Opis:: Spanish is well-known for its consonant reduction processes across all dialects. At the same time, its vowel inventory is not particularly rich, with five evenly distributed, stable vowel categories that tend not to change their qualities regardless of stress and rhythm. At the same time, several Spanish varieties show vowel reduction, but crucially without accompanying advancement in terms of consonantal weakening. Based on this evidence it is proposed that the two types of reduction are correlated to the extent that one excludes the other. Given the extraordinary stability of the Spanish vowels in the vast majority of the dialects, various cues to stress and reduction were investigated, followed by a series of empirical studies in the form of perception experiments. These studies are based on the assumption that changes in Spanish stress and vowel quality should inhibit comprehension of native categories (sounds, words and prosodic elements). The research conducted in order to test this hypothesis has shown that this is indeed the case. What is more, an indication of a potential boundary between native segments with important implications for speech signal perception has been discovered.

Opis:: There are different formal structures which requests can be made with depending on the register used and the degree of courtesy. During the teaching process, these structures are introduced according to their recursiveness and difficulty, and not necessarily due to their courtesy. This can cause mismatches between the perception of requests in L2 and in L1. In this paper we intend to analyze if this is really the case, or if there are no differences in the perception of these structures in L1 and L2.

Mural-based project La Chana Open Gallery perpetuates spatial conflicts in La Chana neighbourhood of Granada

Opis:: The La Chana Open Gallery mural project aims to attract tourists to the La Chana neighborhood of Granada. In my research, I analyzed the process of touristification that is taking place through this project. The research gathered different opinions on the project among urban agents, i.e., organizers, artists, and residents. They differ substantially in their understanding of mural art in the urban space of La Chana, ranging from acceptance to total rejection. This leads to the conclusion that continuing the project in its current form may perpetuate existing local conflicts. The article proposes measures to increase integration and reduce misunderstandings between these groups of urban actors. My research was carried out during an Erasmus student exchange between January and June 2022. It would be worthwhile to continue the research, as one of the world's largest street art events, Meeting of Styles, was held in La Chana in 2023.
El proyecto mural La Chana Open Gallery tiene como objetivo atraer turistas al barrio granadino de La Chana. En mi investigación analicé el proceso de turistificación que se lleva a cabo a través de este proyecto. Fruto de la búsqueda se han recogido diferentes opiniones sobre el proyecto entre los agentes urbanos, es decir, los organizadores, los artistas y los residentes. Difieren sustancialmente a la hora de entender el arte mural en el espacio urbano de La Chana desde la aceptación hasta su negación total. Esto lleva a la conclusión de que la continuación del proyecto en su forma actual puede perpetuar los conflictos locales ante existentes. El artículo propone medidas para aumentar la integración y disminuir los malentendidos entre estos grupos de agentes urbanos. Mi investigación se llevó a cabo durante un intercambio de estudiantes Erasmus entre enero y junio de 2022. Merecería la pena continuar la investigación, ya que en 2023 se celebró en La Chana uno de los mayores eventos del mundo del arte callejero, Meeting of Styles.

Opis:: El artículo analiza las relaciones entre las autopercepciones de clase y las identificaciones políticas en Barrio Operario, un vecindario ferroviario situado en el municipio de San Isidro, sector norte del conurbano de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Siguiendo una estrategia metodológica interdisciplinaria nos detendremos en tres periodos: su origen y organización ligados a la “estrategia justicialista” de desarrollo (1945-1955); su paulatino pero sostenido devenir como “villa miseria”, asociado fundamentalmente a la “estrategia aperturista” (1976-2002); y, finalmente, su urbanización desde 2003, en el marco de la “sociedad posneoliberal”. Destinaremos un acápite a cada uno de ellos, antecedidos por una reseña de las contribuciones que, desde los abordajes sociológicos, históricos y etnográficos permitieron comprender las configuraciones de clase y sus identificaciones políticas.
The article analyzes the relationships between self-perceptions of class and political identifications in Barrio Operario, a railway district located in the municipality of San Isidro, in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires (Argentina). Following an interdisciplinary methodological framework, we will dwell on three periods: the neighborhood origin and organization linked to the “Justicialist strategy” of development (1945-1955); its gradual but sustained evolution as a “slum”, fundamentally associated with Argentina’s “opening strategy” (1976-2002) and, finally, its urbanization since 2003, within the framework of the “post-neoliberal society”. We will allocate a section to each one of them, preceded by a review of the contributions that, from the sociological, historical, and ethnographic approaches, allowed us to understand the class configurations and their political identifications.
