Opis:: The study is focused on the perception of the French spelling reform of 1990 by Polish students. The aim is to ascertain to what extent Polish students are familiar with the most recent spelling changes, which will also allow us to see if the new orthography is taught in the Polish cultural context. For this purpose, a linguistic survey among the students at the departments of Romance studies in Poland was conducted. The respondents were asked to write a dictation containing selected expressions which have had two possible spellings since 1990. The presentation of the obtained results is an integral part of this paper.

Opis:: This study explores the presence of community interpreters in lifelong learning contexts where adult learners engage in international education. It aims to uncover how adult learners perceive interpreters’ roles in educational settings through an online questionnaire. The research identifies interpreter roles, using Tryuk’s (2004) framework for community interpretation. It finds similarities between educational and community interpretation settings. Participants emphasize interpreters’ vital role in facilitating international education, ensuring accessibility, and reducing language-related stress. However, some note that interpreters can unintentionally introduce stress, especially without professional competence. Overall, this study provides pilot insights into adult learners’ perceptions of interpreters in educational contexts, revealing the complex dynamics of interpretation in international education.

Opis:: In language didactics, perception holds an important place. It is usually explored in terms of individual learner differences, or in relation to beliefs and expectations of the participants of the learning process towards its different components. In this article, the author aims at exploring the ideas that French learners have about teaching of perception vocabulary, and its efficiency and necessity, by means of an open-ended questionnaire.
En didactique des langues, la perception tient une place importante. Elle est d'habitude explorée du point de vue des différences individuelles entre les apprenants, ou sous l'aspect des croyances ou attentes des participants du processus didactique face à ses différentes composantes. Dans cet article, l'auteur se propose d'explorer la vision que les apprenants du français ont de l'enseignement du vocabulaire de la perception, de son efficacité et de sa nécessité, à l'aide d'une enquête à questions ouvertes.

Opis:: In this paper, I analyse the noun forms derived from the prototypical verbs of visual perception, see and look. The descriptors used to process verbal polysemy must prepare the correspondence between verb classes and noun classes. This involves indicating whether perception verbs have nouns as associated forms. I also show that if the predicates and arguments are fundamental for the interpretation of the sentence, the actualizers are fundamental for its grammaticalization. The actualization will condition the reading of the nominal predicate. I show how this actualization will allow us to elaborate classes of predicates and thus to renew the approaches of polysemy.

Opis:: This article is the second in a series devoted to the study of the motif of time in the literary and photographic works of Claude Simon, a Nobel Prize-winning author (1985). It proposes to examine the temporal dimension of his album Photographies, 1937–1970, published in 1992. The methodological approach that we have chosen for this article will draw on the epistemology of Henri Bergson, the phenomenology of Gaston Bachelard, the “new criticism” of Roland Barthes, as well as on more recent photographic analyses, such as those of Marta Caraion or Arnaud Claass, while also drawing on the contributions of image theorists, like Georges Didi-Huberman. The photographs allow us not only to see a petrified moment, but also to visualize the passage of time between two moments captured on film and juxtaposed in the album to form a diptych – Simon’s favorite composition.

Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, że w powieści Zoli, szczegół nie dewaluuje się, ale wręcz przeciwnie, staje się ważnym elementem konstruowania siatki znaczeń oraz kontrapunktem wizualno-rytmicznym. Zastosowanie zmiennej skali percepcji do portretowania ciała odrealnia obserwowane szczegóły i, ryzykownie, dla poetyki realizmu, przesuwa granice świata realnego ku niewidzialnemu. Ewokowany przez Zolę chromatyczny aspekt detali fizjonomii bohaterek (znamiona), świadczy o świadomym zamyśle konstrukcyjnym pisarza, wpisującego figuratywność w misterną konstelację znaczeń funkcjonujących zarówno w ramach cyklu Les Rougon-Macquart, jak także rezonujących z ikonicznym kontekstem epoki (G. Courbet Pogrzeb w Ornans). Détail, signe, tache: La représentation du corps dans le roman d’Émile Zola La littérature réaliste du XIXe siècle, qui s’évertue à produire une illusion fidèle de la réalité, se heurte aux limites de la mimésis. Le détail, ce fétiche réaliste, à cause de son omniprésence qui épuise le signifié, devient un outil paradoxal, corroborant les assises de l’école réaliste. Pourtant, le détail garde toute sa fragile pertinence dans le roman zolien, contribuant à créer des réseaux sémantiques, visuels et rythmiques. Les signes cutanés qui tachent de noir les visages de personnages féminins, source d’ambiguïtés signifiantes, ne sont des détails ni futiles ni inutiles, mais des unités de sens pluriels (noir/néant/abîme) qui transcendent le cadre du système romanesque, afin de mettre en résonance leur « ardeur sombre » avec le contexte iconique de l`époque (Courbet, L’enterrement à Ornans).
Realistic literature of the nineteenth century, striving to create the most faithful illusion of reality, comes to the limits of mimesis. The detail, which was supposed to build and give credibility to l’effet de réel, because of the excess and grotesqueness of use leading to signifié deterioration, becomes a paradoxical tool, because it undermines the foundation of the aesthetic category of realism. The aim of the article is to show that in Zola's novel, the detail does not devaluate, but on the contrary, it becomes an important element in constructing a network of meanings and a visual and rhythmic counterpoint. The use of the variable scale of perception for portraying the body detracts from the observed details and in a risky manner, for the poetics of realism, pushes the boundaries of the real world towards the invisible. The chromatic aspect of detail of the heroine’s physiognomy (signs) evidenced by Zola, testifies to the writer's intentionally constructing figurativeness into an elaborate constellation of meanings functioning both within the Les Rougon-Macquart cycle and resonating with the iconic context of the era (Courbet's painting Burial in Ornans).

Opis:: Starting from a number of specific case studies, we propose to illustrate some recent approaches in contrastive linguistics involving French. These studies concern the verb on the one hand, the adverb on the other. The analysis is corpus-based and deals with the pair French/English. Concerning the verbs, we focus on the visual perception verbs and the link between perception and cognition through the verbal complement structure. Our contribution will stress the importanceof the notion of construction and the lexical specificities of each language under study. As to the adverbs, we will focus on the evolution of adverbs of epistemic modality towards discursive and pragmatic markers (actually vs. actuellement and in fact vs. en fait, de fait and au fait). The phenomena in question imply various processes of grammatization and pragmaticalization.
A partir de quelques études de cas, nous nous proposons d’illustrer certaines approches récentes en linguistique contrastive impliquant le français. Ces études concernent d’une part le verbe, d’autre part l’adverbe. L’analyse est basée sur une vaste étude de corpus et porte sur la paire français/anglais.En ce qui concerne le verbe, nous nous centrons sur les verbes de perception visuelle et le lien entre perception et cognition par le biais de la structure complétive. Notre contribution met en relief l’importance de la notion de construction et les spécificités lexicales de chaque langue considérée. Pour les adverbes, notre attention portera sur l’évolution des adverbes de modalité épistémique vers des marqueurs discursifs (actually vs. actuellement, in fact vs. en fait, de fait et au fait). Les phénomènes dont il est question impliquent des processus de grammaticalisation et de pragmaticalisation diversifiés.
W niniejszym artykule, odwołując się do analiz kilku wybranych zjawisk językowych, przedstawiono niektóre metody badawcze wykorzystywane w ostatnich latach w językoznawstwie kontrastywnym.Przywołane analizy dotyczą opisu funkcjonowania czasownika i przysłówka. Opierają się one na badaniach korpusowych i koncentrują na porównaniu języka francuskiego z językiem angielskim. Jeśli chodzi o czasowniki, skupiono się na tych, które odnoszą się do percepcji wzrokowej oraz na związku między percepcją a poznaniem wyrażonym za pomocą zdania dopełnieniowego. Pozwala to na uwypuklenie roli konstrukcji gramatycznej i specyfiki leksykalnej każdego rozważanego języka. W przypadku przysłówków skupiono się na ewolucji ich funkcji od modalności epistemicznej do znaczników dyskursywnych (actually vs. actuellement, in fact vs. en fait, de fait et au fait). Zjawiska, o których mowa, implikują różne procesy gramatykalizacji i pragmatykalizacji.

Opis:: In French, there exists a kind of infinitive subordinate clause (ICP) introduced by a perception verb like voir, regarder, entendre, écouter and sentir. These structures, composed of a noun phrase and an infinitive verb, do not exist in Polish. This anisomorphism implies difficulties of translation and bilingual dictionaries are one of the potential sources of knowledge about the ways of translating the ICP structures into Polish. We analysed the articles of the five French perception verbs from several contemporary French-Polish dictionaries in order to verify how their authors deal with the lexicographic treatment of the ICP. The general conclusion is that the investigated structure is usually not given in all five perception verb entries of the same dictionary, and the choice of these entries seems to be random. What is more, in most of them, we only found set expressions containing the ICP clause and not free phrases. Frequently, the latter simply appear among examples of the use of the verb headword. Concerning the Polish equivalents, their choice is random too and it happens that the most frequent of them, the jak P (“as P”) structure, is not given. Thus, the microstructure of the analysed entries needs to be improved.
