Opis:
The achievement of the peak carbon target is a complex and comprehensive project that involves various aspects such as the economy, society, and ecological environment. At the same time as reaching the carbon peak, how to balance economic and social development has become an important issue. This study uses the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) model to predict China’s carbon peaking situation. Three key parameters, namely carbon peaking, economy, and society, are selected, and relevant decision variables are established. A multi-objective planning model is developed to facilitate the coordinated development of carbon peaking, economy, and society, which is solved using a sequential algorithm. The results show that: China’s carbon emissions were 6928.905 million t in 2020 and are expected to reach the carbon peak in 2030. At the peak, the per capita gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to be 16 281.95 $, corresponding to a per capita CO2 emission of 9.66 t. During China’s carbon peak, the GDP is projected to be 23 249.58 billion $, with an arable land area of 121 747 510 ha and sulfur dioxide emissions of 180.64 million t, meeting the expected target values. However, certain indicators such as the ratio of three industries, energy consumption, rural residents’ per capita disposable income, and water consumption fall short of expected. Based on these findings, relevant countermeasures have been proposed for the realization path and key breakthroughs for China’s carbon peak.

Opis:
The study aimed to determine the baseline and indicators for the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) and to evaluate the effectiveness of GHG mitigation measures in Thai upstream petrochemical plants. During 2005–2010, the upstream production had an annual demand for energy in the range of 110 000–150 000 TJ, ca. 5–6% of the total Thailand energy consumption. The proportion of energy consumption for producing olefin and aromatic products is 73 and 14%, respectively. The amount of GHG emissions equalled approximately 7–9 Mt CO2 eq. This represents a 3% portion of the total GHG emissions of Thailand, separating into the olefin and aromatic products, around 69 and 18%, respectively. The ratios of GHG emission came from fuel combustion of 59%, steam consumption (28%), electricity consumption (10%) and flare (3%). The carbon intensity of upstream products in the olefins and aromatics’ groups had the range of 1.125–1.309 and 0.518–0.667 t CO2 eq/t, respectively. It was likely that the carbon intensity during the period of 2005–2010 was lowered as the industry sector took measures to improve energy conservation and developed their production processes. The GHG mitigation measures by energy conservation were already implemented including fuel saving (67%), steam saving (23%) and electricity saving (10%).

Opis:
Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) was used to make comparative analysis of projects or heterogeneous measures for prioritization criteria and subcriteria simultaneously in a complex situation. The aim of this paper is to determine the alternatives and the sensitivity of main factors affecting water and energy consumption as well as environmental impact in a recycled paper manufacturing by using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The AHP enables one to consider all the elements of decision process in a model, and to compare criteria and subcriteria of the model to find the best alternative. The AHP technique is applied through specific software package with user-friendly interfaces called Expert Choice. The results indicated that reduction of water consumption is the most important alternative for sustainable development in a recycled paper mill in Iran. Also, good housekeeping is the most sensitive criterion affecting the alternatives. The paper illustrates how the AHP method can help industrial management to overcome the energy usage and environmental impact in the manufacture.

Opis:
The study summarises the energy consumption data obtained from the Slovak wastewater treatment plants. Overall, 51 large WWTPs using mesophilic anaerobic sludge digestion and biogas utilisation (the total capacity of 2.5 mil. p.e.) and 17 small rural WWTPs (the total capacity 15 000 p.e.) were compared in many technological and energy parameters. The average energy consumption in large WWTPs in Slovakia is 0.485 kWh/m3 and 0.915 kWh/m3 in small rural plants. The average energy demand related to BOD5 load represents the value of 2.27 kWh/kg BOD5, in Slovak plants. The specific energy production is relatively low - in average 1.2 kWh el /m3 of produced biogas and 0.1 kWh el /m 3 of treated wastewater, respectively. The average energy autarky in Slovak plants is 25.2%. Some plants have high energy autarky (>65%), despite no external biowastes being dosed to these during operation.
