Development, through R&D work, of the Nazca 4.0 production optimization platform
For a long time, scientific and technical work has been focused on production management, which affects both the correctness of the process and the costs generated. One of the integral elements of the production process management is energy, which has an impact on the organization of work, operation of machines or production. Predicting the energy consumption of smart facilities is crucial for implementing energy-efficient management systems, the area of this problem is a key aspect of smart grids whereby loads must be planned in real time. One of the main tasks of intelligent systems is to optimize the energy demand and costs to maximize energy efficiency of the facility. According to forecasting requirements, the following article presents several approaches to prediction of energy consumption models for production engineering systems. The proposed models were adopted and analyzed in terms of their usability and were trained and validated with the use of real data collected from the electrical installation of some company using the APA IPOE system.

Opis:
Implementing creative engineering, or in other words the progress of science, in forestry practices, requires integration of knowledge from its various branches concerning the impact of human activity on the Earth's ecosystem. In fact, various aspects of development in the forest services are already associated with ecological engineering which practically includes biology, economy, sociology, as well as technical and mechanical construction. Special attention was given to modeling as the most productive method of promoting progress in forest management. In the case of biological engineering in forest ecology for example, various possibilities of applying genetic engineering as a potential future method for increasing productivity as well as the preservation of genetic diversity and protection of the environment are discussed in more detail. Literature recommendations concerning engineering in forestry accessible to the students of Extramural Doctorate Studies at the Forest Research Institute in Sękocin are also enclosed.

Opis:
The intensive intellectual and economic development of the Victorian era and, most of all, increasingly far-reaching contacts between Europe and non-European peoples made understanding and classifying the issues related to ethnic diversity of the world necessary. The emerging science of the West had to face a lack of data, a multitude of speculations, poor methodology and a Christian paradigm which led to a specific way of thinking. The biological realism of Darwin and his efforts to make the human race subject to objective/scientific classification, as well as his omission of ethical considerations, paved the way to the eugenic speculations of Francis Galton. The authority of later researchers, accepting their perspective with the resulting driving moral questions away together with a growing fear of degeneration of civilisation eventually led to the extreme radicalisation of opinions presented in the works of Lothrop Stoddard. A century of xenophobic thought followed, with racial polarisation, and then in national terms, a eugenicist world-view was finally vented technologically and ideologically through the tragedy of the Second World War.

Opis:
Chiral amines and alcohols are synthons of numerous pharmaceutically-relevant compounds. The previously developed enzymatic kinetic resolution approaches utilize a chiral racemic molecule and achiral acyl donor (or acyl acceptor). Thus, only one enantiodivergent step of the catalytic cycle is engaged, which does not fully exploit the enzyme’s abilities. The first carbonate-mediated example of simultaneous double chemoselective kinetic resolution of chiral amines and alcohols is described. Herein, we established a biocatalytic approach towards four optically-pure compounds (>99% ee, Enantioselectivity: E > 200) via double enzymatic kinetic resolution, engaging chiral organic carbonates as acyl donors. High enantioselectivity was ensured by extraordinary chemoselectivity in lipase-catalyzed formation of unsymmetrical organic carbonates and engaged in a process applicable for the synthesis of enantiopure organic precursors of valuable compounds. This study focused not only on preparative synthesis, but additionally the catalytic mechanism was discussed and the clear impact of this rarely observed carbonate-derived acyl enzyme was shown. The presented protocol is characterized by atom efficiency, acyl donor sustainability, easy acyl group removal, mild reaction conditions, and biocatalyst recyclability, which significantly decreases the cost of the reported process.

Opis:
Rapid technological development in recent years has contributed to numerous changes in many areas of life, including education and communication. Establishing interdisciplinary collaboration brings many benefits, it is, however, often associated with numerous problems and inconveniences, as well as the need for constant improvement, lifelong learning, professional development (CPD) and finding an effective way of information transfer. Living in a constant rush makes the logical order of information transfer become a key aspect, as more and more operations are being done chaotically, using multiple online tools. Although collaboration happens to be complicated even for colleagues specializing in different aspects of the same profession, establishing cooperation between specific groups of interdisciplinary specialists, such as engineers and physicians, has a significant impact on modern diagnostics and medical treatment development. Based on some selected case studies investigated at Gdańsk University of Technology and Medical University of Gdańsk, supported by an overview of available education and collaboration tools, a solution based on the Moodle LMS platform has been proposed, implemented, and analyzed.

Opis:
Surface/interface engineering of methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3) single crystals (SCs) is crucial for carrier generation/recombination, separation, and transportation, thereby enabling superior optoelectronics. Herein, a surface-engineered crystallization technique is presented in which a thin polycrystalline MAPbBr3 layer is in situ grown on the surface of bulk mm-sized MAPbBr3 SCs. The growth direction and the atomic distribution of both the polycrystalline surface layer and the single crystalline core have been analyzed by damage-free atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The polycrystalline nature of the crystals gives rise to bright green emission under UV light. Scanning probe microscopy results show that the current at the emissive MAPbBr3 film/MAPbBr3 SC surface is five times higher than that at a non-emissive surface when illuminated. Lateral photodetectors based on MAPbBr3 film/MAPbBr3 SCs can achieve excellent detectivities (≈1013 Jones) and high photoresponsivities (≈20 A W−1). Furthermore, a semiconductor-based fluorescence quick response (FQR) code is patterned on the same bright green-emitting surface of the MAPbBr3 film/MAPbBr3 SC using a picosecond laser pulse, with a scalability of 3 × 3 mm2. An FQR code integrated with a photodetector may serve as a potential double security tag in bank cards, passports, door security, etc.

Opis:
The rapid transformation of the socioeconomic, political, and technological context predetermines changes in the expectations for higher education institutions that face numerous profound challenges. In order to survive and develop under changing conditions, universities need to drastically rethink their development strategies. The paper substantiates the effectiveness of using foresight for these purposes, which is confirmed by the experience of the project on the development of scenarios for the Faculty of Engineering Management (FEM) of Bialystok Technical University (Poland) for the period up to 2035. This enquiry has resulted in compiling four alternative visions for FEM. By analyzing them one can gain valuable knowledge on both preferable and less-favored alternatives, which on the one hand suggest which actions may lead to their realization, but on the other, indicate specific actions that may lead to the abandonment of undesirable paths in favor of the most conducive vision.

Opis:
Developing efficient wide-bandgap perovskites is critical to exploit the benefits of a multi-absorber solar cell and engineering commercially attractive tandem solar cells. Here, a robust, additive-free, methylammonium-free triple halide composition for the fabrication of close-to-ideal wide-bandgap perovskites (1.64 eV) is reported. The introduction of low percentages of chloride into the perovskite layer avoided photoinduced halide segregation and lead to an evident improvement in the crystallization process, reaching enhanced open-circuit voltages as high as 1.23 V. A perovskite of these characteristics is introduced for the first time in a p-i-n single-junction configuration using a self-assembled monolayer, with devices achieving photoconversion efficiencies of up to 22.6% with ultra-high stability, retaining ≈80% of their initial efficiency after >1000 h of continuous operation unencapsulated in a nitrogen atmosphere at 85 °C. This result paves the way toward highly efficient multi-junction tandem solar cells, bringing perovskite technology closer to commercialization.
