In recent years, dynamic development of electric drives in automotive applications has taken place. This has chiefly been driven by ecological considerations, in particular pollutant and noise emissions and the depletion of the natural resources necessary for the production of liquid and gaseous fuels. For the energy characteristics of electric automotive vehicles to be assessed, the energy consumption by such vehicles must be tested in conditions corresponding to the actual operation conditions. In this paper, formal description of energy and economic characteristics of electric automotive vehicles has been proposed. The notions of efficiency of vehicle drive, efficiency of battery charging, efficiency of braking energy recuperation, total efficiency, and distance energy consumption by vehicles without and with braking energy recuperation have been introduced. Results of testing a Zilent Courant electric passenger car in conditions simulating the urban operation of such a vehicle have been presented. The Zilent Courant car has no braking energy recuperation system. The tests were carried out on a chassis dynamometer according to the procedures defined as UDC (Urban Driving Cycle), FTP 75 (Federal Transient Procedure), and Stop-and-Go test procedure intended to simulate the street jam traffic type. The average distance energy consumption and total vehicle efficiency was determined in the tests. The distance energy consumption was also tested in selected dynamic conditions of vehicle operation: the average values of distance energy consumption at positive and negative vehicle acceleration were determined.

Opis:
Artykuł podejmuje kwestię relacji łączącej sferę społeczną (miejsce zajmowane w strukturze społecznej) z konfiguracjami kulturowymi w postaci gustów, praktyk i orientacji konsumpcyjnych.

Opis:
Introduction. The aim of the research was to find the answers to the questions of: which health-related behaviors are displayed by martial arts athletes, especially by champions, and what relationships there are between their health-related behaviors and their perception of health-threatening factors. Material and methods. The study (between 2009 and 2011)involved 134 athletes practicing martial arts. The diagnostic survey method was employed, with the use of the questionnaire technique. In the statistical examination of the results the trait frequency, the χ 2 independence test, and the multiple correspondence analysis were employed. Results. Most athletes did not smoke (83.6%). The athletes practicing taekwondo declared consumption of alcoholic beverages (85.7%), while those practicing wrestling were most often non-drinkers (87.0%) (p=0.0000). Athletes with the highest sporting level (champions) mostly did not smoke (93.3%) and abstained from drinking alcoholic beverages (59.1%). It was observed that those who regularly smoked more often failed to perceive tobacco consumption as a health risk (92.3%) (p=0.0000). Athletes who frequently drank alcoholic beverages did not see this behavior as dangerous to their health (41.7%) (p=0.0000). Conclusions. Athletes who display health-oriented behaviors are highly aware of smoking and frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages being health-threatening factors. In reducing the risk factors related to smoking and frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages, martial arts—based on a specific philosophy and lifestyle that requires a reflective attitude towards one’s own conduct and respecting the rules of fair play—should become a means of developing health-oriented behaviors among youth.

Opis:
In this paper, we focus on consumption practices reflected on blogs of Polish minimalists. We analyzed 16 top blogs of the minimalists present in the Polish blogosphere. The objective of the minimalists is to consume less and live simple life without the excess of material objects. We studied the instructions of everyday conduct which the minimalists give on their blogs, as well as the meanings they assign to their practices: their personal stories of becoming a minimalist and statements of their values. The authors belong to one generation—their childhood took place in the times of the shortage economy in the 1980s. This influenced the whole trajectory of their lives and their consumer choices. To interpret their practices we use the categories of rationalization of Max Weber and modern hedonism of Colin Campbell. It appears that minimalists strive for reaching certain emotional states, e.g. peace and wellbeing they imagine, in line with the theory of modern hedonism. A path to those emotional states consists of rationalization of all the temporary, impulse-based pleasures and control over emotions involved in consumption.

Opis:
One of the tasks of education in preparing an individual to professional work. However, in the sphere of human’s work, dynamic transformations determined by many factors take place, including the development of consumer civilization, in which being happy is like a “duty”. The article ponders upon the concept that consumer civilization appears attractive owing to its development being based on the assumption that happiness is the ultimate goal one should strive for. Yet, happiness is understood as a kind of pleasure, which means that an individual adopts a hedonistic attitude. The tendency to identify happiness with possessing goods influences the lives of both the individual, along with their attitude towards work, and consequently – the whole society. By glorifying the consumption ethos as the factor behind social development and growing rich, the category of happiness becomes distorted and its correlates – neglected. The authors of the paper have devoted it to the analysis of the so-called happiness formula in the reality of consumer civilization. The aim of the reflections is the postulate for pedagogy to pay close research attention to the relations between an individual and happiness.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to extract and describe recent social initiatives in food consumption and distribution in Poland and indicate their characteristics related to sustainable consumption, sharing economy and collaborative consumption and to indicate the processes, mechanisms and future development options. Food is among areas that seem to adapt to those ideas more easily which means that individual consumers seem to see value in behaving in a more responsible way. In Poland, social awareness is rather limited and responsible behavior happens on a minor scale for the moment, but more international research shows the great potential of sharing economy. Food is being wasted therefore it constitutes a good ground for changing consumption habits. The paper presents four chosen social initiatives in Poland that refer to a sustainable consumption philosophy and collaborative consumption. Those mini case studies are backed by a thorough analysis of relevant literature, theme contents on websites, and results of secondary research studies dedicated to the issues discussed in the paper. Due to the qualitative character of the study, it shall be followed by more quantitative research to allow for more general insights and conclusions.

The purpose of this paper is to develop and test a theoretical model that explains that the impact of consumer perceptions of apparel safety on their consumption behavior is moderated by consumers’ attitude and the price in the relationship studied. A survey questionnaire was developed and conducted first in a pretest by 231 participants to initially identify possible measurement problems. Another 321 potential consumers subsequently filled in the questionnaire on our website, out of which 296 questionnaires were used to verify the validity and reliability by statistical analysis and the structural equation model. The paper identifies a set of apparel safety perception dimensions that do not drive safe consumption practices. It is further seen that price is more likely to moderate the relationship with consumer behaviors than perceptions and attitudes. Therefore, the paper significantly fills the gaps between apparel safety perceptions and apparel safety consumption behavior. The findings of the paper have significant implications for apparel companies who wish to explore the apparel market potential in China.

Opis:
Social interactions are an important aspect of online courses. Yet the models of self-presentation in online courses are still unexplored. This study reports on how university students presented themselves during two remote university-wide lectures, when the participants did not know one another. Two factors were examined: 1. User's profiles. Automatically an email address was given, and the courses, in which the participant was logged. The user provided his/her own photograph and possibly a text. 2. The familiarization forum. Each student placed: the title of post, a text and photographs showing his/her everyday practices. It turned out that the texts, especially the photographs showed the students as consumers. They did not present scientific interests or research.

Opis:
Forest managers conducting sustainable forest management are guided by the principles of sustainable use of natural resources, which involve the need for long and short-term planning in organizational units of the State Forests. Plans often differ from reality by the time individual treatments and cuts are to be performed. For economic reasons, it is important to optimize harvest planning, not only focusing on the volume of timber to be harvested, but also the price differences of individual tree species and sort types of wood. The purpose of this study was to present methods evaluating standing timber and to assess their usefulness in optimizing the harvest volume using linear programming. Stands designated to be cut were evaluated using transaction value methods, i.e. “the stumpage value method” M1, the “consumption value” method M2, as well as the net present value (NPV) method M3. The research material was obtained from the State Forests Information System (SILP) for the Marcule Forest District covering the years 2014-2018. The stand values were determined at the beginning and end of the 10-year planning period. We observed that the stand value (standing timber) differed significantly between method M2 as compared to method M1. The value of stands determined by method M3, on the other hand, decreased as the discount rate increased. In the process of optimizing the selection of stands for felling, economic criteria should also be taken into account and this is a direct measure of obtainable standing timber in terms of the cutting possibility in the given planning period. In stands where one species dominates, a simplified method of determining the value (M1) can be used, whereas in stands with significant species diversity, method M2 provides a significantly more accurate value for the cutting timber. However, if harvest volume optimization using linear programming methods is to take longer time periods into account, e.g. 30 years (three 10-year economic planning periods), the most reasonable method for determining the value of stands is the net present value method M3.
