced instructors, simulator training, through its risk free environment, can contribute to a reduction in accidents and improve capability and efficiency, by providing trainees with the necessary experience and self confidence to carry out their roles, functions and tasks.

Opis:: The global virtual reality (VR) market is growing surprisingly fast. As VR applications continue to expand into various areas of life, attention is being paid to issues related to user well-being. The danger lurking for users is the occurrence of simulator sickness and artificial reality sickness, collectively referred to as sensory conflict. As early as the 1950s, an attempt was made to study simulator sickness. Unfavorable psychophysical symptoms occurred in pilots using the first flight simulators. With the development of technology, the graphic and simulation capabilities of the various types of simulators are increasing. Easier access to simulators using first person view (FPV) and thus more outstanding research capabilities allow new studies related to the incidence of this disease to compare symptoms occurring during simulator sessions with those occurring during realworld endeavors. The primary purpose of the review is to bring together the latest reports on different types of sensory conflict concerning factors that are symptomatic in prediction and diagnosis. Heart rate, brain activity, stomach activity, and skin conductance seem to be the most adequate, objective indicators of subjects’ susceptibility to this phenomenon. In addition, it is intended to systematize concepts related to sensory conflict in the broadest sense.

Trzeba w tym miejscu nadmienić, że rozwiązania te bazują glównie na programach komputerowych firm zachodnich.

Opis:: Objectives: Studies involving simulators are increasingly popular. We examined to what extent exposure to a variety of test conditions on the simulator affects the level of mood and severity of simulator sickness. In addition, we were interested in finding out to what degree the changes in mood are associated with the severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness. Material and Methods: Twelve men (aged M: 29.8, SD: 4.26) participated in the study, performing two 30-minute tasks in a driving simulator truck (fixed-base and mobile platform). For measuring mood, the UMACL questionnaire was used, and to assess the severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness, the SSQ questionnaire was used. Mood and the severity of simulator sickness symptoms were measured 3 times during the study (pretest, 2 min and 0.5 h after the test). Results: Symptoms of nausea and disorientation occurred after the tests on both simulators. In the case of the mobile platform, exacerbation of the symptoms associated with oculomotor disturbances was observed. These symptoms were particularly severe 2 min after completion of the test on the simulator, and they persisted for at least 0.5 h after the end of the test. The correlations between simulator sickness and mood explained from 35% to 65% of the variance of these variables. In particular, a strong association was observed between the oculomotor disturbances and a decrease in energetic arousal. This refers both to the effect level and the duration of these symptoms. Conclusions: Simulator sickness is a major problem in the use of simulators in both the research and the training of operators. In the conditions involving the mobile platform, not only was a higher severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness observed, but also a decrease in energetic arousal. Therefore, the implementation of the mobile platform can provide an additional source of conflict at the level of incoming stimuli and changes in mood may increase this effect. Thus, it seems important to consider the tasks performed on the simulator in the context of utility and the purpose for which we use them.

Opis:: During the process of development of the Full Mission Bridge Simulator, I have come in to a conclusion that an important part of a successful learning process is the ability to train with a high fidelity bridge simulator. The Polar areas are harsh environments and to survive there, one must have special training and experience. This surviving means that the polar ecosystem will survive from pollution and the vessels and their crew from the bad judgments or misconduct of vessel operators. The most cost-effective way to improve special skills needed in the Polar waters is to include bridge simulator training to the Deck Officers requirements. In this paper I will introduce a real life situation in which an icebreaker assisting a merchant vessel gets into a “close call” situation and how this was handled. Maritime industry hasn’t studied much about the influence simulator training has to the navigators. Here the maritime industry could learn from aviation and medical industry, since they have done some extensive scientific studies to prove the need for simulators.

Opis:: International sea transport has growing rapidly during the period of the last decade. Ships became larger and wider and its container capacity is still increasing to 12.000 TEU and even more. To navigate such vessels safely from port to port and specifically within the ports more and more enhanced computer-based systems are installed on the ships navigational bridges. Prediction tools are very helpful and already in use on ships for a long time. However, the simplification of existing predictions allows restricted use only and do not include the immediate response on changes of rudder and engine. Within this paper investigations into the feasibility and user acceptance of newly developed layout of navigation display will be introduced and selected results of simulation studies testing the influence on manoeuvre performance dependent on different kind of prediction functions will be discussed. Examples will be given for results from test trials in the full mission ship handling simulator of the Maritime Simulation Centre Warnemunde and a concept for the application of the developed .tools for purposes of collision avoidance is described.

Opis:: The paper presents one of the methods to determine the maximum vessel size allowed for the maneuver on tested sea area or harbour. This method is based on the Navi - Trainer PRO 5000 simulator by Transas Marine available to the authors at the Institute of Navigation and Hydrography of Naval Academy of Gdynia. In the paper was described the possible use of additional simulator software components to generate the necessary virtual sea area. The next stage of research work was making several tests based on the created virtual harbour. These simulations tests are carried out under variable weather conditions for various vessel sizes and maneuvering characteristics. The result of simulation test are very important for determine the parameters of the maximum vessel size and hydro-meteorological conditions allowing safe navigation.
