Opis:: Andrzej Wierciński (1930–2003) wrote that the period Enlightenment (he did not use the term, however) saw the separation of philosophy and religion as a consequence of the development of empirical sciences, mathematics and logic. The rationalised philosophical world-model was advanced to the rank of an ICS [Ideological Control Subsystem]. Its institutional carriers were bourgeois groups and political parties which caused the first breakdown in the feudal system during the French and American Revolution.

Opis:: The author is convinced, that the first Encyclical of Pope Francis Lumen Fidei (Light of Faith) offers a profound and comprehensive meditation on the role of faith in our live. The Pope writes, that the light of faith comes from God and is able to illuminate all aspects of man’s existence: it proceeds from the past, from the memory of Jesus’ life, but also comes from the future as it opens up vast horizons.In the present article the phenomenon of light and dynamics of faith are analysed from the psychological point of view.

Opis:: Religion is an integral part of the human culture. Depending on philosophical, outlook, theological concepts, there are many of its definitions. The interest of psychology is concentrated on subjective understanding of religion and religiousness. The article analyzes the issues mentioned above from humanistic and existential’s achievements perspective. Distinguishing of religiousness described as an attitude and as a relationship reveals different aspects of its functioning in human personality. A religion`s influence on personality depends on a kind of religiousness and a place, which are given to the human structure. Religiousness provides human`s life with meaning, values, sense of security, identifies with society and plays therapeutic functions. Pointing these functions out shows a positive role that is played by religiousness in every man’s life.

Opis:: Na polu badań psychologicznych obszary religii i stresu były powiązane ze sobą od dawna. Spośród koncepcji wyjaśniających funkcję religii w sytuacjach trudnych najbardziej popularna stała się w ostatnich latach teoria religijnego radzenia sobie (religious coping), rozwijana przez K. I. Pargamenta. Podejście to można scharakteryzować jako poznawcze, zorientowane na proces i pragmatyczne. W artykule przedstawiono aparat pojęciowy teorii, sposób, w jaki omawiana teoria wyjaśnia udział religii w poszczególnych etapach procesu radzenia sobie ze stresem, oraz mechanizmy, przez które ten udział się dokonuje. Przedstawiono również charakterystykę wyróżnionych przez Pargamenta religijnych metod radzenia sobie. Pomimo pewnych braków teoretycznych, model ten, dzięki swej wieloaspektowości, dostarczył podstaw do szerokich i perspektywicznych programów badań. Wprowadził bowiem nowy punkt widzenia na związek religijności ze zdrowiem psychicznym, co stanowiło impuls do ożywienia i zdynamizowania badań w dziedzinie psychologii religii.
In psychological research areas of religion and stress have been interconnected for many years. Among theories explaining the function of religion in stressful situations, the theory of religious coping developed by K. I. Pargament has recently gained considerable popularity. This approach can be characterized as cognitive, process-oriented and pragmatic. This article presents the terminological apparatus of this theory, the explanation the theory gives for the role of religion on particular stages of the process of coping with stress and mechanisms responsible for this role. The religious coping strategies described by Pargament are also characterized. Despite of some theoretical drawbacks, owing to its multi-dimensionality, this theory provided bases for extensive and promising research programmes. It introduced a new point of view on the associations between religiosity and psychic health, which provided an impulse for boosting research in psychology of religion.

Opis:: This article constitutes a critical review of the knowledge and theories regarding ritual and ceremony which have emerged in the social sciences. The impetus for this undertaking is the conviction that the issue of ritual has been paid insufficient attention – particularly in sociology. The text opens with deliberation on the subject of defining ritual and ceremony. Subsequently, the theories of ritual which explain existing ceremonies by looking at the conditions under which these observances arose are examined. This article comprises also ponderings on the place of ritual in sociological theory.

Opis:: The author of this paper focuses his interest on the State-Church relations during the period of the People’s Republic of Poland. Considering the threefold tasks of the Church in the world i.e. the ministry of governance, teaching and sanctifying, the author has made an attempt to specify the fundamental problems of a political, social, legal and administrative character encountered by the Catholic Church in the process of implementation of the above mentioned mission in Poland in the years 1945–1989.
Przedmiotem zainteresowania autora opracowania są relacje państwo – Kościół w Polsce Rzeczpospolitej Ludowej. Mając na uwadze trojakie zadania Kościoła w świecie, a mianowicie posługę rządzenia, nauczania i uświęcania, podjął on próbę określenia fundamentalnych problemów natury politycznej, społecznej, prawnej i administracyjnej, na jakie natrafił Kościół katolicki w zakresie realizacji wspomnianej misji w Polsce w latach 1945–1989.
