Opis:
The finds of Miocene beavers are not rare at all. Nevertheless, in most localities these rodents are only represented by a few dental elements, so that large collections are only occasionally available to researchers. Hence, the description of sufficiently large samples, such as the recently published description of Steneofiber depereti from Hambach 6C (NW Germany, MN5) by Mörs and Stefen (2010), deserves the greatest attention. After a comprehensive description and comparison of the material, these authors conclude that previous citations of the beaver Chalicomys jaegeri from the MN4 to MN6 (early to middle Miocene) are misidentifications of the genus Steneofiber. Following Stefen (2009), these authors further question the validity of all the known Chalicomys species from the later middle Miocene (MN7+8). We agree with these authors that the occurrence of C. jaegeri in the middle Miocene is doubtful, but we disagree with their arguments for the synonymization of several species. Here we address this point and discuss the taxonomic criteria for distinguishing both genera, further reviewing the taxonomy of the genus Chalicomys at the species level.

Opis:
Iberovaranus Hoffstetter, 1969 was erected as a monotypic genus of varanine varanid lizard on the basis of a single trunk vertebra from the Miocene of Spain. Thanks to the study of the holotype, as well as of a still undescribed cervical vertebra from the same locality, we show that the vertebral morphology of Iberovaranus is contained within the known variability of Varanus. Therefore, Iberovaranus Hoffstetter, 1969 is considered a subjective junior synonym of Varanus Merrem, 1820, and the species Iberovaranus catalaunicus Hoffstetter, 1969 should be considered a nomen dubium.

Opis:
The main objective of this work is the design of a model for the technical, economic and environmental evaluation in the rehabilitation and renovation of buildings versus their demolition. A first analysis is performed on the rehabilitation and renovation of buildings versus their demolition in the historical centre of Seville, Spain. Considering that many European cities have a historical centre that in many cases also represents the most authentic part of the city, this project can be adopted as an assessment tool for many similar case studies. In a first stage, a database for Seville, Spain, has been created using ArcGIS, which identifies those buildings needing restoration. The house of tomorrow maybe the one we already inhabit by transforming it with the renovations necessary in order to make it more safe, secure, energy efficient and comfortable, finally transforming it into a contemporary dwelling, even if they are part of a historical city centre.
