Opis:: Russia’s incursion into Ukraine on 24 February 2022 has forced bordering countries to host refugees fleeing from the conflict. Since the start of the war, approximately 9.75 million refugees, predominately women and children, have crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border. The situation remains challenging for those affected. The article aims to present a legal analysis of the provisions on Polish social assistance provided through family benefits to refugees from Ukraine. Article 26 of the Act on assistance to citizens of Ukraine in connection with the armed conflict on the territory of that state outlines five groups of benefits regulated by separate laws that may be enjoyed by Ukrainian citizens residing in the Republic of Poland, provided their stay is considered legal under Article 2(1) of this law. The criteria for receiving the benefit are twofold. Certain conditions are determined by the Act of 12 March 2022, while other conditions are laid out in special laws that contain provisions for a specific benefit.

Opis:: The article presents a meta-analysis of the social context of benefits achieved by people in a new, yet not well-researched activity in electronic sports. The presented historical background of eSport and the dilemmas of the highly polarised scientific community, in which there are as many supporters as opponents of the recognition of eSport as a sport, have become a basis for describing this phenomenon in the context of the theory of use and gratification. Thus, based on the few eSport studies carried out, the human benefits related to cognitive and social development, identity development and participation in entertainment were determined.

Opis:: The aim of the text is to capture and identify the differences between volunteers and non-volunteers in the scope of the widely understood image of volunteering and the beliefs surrounding it. The data was gathered in three Polish cities and shows that there is a great disparity between young volunteers and non-volunteers. This disparity can be of substantial importance to the future of volunteering in Poland and it conclusively proves that young people are very pragmatic. Volunteers see the sense in sports volunteering via the instrumental benefits that transcend the experience, although they do not question the autotelicy of sports volunteering, especially when it comes to its value as an emotional experience.

Opis:: Objectives Polish Labour Code provides employees with a range of solutions (benefits) supporting them in achieving balance between work and private life. This paper was aimed at indicating availability and the use of legal benefits supporting work-life balance (WLB) among Polish workers of small and medium enterprises. Material and Methods The study sample included 219 respondents, aged 22–64, working in small and medium enterprises and employed on the basis of employment contracts for at least a year. The respondents completed a questionnaire on availability and the use of benefits guaranteed by the Polish Labour Code, referring to their current workplaces. Results Most frequently the studied employees took sick leave because of one’s own illness and leave on demand. In our sample, 45% of the women took maternity leave and 26% of the men took paternity leave. The respondents took educational and parental leave the least frequently. More than half of the respondents (58%) did not return to the same position after leave devoted to childcare, even though they had such a possibility. Conclusions In fact, most of work-life balance benefits guaranteed by law were available to the employees of small and medium enterprises, regardless of their gender. Availability and the use of the majority of benefits were similar among the women and men. Availability of benefits depended on the specificity of industry and a profession, thus, future research on work-life balance policy should control for variables related to the character of work.

Opis:: Immigration is one of the heavily discussed subjects in modern academic and political debate. In recent decades, fiscal effects of international migration remained the centre of interest. The goal of this paper is to review and synthesise the available literature, devoted to the relationship between immigration and welfare systems, in order to present the state of the art in this area and draw conclusions for further research. Despite extensive literature, it is difficult to find an unambiguous answer to the question, whether immigrants are a burden or an asset to the state with redistributive policies. Moreover, some of the assumptions and approaches widely used in presented articles appear too simplistic or even unfounded.

Opis:: The scope of the employer’s obligation to make contributions is determined by the question of whether the employer concluding a civil law contract with a person maintains at the same time an employment relationship (of full‑time nature) with that person, or whether that person is employed under a contract of employment with another employer. The author claims that in the first case the employer is obliged to make old‑age, disability and accident contributions for that person, in respect of both the contract for employment and civil law contract. In contrast, the entity concluding a civil law contract with a person who maintains an employment relationship with another entity, it is not obliged to make such contributions. The same rules apply to the employment of a postgraduate student.

Opis:: A large amount of road accidents recorded in Poland and consequently an increasing number of the death and juries are the justifications of the claim that this problem is a significant threat to public health and social issue of ever greater importance. Therefore compensation of personal injuries caused by road accidents based on compulsory third party liability insurance of motor vehicle owners came into considerable prominence. This paper aims at analysing how compensation agencies are caring out the claiming process of the damages for those directly and indirectly injured in road accidents.

Opis:: Plaster plays an important role in the building industry. Besides an aesthetic function it provides the protection of external walls from weather conditions. In the paper thermo insulating Thermopor plaster was described. Its chemical and physical properties and manner of using were defined. The impact on the environment with the use of LCA technique was examined. Thermopor plaster can fulfil a thermo insulating function. The economic and ecological analysis of applying this plaster in the thermo insulation of the external walls of the building was conducted. The use of Thermopor plaster on external walls brings ecological benefits. The reimbursement of ecological cost related to the use of this plaster appears already after 2 to 5 years, depending on the source of heat used, which results from the decrease of thermal energy consumption for heating the building. For economic reasons, the partial reimbursement of cost is obtained as a result of the reduction of heating cost. Although Thermopor plaster has thermo insulating properties similar to typical insulating materials, such as polystyrene or mineral wool, the economic cost of using the plaster for thermo insulation becomes several times higher.
