Sandwich generation - a group of middle-aged people who, due to its central position (status) in the age structure and related age stratification is a generation (generation) that simultaneously takes care of elderly people (mostly their parents) and younger people (mostly your children). This phenomenon is also referred to as "women in the middle" or "caught in the middle". The concept of "sandwich generation" in a narrow sense refers mainly to the traditionally perceived caring roles of women who are middle-aged (middle adulthood) and at the same time on the forefront of old age (before late adulthood). In the feminist approach, the social expectations towards women between 40 and 60 years old are oriented on helping children and young people to get an independent adult life, on the other hand they are oriented towards providing care to the older generation, especially in the case of disability, dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Expectations regarding these care roles are formalized in a smaller one (eg tradition, gender equality, cultural circle, stereotypes) or to a greater extent (eg family policy of the state, personnel policy of enterprises, universality of work-life balance programs) which leads to inequality between women and men (Korzec, 1997).
Generacja sandwicz - grupa osób w wieku średnim, która ze względu na swoją centralną pozycję (status) w strukturze wieku i w związanej z nią stratyfikacji wiekowej stanowi generację (pokolenie), które jednocześnie opiekuje się osobami starszymi (przeważnie swoimi rodzicami) i osobami młodszymi (przeważnie swoimi dziećmi). Zjawisko to określane jest też jako "kobiety w środku" (ang. women in the middle) lub "złapani w środku" (ang. being caught in the middle). Koncepcja "generacji sandwicz" ("pokolenia kanapki") w wąskim ujęciu odnoszona jest przeważnie do tradycyjnie postrzeganych ról opiekuńczych kobiet, które są w wieku środkowym (środkowej dorosłości), a zarazem na przedpolu starości (przed późną dorosłością). W ujęciu feministycznym społeczne oczekiwania wobec kobiet znajdujących się między 40. a 60. rokiem życia są zorientowane z jednej strony na udzielanie pomocy dzieciom i młodzieży w uzyskaniu samodzielnego dorosłego życia, z drugiej zaś są ukierunkowane na udzielanie pomocy pielęgnacyjnej starszemu pokoleniu szczególnie w przypadku niepełnosprawności, otępienia lub choroby Alzheimera. Oczekiwania wobec powyższych ról opiekuńczych są sformalizowane w mniejszym (np. tradycja, równość płci, krąg kulturowy, stereotypy) lub większym stopniu (np. polityka rodzinna państwa, polityka kadrowa przedsiębiorstw, powszechność programów równowagi praca-życie) co prowadzi do nierówności między kobietami i mężczyznami (Korzec, 1997).

This paper explores some of the active e-learning ideas and considers elearning as useful or even main method of learning in the future. On the one hand, this question is not so much technical question as educational; on the other hand, change of technologies is an important element in educational changes. Nowadays, students are different from students of previous years. This is why, educators are faced with the challenge of adapting their teaching styles to accommodate a new generation of learners. Usually, such young people are considered like the Net Generation, Millennials, Generation Y, Digital Natives, Trophy Kids etc; and they do not have the same learning expectations, styles, and needs as former students. This article assists educators in teaching the Net Generation by highlighting their characteristics and providing examples of how to adapt teaching strategies by using different e-learning tools for active learning to foster student interaction in elearning. The difference between active and passive e-learning is observed, and importance of both strategies usage is argued.

This work presents numerical and experimental investigations of contact phenomena and wear processes occurring on the contact surface of linings of a mechanical friction clutch. These problems have already been studied earlier, but only simplified mathematical models have been used and applied. Our work takes into account elasticity and abrasive wear properties of material of friction linings rubbing themselves. A general non-linear differential model of wear and a wear model in the integral form are considered. Besides, we present results describing thermal phenomena (heat generation and its propagation) occurring in the considered system. Many interesting results are obtained, illustrated and discussed. Finally, numerical results are also compared with the experimental data.

The text presents a new concept of SANDWICH GENERATION - referring to the generation of adult family members, who for various reasons must take care of both aging parents and adult children, and often also grandchildren, while engaging in professional work.

The article focuses on the way in which current Czech pupils and students as the representatives of the so-called “tactile generation” use various types of media in formal and informal education and what their teachers think about using media in education. The condition of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst) in the Białowieża Forest is categorized as a crisis. It is believed that due to the cooling in the Holocene, the then-relict species of the forest, silver fir (Abies alba Mill.), disappeared from its ecosystems and then spruce appeared. Today’s climate change presents challenges to our civilization, including to forestry. However, there is no information at all about how this affected the silver fir in the Białowieża Forest. In the Polish part of the forest (subcompartment 498 Сi, Białowieża Forest District), for the first time a comprehensive study has been carried out on the condition of mature fir trees planted by man and on their progeny. The results indicate high forestry-taxation indicators of trees, resistance to the abiotic factor and competitiveness. Their constitution corresponds to local environmental conditions. However, the disproportionately small number of adult natural regeneration of old firs indicated some kind of malfunction in the mechanism of natural generational change.

Contemporary demographic changes in the labour market pose many challenges. One of them is the need to reconcile the needs of employees from different generations. The youngest generation on the labour market – Generation Z – has very specific expectations, which are discussed in the paper. At the same time, the article describes the labour market in a poviat town on the example of Leszno. As it turned out, contrary to popular opinion, despite the low level of unemployment and the difficulty in finding employees in many industries, there is no employee market in Leszno. Employers do not respond to the expectations of job candidates, especially the youngest ones, which in turn leads to their travelling to other, larger cities. In this way Leszno is depopulating. A similar situation occurs in other small poviat towns. The article proposes one solution to this problem, which is one of the research purposes. The second purpose is recognision of Generation Z’s expectations towards their future employers. The outcomes are described in the article.

The change of society, in particular concerning the generation of contemporary parents, imposes new requirements on pre-school education teachers and their competences. In case of teachers, it is not only pedagogical literacy, consisting of general, psychological knowledge, as well as knowledge about the child that are necessary. The skills of activity planning and organisation, organisation of education process, active involvement in the change of pre-school education system are also required. Moreover, the competences of communication and collaboration with parents, the ability to adapt and find necessary access to parents of the contemporary generation, the ability to involve them into the activities of an educational institution, empower parents to become competent partners of teachers are of appropriate significance. All these skills, although within different scopes, are taught and developed by future pre-school education teachers during their university education and internships. The aim of the study is to reveal, according to the opinion of students – future teachers - which pre-school education teacher competences are the most meaningful in order to ensure a successful partnership with parents of the contemporary generation. The applied research methods are as follows: the analysis of content of scientific information resources (to reveal the theoretical context), questions in writing (to collect empirical data) and content analysis (analysis of empirical data). The scope of qualitative research is 18 informants who agreed to participate in the research. They are students – future pre-school education teachers. The study results showed that the informants mostly emphasise the competence of pedagogical literacy that includes knowledge about the child, personal features of teachers helping to promote partnership relations with parents and students of the contemporary generation, professional expertise and values. The following features were accentuated: patience, self-confidence, benevolence in communication with parents of the contemporary generation with different attitudes and expectations. Future teachers did not focus on the competences of education process organisation, i.e. the ability to organise education process based on human resources – the parents. Thus, parents are not sufficiently involved in the education process. They pay little attention to the competence of activity prediction and planning.
