Opis:
In this study the effect of sintering process in different temperatures on microstructure and morphological properties of sintered hydroxyapatite (HAp) was investigated. HAp powder was prepared by wet precipitation method from following reagents: Ca(OH)2 + H3PO4 in an alkaline conditions. Thermal analysis (TA), X-Ray diffraction method (XRD), FT-IR spectrometry (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to elaborate the phase composition and properties of sintered HAp samples and raw HAp powder as well. The total and apparent density and total porosity of sintered compacts, shrinkage and weight loss during the sintering were also measured. The results show that there is a difference in sintering behavior of synthetic hydroxyapatites depending on sintering temperature. The main differences refer to the loss of mass, shrinkage, changes in porosity and density of the investigated materials.

Opis:
Sintered ore used as blast furnace burden materials is produced by mixing iron ore, coke, and limestone, then burning the coke and sintering the iron ore with the combustion heat. Among the coke charged, A particle size of 0.25 mm or less has an insignificant effect as a heat source and adhere to the surface of other materials to inhibit the reaction between oxygen and raw materials, thereby decreasing the quality of sintered ore. Therefore, to increase combustion efficiency, it is necessary to reduce the ratio of coke breeze in the charged coke. In this study, theoretical calculation, experiment and simulation were conducted to investigate the possibility of size classification by drag force in the process of dropping coke after being transported through a belt conveyor. The height of belt conveyor was at 1m, and velocity of the belt was 1.5, 2.3, and 2.6 m/s, which were considered as experimental variables. After falling, the distribution of coke particle size according to the horizontal travel distance was confirmed, and a fall trajectory prediction formula model was created through the drag model of polydisperse system and compared with the experimental and analysis results.

Opis:
In China, the sintering process annually emitted around 1.5 million t SO2, representing 70% of SO2 produced from the iron and steel industry. Lime based sorbent was modified with municipal sewage sludge (MSS) and the influence of the modification on the desulfurization efficiency was investigated in a laboratory-scale novel integrated desulfurization (NID) reactor. The properties of modified sorbent were characterized by the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyzer and X-ray fluorescence (XRD) analyzer. BET surface area was increased from 17.48 to 46.68 m2g–1. when the MSS/lime ratio increased from 0 to 0.08. Ca4Al8Si8O32, Ca1.5SiO3.5, Na2Si2O5 and CaSiO3 found in the modified lime benefited for the increase of the BET surface area and pore volume. The effects of sewage sludge/CaO weight ratio, calcination temperature and hydration time on the desulfurization efficiency were also studied. SO2 removal efficiency was increased from 88.7% to 97.3% after using the lime modified with sewage sludge.

Opis:
In this work, vacuum hot pressed Ni-Mn-Sn-In Heusler alloys with different concentration of In (0, 2 and 4 at.%), were investigated. The magneto-structural behaviour and microstructure dependencies on chemical composition and on heat treatment were examined. It was found that the martensite start transformation temperature increases with growing In content and to a lesser extent with increasing temperature of heat treatment. The high energy X-ray synchrotron radiation results, demonstrated that both chemical composition as well as temperature of heat treatment slightly modified the crystal structures of the studied alloys. Microstructural investigation performed by transmission electron microscopy confirmed chemical composition and crystal structure changes in the alloys.

Opis:
Red mud (RM), the by-product generated during the alumina extraction process, is considered a valuable secondary raw material, since iron (20–54%) represents its major constituent. Accordingly, the suitability of recycling this RM in the sintering process of Egyptian iron ore was studied. The effect of adding different amounts of RM to the sinter charge mixture (0–10 wt.%) on the sintering process performance as well as the chemical, physical and mechanical properties of the produced sinter was investigated. The results revealed that increasing the amount of red mud in the sinter charge mixture leads to a high improvement in the strength of the produced sinter till reaching a maximum at 7% addition, which deteriorates thereafter. Meanwhile, owing to the fine nature of the red mud, increasing its contents in the sinter charge mixture leads to reduced speed of the sintering process, which consequently affects the productivity at the blast furnace yard. The sinter produced with the addition of 3% red mud shows the highest reducibility. These results indicate the suitability of recycling RM in the Egyptian iron ore sintering process with an amount not higher than 3 wt.% of the total sinter mixture charge.

Opis:
The work deals with examination of the influence of the ratio between iron ore concentrate and iron ore on quality of produced iron ore sinter. One of the possibilities to increase iron content in sinter is the modification of raw materials ratio, when iron ore materials are added into sintering mixture. If the ratio is in favor of iron ore sinter, iron content in resulting sintering mixture will be lower. If the ratio is in favor of iron ore concentrate and recycled materials, which is more finegrained, a proportion of a fraction under 0.5 mm will increase, charge permeability property will be reduced, sintering band performance will decrease and an occurrence of solid particulate matter in product of sintering process will rise. The sintering mixture permeability can be optimized by increase of fuel content in charge or increase of sinter charge moisture. A change in ratio between concentrate and iron ore has been experimentally studied. An influence of sintering mixture grain size composition, a charge grains shape on quality and phase composition on quality of the produced iron sinter has been studied.
Przewiewność mieszanki spiekalniczej można optymalizować poprzez zwiększenie zawartości paliwa we wsadzie albo poprzez zwiększenie wilgotności. Przeprowadzono eksperymentalną kontrolę zmiany proporcji między koncentratem a rudą żelaza. Zbadano wpływ składu granulometrycznego mieszanki aglomeratu oraz kształtu ziaren wsadu na jakość i skład fazowy wyprodukowanego spieku.

Opis:
The paper presents the effect of sintering conditions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of low-carbon Mn-Cr-Mo PM steels. It was proved there is no effect of tempering temperature on the properties of Astaloy CrL-base steels, sintered at 1250°C in 5%H2-95%N2 mixture as compared with the properties of those sintered at 1120°C. The properties of Astaloy CrM-based steels, sintered at 1250°C in air were comparable or higher to Astaloy CrL-based steels. The addition of lump of ferromanganese was not sufficient for metal oxides reduction. The structure investigation confirmed the earlier observations that Mn-Cr-Mo PM steels have predominantly martensitic or martensitic/bainitic microstructure.

Opis:
Purpose: A novel technique of very low-temperature sintering named the cold sintering process is used to produce Highly dense hydroxyapatite-polyetheretherketone (HA-PEEK) nanocomposites. The polymers and ceramics are sintered at different temperatures; therefore, it is difficult to create ceramic matrix composites using traditional methods because the high temperatures might damage the polymers. It is hard to concurrently treat polymeric materials at high temperatures because HA often sinters at temperatures exceeding 1000°C. So, the study aimed to use a novel low-temperature sintering named Cold Sintering Process (CSP) with a Ts/ Tm ratio greater than 0.2 to alleviate this issue. This method could offer a production path with quick densification and less energy costs to increase throughput. Design/methodology/approach: In the current work, two different routes are used: The direct mixing and dissolution methods were used for powder preparation to fabricate a unique ceramic matrix composite. The study aimed to determine whether the preparation method could produce two continuous phases for better densification. The sintering temperature, pressure, holding time, and PEEK content were selected as the production parameters. The samples are characterised using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), an X-ray diffractogram (XRD), and a transition electron microscope (TEM). Also, physical and mechanical property measurements were detected, including density, water contact angle, hardness, and diametral tensile strength (DTS). Findings: It can be observed that a high densification compact (relative density 99.3%) can be observed by using the dissolution method HA-PEEK composites, which can be produced via the cold sintering process. The dissolution method can produce two continuous phases compared with the direct mixing method. All samples exhibit excellent hydrophilicity, which makes them good candidates for biomedical applications. Research limitations/implications: The biggest implication of the cold sintering method is the difficulty of making large-sized and complex-shaped samples. Practical implications: The dissolution method can produce two continuous phases compared with the direct mixing method. All samples exhibit excellent hydrophilicity, which makes them good candidates for biomedical applications. Originality/value: A novel technique was used for the first time to solve the problem of producing ceramic matrix composites with polymer as the dispersion phase.

Opis:
Microwave sintering process was employed to agglomerate ferromanganese alloy powders. The effects of sintering temperature, holding time and particle size composition on the properties and microstructure of sintering products were investigated. The results was shown that increasing sintering temperature or holding time appropriately is beneficial to increase the compressive strength and volume density. SEM and EDAX analysis shows that the liquid phase formed below the melting point in the sintering process, which leads to densification. XRD patterns indicate that the main reaction during microwave sintering is the decarbonization and carburization of iron carbide phase. The experiment demonstrate that the optimum microwave sintering process condition is 1150°C, 10 min and 50% content of the powders with the size of –75 μm.
