Opis:: The aim of the following study is to analyze the composition of the main directions of public intervention in relation to rural areas. In the following work, the author tried to answer the following research questions: How is rural development defined? What are the most important paradigms of rural development and what are their characteristics? How have the directions of public intervention changed in relation to the countryside? What is the importance of agriculture for rural development? What are the functions of rural areas? What are the assumptions of the nascent paradigm of smart rural development? Literature review allowed to indicate the main concepts of rural development, which are: agricultural development, multifunctional development of agriculture, multifunctional rural development, sustainable rural development, integrated rural development and smart rural development. In the articles the main assumptions of the indicated concept were indicated. The new concept of rural development – smart rural development – is based in many parts on old concepts but figured that implementation of new technologies and ICT in economic, social and environmental sphere is necessary if the rural area want to develop.

Opis:: The paper presents the issue of the sustainable tourism which corresponds with the concept of the sustainable development. The work concentrates on the theoretical analysis of the sustainable tourism, often treated as a tool of accomplishment of the sustainable development or the tool of the development of tourism itself. The article is an attempt to state the basic rules of the sustainable tourism on the so-called rural health resort areas. The work shows what kind of tourism can be developed on the analysed rural areas, at the same time being in harmony with the concept of the sustainable tourism. In the paper the analysis of the national and foreign literature from the domain of the concept of the sustainable tourism, including rural areas, and the observation of the chosen indicators of the sustainable development of health resorts villages are presented. The concept of the sustainable development arose in the 1970s and it was an expression of the critical reaction to the growing interference in natural and social and cultural resources. The concept of the sustainable development is not opposite to the possibilities of economic growth, on condition that the pace of the reproduction of the environmental resources is not slower than the pace of the usage of these resources. The theoretical basis of the usage of the rules of the sustainable development in the world literature started to be seen at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The document „Agenda 21 for Travelling and Tourism Economy” turned out to be fundamental for the development of the concept of the sustainable tourism. The practical use of the concept of the sustainable development in the rural areas economy needs devising indicators and indexes characterizing this development. The indicators are divided into: indicators of environmental pressure (danger, stress), indicators of condition (quality) of the environment and indicators of preventive activities. The economic significance of the tourism lies in its positive influence on the different departments of the economy, including agriculture. One of the more important impacts is stopping the migration of people from the rural areas.

Opis:: The rural areas of Castilla-La Mancha have managed to preserve a unique natural and cultural character. A great diversity of touristic qualities makes the region especially attractive for development of rural tourism. For many years, the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha had to cope with numerous socio-economic difficulties. Development of the tourist industry resulted in diversification of income sources and higher level of employment. Another positive effect of the process was activation of female members of the community. The principle aim of this article is to underline the complementary role of tourism in rural areas in relation to agriculture and urban tourism.

Opis:: Since the 1970s, economic restructuring and the farm crisis have reduced rural communities’ economic opportunities. These changes have limited rural communities’ economic development options, making older development strategies less viable and forcing many to look for nontraditional ways to sustain themselves. One of the most popular nontraditional rural development strategies has been tourism and its associated entrepreneurship opportunities because of tourism’s ability to bring in dollars and to generate jobs and support retail growth. Rural tourism can be an important instrument of economic development of Serbia. Mountain areas are very attractive to tourists, especially because of the advantages offered by combining the rural environment, history, ethnic, and geographic characteristics. Rural landscape, natural environment, traditional and cultural values are important preconditions for the creation of a competitive tourist attractions.

Opis:: In this work the identification of the process of changes in rural tourism has been presented. The evolution of rural tourism is defined by changes occurring in the countryside and in tourism itself. The presented analysis of the evolution of rural tourism is based on a change in the approach to the definition of rural tourism, to the supply and demand, and to the influence of rural tourism on rural environment. The analysis is restricted by the available literature of the subject and by statistical data for Poland. In the beginning the rural tourism was considered as the tourism occurring in the countryside. Afterwards, many aspects of rural tourism were recognized, which is reflected by its definitions. The evolution of tourism supply also took place and, as a result, the tourism supply became more diverse. Apart from traditional forms of vacational tourism, some new forms requiring a specifically designed landscape, equipment, cultural events, managment etc. appeared. New clients looking for specific experiences in rural tourism also appeared. For such clients the countryside became a tourism product. They are also able to provide a sufficient income for the sustainable development of the countryside. Providing tourism services by farms often leads to the collapse of their agricultural activity, and, in consequence, to the dominating role of tourists’ service, which leads to the multifunctionality of the countryside. Such a hypothesis requires further empirical investigations. The literature of the subject indicates that the model of tourist area lifecycle (TALC), as proposed by Butler in 1980, is useful for carrying out analyses of rural tourism evolution.

Opis:: Parents have asignificant impact on childreris decision about choice of their path of life. For years, forming of the level of parents and their children's educational and occupational aspirations was affected by living conditions of families from rural areas, difficult financial situation and worse education conditions of village schools. The aim of the research was presenting the mechanism of forming the educational and occupational aspirations of secondary school (Polish: gimnazjum) pupils in the country and in town and defining the relations between background conditions (including family background) and the level of pupils' educational and occupational aspirations. Particularly, the answer the ąuestion was tried to find - what are conditions of pupils of village secondary schools' life's aspirations (educational and occupational)? Presented results of the research are only the fragment of wider survey of conditions of young people's aspirations. Among numerous conditions, which have been analysed, the factors of family background appeared, such as: number of family members, families' financial and materiał conditions, parents' education, parents' aspirations to their children's education and family traditions connecting with working in particular profession.

Opis:: Despite the fact that multifunctionality and sustainability are guiding principles of Swiss agricultural policy, the number of contributions from Swiss academics to the literature on multifunctionality is small. However, the quality of these contributions is quite high, as they generally address the comprehensiveness of the concept as well as the context in which agricul-ture is positioned. Moreover, the review of existing literature reveals a lack of analyses that inves-tigate the relationship between the concepts of multifunctionality and sustainability, or sustainable development.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań nad koncepcjami wielofunkcyjności rolnictwa i obszarów wiejskich w Szwajcarii. Na podstawie badań można stwierdzić, że pomimo określenia wielofunkcyjności i zrównoważenia jako priorytetów szwajcarskiej polityki rolnej, badania szwajcarskich naukowców związane z wielofunkcyjnością są realizowane w niewielkim zakresie. Dotychczasowe badania odnoszą się do koncepcji wielofunkcyjności w innych krajach Europy i charakteryzuje je wysoka jakość. Przegląd dostępnej literatury ujawnia brak analiz, które przedstawiają relacje między koncepcjami wielofunkcyjności, zrównoważenia i zrównoważonego rozwoju.

Opis:: This study seeks to analyse the process of rural areas policy development in Poland. In this sense, various approaches towards multifunctional rural development within the scientific arena are presented. In Poland, the concept of multifunctionality of rural areas occurred at the beginning of the 1990?s as a result of political system transformation. The research conducted so far points to the definitions of multifunctionality of rural areas as referring to non-agricultural activities of the rural community.
Celem artykułu było zanalizowanie koncepcji wielofunkcyjnego rozwoju rolnictwa i obszarów wiejskich. Przeprowadzone badania określiły kierunki rozwoju polityki obszarów wiejskich w Polsce. Jednocześnie przedstawiono różne podejścia badawcze dotyczące wielofunkcyjnego rozwoju obszarów wiejskich. W Polsce zwarte koncepcje wielofunkcyjności rolnictwa i obszarów wiejskich pojawiły się na początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych w rezultacie transformacji systemu politycznego i dążenia do integracji z Unią Europejską. Przeprowadzone dotychczas w Polsce badania wskazują, że wielofunkcyjność jest definiowana przede wszystkim w odniesieniu do rozwoju pozarolniczej aktywności społeczności wiejskiej.

Opis:: The aim of the study was to try to obtain answers to the following questions: What changes have appeared in the funeral ritual in Polish countryside in the last 60 years and: Can these processes be included in the crisis of death? The research was carried out among women residents of Smardzów, situated 24 kilometres north-east of Wrocław. There were 12 interviews carried out. A research technique used in order to obtain interesting data, constituted an interview with a standardised number of questions. According to the answers of many responders, it is possible to find a lot of changes in funeral rite. Those answers indicate the crisis of death. We no longer deal with death as a public event, people rather die alone in hospitals, not surrounded with their family at home. The funeral celebration has been limited dramatically. The most attention is given to the organization of a funeral feast. All these phenomena are part of the concept of the crisis of death.
