Opis:: Proposals of creating an agglomeration railway system in Lodz region fi rst emerged during analysis done for projects of modernization of Lodz railway hub. In 2007-2008 were done fi rst feasibility studies for a construction of a new central railway station and an underground tunnel joining together two major stations under the city center. In October 2008 Lodz Voivodeship Marshal Offi ce decided to submit this project for EU funding from the Program Infrastructure and Environment priority 7.3 Transport in metropolis. It received the positive opinion from Ministry of Infrastructure and was entered on a list of projects to be fi nanced. In 2009-2010 were done necessary feasibility studies, and for 2011-2012 were planned the begining of construction works. In December 2012 was signed a contract with a company Stadler for delivery of 20 electric multiple units FLIRT 3.

What distinguishes it is the high quality of services and the care for the passenger – awarded with the highest prizes for the accessibility policy ŁKA follows the social responsibility path playing a significant role for Lodzkie Voivodship both from economic and social point of view.

Opis:: The second half of the twentieth century brought very potent urbani zation processes, linked to an increasing population growth together with an industry growth with declining demand for workers in rural areas. Cities population in the world accounts currently around 54% of the global population (compared with 33% in 1960), in Europe it is 73% and in Poland it is above 60%. Trends are clearly rising (UN data for 2014 [3]). Urbanization is followed by a rapid urban sprawl resulting from fashion – moving to suburbs is a sign of wealth and good social position, together with lack of sufficient investments in affordable housing estates and better life quality in suburbs – larger homes and green areas, lower maintenance costs.

Opis:: Transport is integral to every city, having a crucial impact on its functioning and development. As road infrastructure does not up to keep up to speed with the constantly growing numbers of vehicles on roads, new solutions are required. Fast urban railway systems are a solution that can reduce transport congestion, with environmental protection issues also taken into account. Following these reasons, the decision was made to build the Szczecin Metropolitan Railway (Szczecińska Kolej Metropolitalna, or SKM), consisting of four lines constructed using existing railway infrastructure, within the Szczecin Metropolitan Area (SMA). The construction works on the linear and point assets of the SKM are ongoing and will be concluded in 2022. Therefore, given the large impact of this project on the affected communities, the purpose of the present study was to analyze the expectations of the SMA population concerning the launch of the SKM via a large-scale questionnaire. For the purposes of the study, the following research hypothesis was defined: from the assessment of the affected residents, the introduction of the SKM will considerably improve the travel experience and greatly facilitate transit within the fast railway system’s area of impact. From the analysis of the questionnaire, it could be concluded that the introduction of the SKM will have a positive impact on the improvement of transport within the Szczecin area and shorten travel times significantly.
