Strategic myopia : methodological issues of a systematic literature review
Krótkowzroczność strategiczna : metodyczne aspekty systematycznego przeglądu literatury
Autorzy:
Czakon, Wojciech
Klimas, Patrycja
Kawa, Arkadiusz
Opis:
This study outlines three issues typical for the first step in any systematic literature review process: delimitation, selection and abundance. The meaning and consequences of each issue are explained. With the example of a systematic literature review on strategic myopia the process is commented on in detail, and solutions to each of the issues are proposed.

Presence of the author in a philosophical work : from methodology to metaphysics
Obecność autora w dziele filozoficznym : od metodologii do metafizyki
Autorzy:
Miklaszewska, Justyna
Wydawca:
Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego
Opis:
The topic of this article are deliberations on the subject of the presence of the author in a philosophical work, contained in the books of two eminent contemporary American philosophers originating from the trend of analytical philosophy: Thomas Nagel and Robert Nozick. These deliberations, led on the basis of methodology, give an autotheme character to their works, what is more, compel both philosophers to face the problems of traditional metaphysics. In the book Th e View from Nowhere Nagel claims that although the presence of the author constitutes an obstacle to achieving the purpose of the work, which is gaining and presenting objective knowledge of the world, the meaning of human life, and values, the author cannot be removed from the work because this knowledge must be based on individual experience. The solution to this problem is a research method, which consists in oscillating between a subjective perspective - and an objective viewpoint. Similarly to Nagel, also Nozick in his work Th e Examined Life seeks the knowledge of the meaning of human life and a method leading to it. However, in the article Fiction, analyzing the problem of the presence of the author in a philosophical work, Nozick puts an equation mark between philosophy and literature and moves the concept of literary fiction to reality, which leads him to revise the questions which are contemporarily forgotten as well as the problems of modern metaphysics. In this interpretation, both Descartes’ statement ‘I think therefore I am’, as well as the Newtonian argument for the existence of God - appear in a surprisingly new light.

Management : science "in statu nascendi"?
Autorzy:
Sułkowski, Łukasz
Opis:
This paper is the first publication from the series of four articles about cognitive challenges in management science. It is the result of the further discussions and reflections concerning the cognitive problems of management after publication of the books about epistemology of management. The question of identity of management perceived like a social science is important mainly to researchers, but also to reflective managers. The paper is a diagnosis of a current cognitive state with main thesis that management is still science in statu nascendi. Management belongs to the family of the social sciences and it is still in the primal stage of his evolution. First of all, there is a lack of agreement on the one paradigm or even one way of understanding and classifying the paradigms among scholars. Moreover, in consequence of multi-paradigmatic and multi-disciplinary approach, the polymethodological perspective must be applied to management sciences. That means, type of the methodological eclectism that is the third characteristic point of management epistemology. At the end of the chapter the case of the multiparadigmatic, poly-methodological and eclectic is shown in the marketing contemporary discourse.

Looking for correlations vs. telling the story : two ways of thinking methodologically about political polarisation
Autorzy:
Bukowski, Michał
Opis:
In this chapter, I discuss two different ways of dealing methodologically with phenomena such as political polarisation. I present the dominant "positivist" position, which promotes measurement and correlation. I also present the historical-narrative approach using Immanuel Wallerstein’s world-systems theory. These approaches have different theoretical commitments. I try to show that the narrative approach is better here, at least from one point of view. It is free of theoretically unfounded formalisms; it allows us to look at polarisation from a broader but somewhat different perspective. As a consequence, it allows us to make polarisation a less mysterious phenomenon.
