Opis:
The “Construction 2025” is a United Kingdom (UK) Government Strategy introduced in 2013 to improve the construction industry in the United Kingdom by meeting outlined performance targets by 2025. However, with only a few years left to reach the targets, it is unclear how much industry is advancing to meet them. This paper reviews the progress to achieve the Strategy targets. The data collected from 96 UK construction professionals was utilised to assess the key barriers to achieving the UK “Construction 2025” Strategy targets. Results indicate that industry professionals are uncertain about reaching the reduction in overall cost and time targets by 2025. However, they are more positive about reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the trade gap. In terms of the key barriers, the results revealed a reluctance to adopt change, lack of implementation of new technology, fragmentation in the industry, and failure to adopt modern construction methods as the key barriers to the Strategy targets. The research is the first attempt at a comprehensive assessment of the progress and barriers to the UK “Construction 2025” Strategy. The results reinforce the call for government initiatives to transform the industry.

Opis:
"Our world is changing faster than ever before. Urban areas all over the world have been developed rapidly. Unfortunately construction sector has been rejecting most of the technological opportunities while other industries have undergone significant changes over the last years due to some process and product innovations. The sector has still an intractable productivity problem. However, construction is the world’s largest industry in terms of resource (including energy) usage and waste generation. Improving whole-life cycle resource efficiency and environmental impacts are considered the main challenges of the construction industry in the European Union. Such improvement can be reached thanks to digitalization, advancement of computational tools, brand new construction techniques and methods as well as innovative technologies. Incidentally, companies can boost productivity as well. To make cost performance more efficient, planners/designers should explore more construction/design alternatives and - as a result - make more accurate decisions. High complexity of the construction projects reduces a simplicity of setting up a reliable construction model ready to multi-objective optimisation. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is considered as the innovation that allows for the consistent management of information in the construction projects. This tool turns out to be useful in managing the process of building construction in the whole-life cycle perspective. Additionally, people, standards, processes and the technology form the integral parts of BIM. It is inevitable that construction companies would customise BIM gradually and have to refine and attune the method with increasing know-how."

The work was undertaken to investigate the strength of a tourist bus body during rollover on the side or the roof. The investigation of the process of impact against the road surface with simultaneous deformation of body framework will make it possible to assess the safety of bus occupants and the strength of bodies of vehicles of this type. The need to undertake this work arose from the fact that at present, bus bodies do not provide adequate passenger safety in spite of meeting the requirements of current EU regulations.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to present and discuss the concept of Technology Assessment with a special focus on the construction sector and its relation to the notion of sustainability. Technology Assessment is seen in the scientific literature as a powerful strategy of generating the appropriate technologies necessary to achieve sustainable development. It provides information and knowledge on technical systems and their connections with the economic, social, political and environmental implications. Such knowledge is crucial in the evaluation of the existing and new technologies within decision support systems and policy intelligence processes. The paper proposes the principles, stages and methods of Technology Assessment applicable in the process of achieving the sustainability of the construction sector.

Opis:
"Along with advancing technology, there seen a rapid development in heavy construction equipment in transportation sector. As a result of coming to the fore front of concepts in transportation sector such as working capacity, efficiency, time and economical dimension, the increase in variety of heavy construction equipment in sector draws attention. Because of this, the choice of suitable heavy construction equipment in this variety becomes important. With optimum usage level of this heavy construction equipment will contribute to the economy of country in terms of both time and efficiency by providing economical incomes. That is why it is beneficial in transportation sector to make comparison between heavy construction equipment. In this study various heavy construction equipment used in transportation sector were presented and given information about their capacities and their areas of usage."

Opis:
"According to Lupton (2013) any decision that affects the final form or composition of the building is a design decision. Design covers a wide spectrum, from strategic space planning to the smallest level of detail. Conceptual design involves identifying needs or requirements, analysing possible solutions to a properly thought out decision as to which design will be most promising. The next is the detailed design phase which has the mission to reduce the concept in the conceptual phase to a practical scheme design that will show whether a useful end product is likely to emerge. As a result of the detailed design a set of detailed drawings, specifications and other documents have to be produced so that manufacturing and quality targets, together with satisfactory service in the field, can be achieved (Design Council Committee, 1976). The designer’s task is not finished until it has been shown that the product can be manufactured, tested and maintained to cost targets, and that it performs properly at all points in the specified performance. An exact definition of “design” and “designer” has to be done in contract documents meaning the same thing to all the contractual parties. There will not be any room for confusion between parties. Design in this paper mean, “to design is to decide. This will avoid the confusion from “workmanship”, which is taken to be the “manner” in which the work is carried out. Quality in design and construction has to be treated as one. Quality means right first tie, delivery on time and to budget, innovating for the benefit of the client and minimising waste. Design quality is critical for the success of any construction project. There is a significant role for clients in promoting good design. Good design promote value for money (VFM) in terms of total cost, sustainability and environmental concerns. The primary concern of procurement is to determine how the asset (building or civil engineering project) will be obtained. Procurement involves the conversion of an idea or possible requirement for construction by the Client into an expression of demand; the conversion of the expression into a decision and the conversion of the decision into a fully designed and completed project ready for use. Design issues and contractual responsibility for the parties varies in in different procurement routes. This paper aims to give an overview and find out the relation between procurement routes, design and quality parameters in construction projects."

Górecki, J. (2019). Circular Rudiments of Construction Projects in Space. Journal of Current Construction Issues. CIVIL ENGINEERING PRESENT PROBLEMS, INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS - Circular Economy in Construction Sector: 135-144.
Opis:
Extraterrestrial colonization has been a dream for humanity for years. It can now be said that there are some players around the world who invest more and more funds and have announced their goals to start settlements there. For instance, NASA has stated publicly that it intends to approach this purpose in the next 15 years. It is worth to explain that no space colonies have been built so far. In order to prevent commodification of the cosmos from enhancing the interests of the already powerful contemporary institutions, and to minimize the risk of exacerbating the detrimental processes such as economic inequality, and environmental degradation, a general discussion about the adoption of the principles of sustainable development, including Circular Economy as only applicable to any attempts of human colonization in space, should be started. The article is a collection of basic principles related to the implementation of the idea of Circular Economy in construction projects. It is also a guide for future generations and an attempt to answer the question: how to prepare for revolutionary changes like space settlements. In addition, it presents some existing difficulties in implementing the idea of sustainable development on Earth. So if we cannot save our planet today, maybe thanks to Circular Economy, we will be, at least, able to protect the cosmos and that what has remained there tomorrow?
