    Opis:
    Studies on landscape integrity and fragmentation are undertaken by researchers representing various disciplines and research schools, which results in ambiguity and discrepancies in interpretation. This article aims to organize the terminology related to the fragmentation of greenspaces in urban areas. This is done by reviewing the Polish and international literature from the last decade (2014–2024) and investigating differences of how the term of fragmentation is interpreted. The results reveal significant geographical disparities and terminological differences, particularly with regard to the perception of fragmentation as a spatial pattern or a spatial process. The second part of the article presents a proposition of a conceptual model in which the term “greenspace integrity” is proposed as a concept opposed to the spatial pattern of fragmentation. This proposal organizes the relationships between the opposing processes of disintegration and consolidation, while combining the concepts of compactness and spatial connectivity.
    Badania nad integralnością krajobrazu oraz fragmentacją są podejmowane przez badaczy reprezentujących różne dyscypliny i szkoły badawcze, co prowadzi do niejasności i rozbieżności w interpretacji. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest uporządkowanie terminologii związanej z fragmentacją terenów zieleni na obszarach miejskich. Jest to osiągnięte poprzez przegląd polskiej i międzynarodowej literatury z ostatniej dekady (2014–2024) i prześledzenie różnic jak pojęcie fragmentacji jest interpretowane. Wyniki ujawniają znaczące rozbieżności geograficzne i różnice terminologiczne, szczególnie jeśli chodzi o postrzeganie fragmentacji jako procesu lub wzorca przestrzennego. Druga część artykułu prezentuje propozycję modelu konceptualnego, w którym pojęcie “integralność terenów zieleni” jest zaproponowane jako koncept przeciwny do wzorca przestrzennego fragmentacji. Ta propozycja organizuje związki pomiędzy przeciwstawnymi procesami dezintegracji i konsolidacji, włączając w to pojęcia zwartości i łączności przestrzennej.

    Opis:
    In this article, I present and critically analyze the main ideas of the Nigerian thinker, Ifeanyi A. Menkiti, on the future of the multi-ethnic state in Africa. Menkiti appears to consider that the basic condition for the successful coexistence of the various groups occupying the states of Africa is for relations between them to rest on just principles. Justice should involve the fair and equitable division amongst peoples of the burdens and benefits of living in a common state. To realize this ideal, he proposes the creation in Africa of morally neutral, managerial states. He bases his plan in part on the ideas of John Rawls. Close analysis of Menkiti’s views shows that his vision of the minimalist state is only a temporary solution, which is to lead to the peaceful dismemberment of the current post-colonial model of multi-ethnic states functioning within the old colonial borders. The basic value of Menkiti’s thought rests in his reversal of the usual perspective on African states, as he considers that maintaining territorial integrity or achieving unity should no longer be considered a paramount necessity.
