Opis:
“Safe voyage from berth to berth”: This is the goal of all e-Navigation strains driven by new technologies, new infrastructures, and new organizational structures on bridge, on shore, as well as in the cloud. To facilitate these efforts suitable engineering and safety/risk assessment methods are required. Understanding maritime transportation as a sociotechnical system allows the usage of system-engineering methods. Simulation-based test beds for verification and validation (V +V) of e-Navigation technologies are important methods to obtain functional safety and reliability. The modeling and simulation toolset HAGGIS is a cosimulation system for the evaluation of e-Navigation concepts and systems. It provides a maritime traffic simulator and a physical world (n-body) simulator and services for finding rare events of failures. HAGGIS is accompanied by the physical test bed LABSKAUS, which implements a reference port and waterways. This paper describes an integrated and seamless approach for developing new e-Navigation technologies starting with virtual simulation-based safety assessment and ending in physical real-world demonstrations. It gives an overview of the actual test bed and introduces requirements, concepts and elements of HAGGIS and LABSKAUS, which are joined in the e-Maritime Integrated Reference Platform (eMIR) test bed.

Opis:
Growing pressure to improve the performance of IC engines has resulted in development of improved control systems. These requirements, combined with the introduction of control algorithms that could only be simulated experimentally were the foundations of control-oriented modelling techniques. The paper presents the assumptions and requirements toward control oriented models and a model of an idling SI engine. Some results of identification and verification tests of the model are presented for the 1.5 GLI engine. On the basis of the engine model, the simulation of sensor failures had been carried out.
Artykuł przedstawia przyjęte założenia i wymagania dotyczące modelowania w aspekcie sterowania wolnych obrotów silnika. Wybrane badania identyfikacji i weryfikacji w postaci testów przeprowadzono dla modelu silnika 1.5 GLI. Na bazie modelu silnika przeprowadzono symulacje typowych uszkodzeń czujników.

Opis:
The properties of a mechanical resonator provide a valuable ability to measure liquid density and viscosity. The viscosity of liquids is of interest to researchers in both industry and medicine. In this paper, a viscosity sensor for liquids is proposed, which is designed based on an electromechanical resonator. In the proposed sensor, a capacitor is used as an electrostatic actuator. The capacitor is also used to monitor the frequency changes of the proposed resonator. The range of displacement of the resonator and capacitor in response to different fluids under test varies according to their viscosity. The design of the proposed sensor and its electrostatic and mechanical simulations are reported in this paper. Also, the effect of viscosity of several different liquids on its performance has been analyzed and presented experimentally using a prototype.

Opis:
Basic gesture sensors can play a significant role as input units in mobile smart devices. However, they have to handle a wide variety of gestures while preserving the advantages of basic sensors. In this paper a user-determined approach to the design of a sparse optical gesture sensor is proposed. The statistical research on a study group of individuals includes the measurement of user-related parameters like the speed of a performed swipe (dynamic gesture) and the morphology of fingers. The obtained results, as well as other a priori requirements for an optical gesture sensor were further used in the design process. Several properties were examined using simulations or experimental verification. It was shown that the designed optical gesture sensor provides accurate localization of fingers, and recognizes a set of static and dynamic hand gestures using a relatively low level of power consumption.

Opis:
Recent trends in manufacturing such as Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing have brought the researchers' attention to the smart intralogistics in production facilities. Automated guided vehicles (AGV), especially mobile robots play a vital role in this development. On the other hand, industrial internet technologies offered new possibilities for the information exchange between devices, data integration platforms and communication interfaces to advance and facilitate the intralogistics for effective material handling and transportation. In order to analyse the feasibility and effectiveness of the mobile robots in the production area, 3D visualization should be combined with simulation, which provides a comprehensive possibility to evaluate and review the potential solution performance and its consistency before implementing practically into the production floor area. This paper describes a conceptual model based on 3D visualization and simulation and experimental study which help to make the decision according to the input data from the factory environment of the movement of mobile robots in production logistics. Moreover, the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are defined to analyse the use-case's process improvement in terms of the time reduction, which leads to increase productivity and cut-down the workers' fatigue.

Opis:
Although simple wireless communication involving nodes built of microcontrollers and radio devices from the low end of the price spectrum is quite popular these days, one seldom hears about serious wireless networks built from such devices. Most of the commercially available nodes for ad hoc networking (somewhat inappropriately called "motes") are in fact quite serious computers with megabytes of RAM and rather extravagant resource demands. We show how one can build practical ad hoc networks using the smallest and cheapest devices vailable today. In our networks, such devices are capable of sustaining swarm-intelligent sophisticated routing while offering enough processing power to cater to complex applications involving distributed sensing and monitoring.

Opis:
Recent advances in technology have enabled the development of low cost, low power and multi functional wireless sensing devices. These devices are networked through setting up a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Sensors that form a WSN are expected to be remotely deployed in large numbers and to self-organize to perform distributed sensing and acting tasks. WSNs are growing rapidly in both size and complexity, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to develop and investigate such large and complex systems. In this paper we provide a brief introduction to WSN applications, i.e., properties, limitations and basic issues related to WSN design and development. We focus on an important aspect of the design: accurate localization of devices that form the network. The paper presents an overview of localization strategies and attempts to classify different techniques. A set of properties by which localization systems are evaluated are examined. We then describe a number of existing localization systems, and discuss the results of performance evaluation of some of them through simulation and experiments using a testbed implementation.

Opis:
This paper presents developed mathematical model of MEMS gyroscope created in Matlab/SIMULINK environment. The model can be very useful for calculating MEMS gyroscope geometrical parameters. These parameters play very significant role, because they have huge and direct impact on device response, performance and further possibilities of application. Results of simulations are presented in this article separately for drive and sense direction. In addition there are also results in frequency domain presented. With all these results we obtain quick overview of behavior this kind of MEMS device and response characteristics.
