Opis:
The deposition of iodine-125 on silver bars to be sealed in titanium capsules as seed-type sources for brachytherapy was studied. For this purpose, a method of internal electrolysis was applied. The cell consisted of a silver anode contained in a Pt crucible serving as cathode. The plating solution contained sodium iodide-125 and sodium hydroxide. The yield of iodine-125 deposition for carrier-containing and carrier-free electrolyte solutions was determined. The deposition on uncutted Ag wires and on those cutted into 3 mm long bars was investigated. The influence of visible light on the coating process was examined. The leachability of iodine-125 from the silver wires as well as the activity distribution on the wires was measured. The obtained results indicate that the silver wire should be first coated with iodine-125 and then cutted into 3 mm long pieces. Based on this observation, a device for a batch-type procedure of manufacturing I-125 plated silver bars was designed and made. A design for simultaneous cutting and positioning of the activity-carrying bars into the titanium capsules is presented. This arrangement has been built and tested in trials. The tests confirmed that contamination of the source capsules can be minimized. Laser weldings of the titanium capsules were performed and the cross section of the welds examined by the use of an optical microscope.

Opis:
Giant radio sources (GRSs) are extremely valuable for better understanding the last stages of evolution of radio sources and their host galaxies, constraining the analytical models of their time evolution, verifying orientation-dependent unified schemes, etc. On the basis of the population statistics, derived from the existing evolutionary models, we have realized a deep deficit of low-luminosity GRSs observed at redshifts < 0.3–0–4 (Machalski and Jamrozy, 2000). In order to determine the cause of this deficit and find the missing giants, we have selected a sample of faint FRII-type GRS candidates, using the VLA 1.4 GHz sky surveys: NVSS (Condon et al., 1998) and FIRST (Becker et al., 1995). The first results of a search for the radio cores of our candidates with deep VLA observations at 4.9 GHz and 8.4 GHz, and the follow-up spectroscopic observations of identified optical counterparts is presented.

Opis:
This work reports the effects of some culture conditions on the production of glucose isomerase by Bacillus licheniformis. The bacterium was selected based on the release of 3.62 mg/mL fructose from the fermentation of glucose. Enzyme was produced using a variety of carbon substrates but the highest enzyme activity was detected in a medium containing 0.5% xylose and 1% glycerol (specific activity = 6.88 U/mg protein). Media containing only xylose or glucose gave lower enzyme productivies (specific activities= 4.60 and 2.35 U/mg protein respectively). The effects of nitrogen substrates on glucose isomerase production showed that yeast extract supported maximum enzyme activity (specific activity = 5.24 U/mg protein). Lowest enzyme activity was observed with sodium trioxonitrate (specific activity = 2.44 U/mg protein). In general, organic nitrogen substrates supported higher enzyme productivity than inorganic nitrogen substrates. Best enzyme activity was observed in the presence of Mg2+ (specific activity = 6.85 U/mg protein) while Hg2+ was inhibitory (specific activity = 1.02 U/mg protein). The optimum pH for best enzyme activity was 6.0 while optimum temperature for enzyme production was 50oC.

Opis:
The magnetar SGR 1935+2154 is the only known Galactic source of fast radio bursts (FRBs). FRBs from SGR 1935+2154 were first detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME)/FRB and the Survey for Transient Astronomical Radio Emission 2 in 2020 April, after the conclusion of the LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA Collaborations' O3 observing run. Here, we analyze four periods of gravitational wave (GW) data from the GEO600 detector coincident with four periods of FRB activity detected by CHIME/FRB, as well as X-ray glitches and X-ray bursts detected by NICER and NuSTAR close to the time of one of the FRBs. We do not detect any significant GW emission from any of the events. Instead, using a short-duration GW search (for bursts ≤1 s) we derive 50% (90%) upper limits of 10$^{48}$ (10$^{49}$) erg for GWs at 300 Hz and 10$^{49}$ (10$^{50}$) erg at 2 kHz, and constrain the GW-to-radio energy ratio to ≤ 10$^{14}$−10$^{16}$. We also derive upper limits from a long-duration search for bursts with durations between 1 and 10 s. These represent the strictest upper limits on concurrent GW emission from FRBs

Opis:
A well-known fact is that the world supplies of traditional fuel are decreasing and the world energy production from the alternative sources is constantly increasing. Each year the number of countries displaying a keen interest in development and application of regenerative energy is rising. Biomass is a considerable and perspective kind of fuel for Ukraine. Nowadays obtaining energy from biomass (wood, straw, plant remainders of agricultural production, manure, organic particle of hard domestic offcuts) is the field developing quickly and dynamically in many countries of the world. In favour of biomass speaks the fact that it has large power potential and refurbishable character. In our research we considered the use of straw for the receipt of energy and its practical value for a particular enterprise. As well as any type of power resource from biomass, burning of straw has a number of advantages. The advantage is that straw is indeed a regenerative source and is reproduced every year with the new harvest of grain crops. It is accessible for users, especially in rural locality that will allow saving part of facilities on traditional power carriers.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to explore different funding sources for young technology-based companies at different stages of their development, taking into consideration their characteristics. The study uses data from an extensive literature review on the start-up literature and a desk research analysis. The first part of the article focuses on the explanation of the concept of start-up with an emphasis on internal and external risks it can bear for a potential investor. The middle part of the article offers an overview on various division concepts into phases of a start-up. The final part explains characteristics of different kinds of investors in order to match them with specific phases of growth. The author’s findings reveal that the new technology-based firms demonstrate different financing patterns at different stages of development. The article may serve as an interesting overview for start-ups planning their development path as it attempts to reconcile different points of view. However, being based only on existing literature sources, further research is necessary for more profound conclusions.

Opis:
Renewable energy will play a key role in the transition towards a competitive, secure and sustainable energy system. In 2014 the European Commission proposed an objective to increase the share of renewable energy to at least 27% of the EU's energy consumption by 2030. The European Council endorsed this target which is binding at EU level. The Renewable Energy Directive (Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources and amending and subsequently repealing Directives 2001/77/EC and 2003/30/EC) was implemented in Poland on 20 February 2015 by the new renewable energy sources act. The objective of this article is to analyse the current state of the Polish energy sector related to the prosumer energy industry. It also describes the future potential for the development of prosumer energy in Poland. The analysis was conducted in the light of the new EU climate and energy initiatives. At the beginning, the article presents the current general state in the EU’s energy sector. European Union Climate and Energy Package targets up to 2050 and the state of renewable energy use gives the background to conduct an analysis of prospects for the development of prosumer energy in Poland. That is why the last part is devoted to the prosumer energy sector in Poland in the context of European Union regulations. The critical analysis of the current situation in that sector has made it possible to evaluate prospects for the development of prosumer energy in Poland in the context of the recently introduced legal regulations.

Opis:
Ambient concentrations of CO, as well as NOx and O3, were measured as a part of the PARADE campaign conducted at the Taunus Observatory on the summit of the Kleiner Feldberg between the 8th of August and 9th of September 2011. These measurements were made in an effort to provide insight into the characteristics of the effects of both biogenic and anthropogenic emissions on atmospheric chemistry in the rural south-western German environment. The overall average CO concentration was found to be 100.3±18.1 ppbv (within the range of 71 to 180 ppbv), determined from 10-min averages during the summer season. The background CO concentration was estimated to be ~90 ppbv. CO and NOx showed bimodal diurnal variations with peaks in the late morning (10:00-12:00 UTC) and in the late afternoon (17:00-20:00 UTC). Strong correlations between CO and NOx indicated that vehicular emission was the major contributor to the notable CO plumes observed at the sampling site. Both local meteorology and backward trajectory analyses suggest that CO plumes were associated with anthropogenically polluted air masses transferred by an advection to the site from densely populated city sites. Furthermore, a good linear correlation of R2 = 0.54 between CO and O3 (∆O3/∆CO=0.560±0.016 ppbv/ppbv) was observed, in good agreement with previous observations.
