Opis:
Seed yield and yield components were investigated using single meadow fescue plants (Festuca pratensis Huds.) grown in widely spaced rows. Plants of four cultivars (Cykada, Skawa, Skiba and Skra), entered into the EU catalogue, made the representative sample. On the basis of observations and measurements of 20 plants from two harvest dates and three vegetation seasons, the number of days till heading, number of panicles, seed weight per panicle, degree of panicle axis maturity, weight of fallen seeds, the shedding being induced under laboratory conditions, and gross seed yield. For these traits mean values, coefficients of variation, simple correlation coefficients and Wright’s path coefficients were calculated. Over the period of the three-year experiments the greatest variation was found for seed weight per panicle, seed yield per plant and number of panicles, especially in the first harvest year. From among the investigated traits, seed yield per plant was most correlated with the number of panicles per plant (r = 0.480** to r = 0.829**) and seed weight per panicle (r = 0.336* to r = 0.820**). As the number of panicles per plant increased, the weight of fallen seeds increased as well (r = 0.432** to r = 0.620**). The path analysis confirmed the finding that the number of panicles per plant, increasing in successive years, determined the seed yield by 12–23%, 40–46% and 63–74% respectively. The greatest direct effects of the number of panicles and seed weight per panicle on seed yield were observed in the second harvest year.
Plon nasion i komponenty plonu badano na pojedynczych roślinach kostrzewy łąkowej wysadzonych w szerokiej rozstawie. Próbę reprezentatywną stanowiły rośliny 4 odmian (Cykada, Skawa, Skiba i Skra) wpisanych do katalogu UE.

Opis:
Soybean is a photophilic and thermophilic plant with short-day photoperiodism. Therefore, special attention should be paid to proper seed sowing in soybean agriculture practice. The aim of the experiment was to evaluate soybean response to different seed sowing time points. The main plots were three sowing dates scheduled each year at about 10-day intervals (19/04/2016, 29/04/2016, 9/05/2016, 13/04/2017, 24/04/2017, 2/05/2017, 16/04/2018, 27/04/2018, 7/05/2018). Subplots were three soybean varieties: Aldana, Merlin and Lissabon. Weather conditions varied in years and had an effect on the study results obtained. The early date of sowing reduced plant density before harvest in comparison with later sowings. The growing season of plants shortened as the sowing date was delayed. The early sowing date increased the number of pods per plant and thousand seeds weight (TSW) in relation to the optimal time point. Protein content in seeds was significantly higher after sowing the seeds in a delayed period compared to the early date. The early sowing date increased the content of phosphorus and potassium in the seeds. The yield of seeds, protein and fat did not vary depending on the sowing date. However, they varied in the successive years of research. In 2017, plots with a delayed sowing date gave a significantly higher seed yield compared to the early date. The early variety Aldana yielded significantly lower than the mid-early varieties Merlin and Lissabon. The low SPAD index (soil plant analysis development) and high LAI index (leaf area index) were determined in the variety Lissabon.

Opis:
The experiment was carried out in 2007-2009, in the central-eastern Poland. The investigated factors were kind of covers: the control without covering, perforated foil with 100 holes per 1m2 and polypropylene fibre weighing 17·g·m-2, and broad beans cultivars - ‘White Windsor’, ‘Bizon’ and ‘Bachus’. Broad bean seeds were sown at the beginning of the second decade of April, at 50 × 10 cm spacing. Directly after sowing the field was covered by covers, which were left on the plants for 3 weeks. After removing the covers the height of plants was measured. Broad bean was harvested at the stage of milk maturity of seeds. The height of broad bean plants and the number of pods per plant were determined prior to the harvest. During the harvest the weight of pods and the yield of fresh seeds were determined and productivity of seeds was calculated from the weight of pods. Biometric parameters of pods and seeds i.e. length of pods, the number of seeds per pod and length, width and thickness of seeds were measured. It was found that the broad bean covering contributed to increase in the height of plant and yield as well as improvement of the biometric parameters of pods and seeds compared to the control object without covering. The highest yield of pods and seeds was produced by ‘Bizon’ cv. Plants covered by polypropylene fibre yielded best. The seeds of grown cultivars were characterized by similar parameters. Polypropylene fibre covering favoured formation of pods and seeds in the pods but did not cause changes in the seed parameters.

Opis:
The aim of the present paper is to assess the effect of cultivation systems and varied nitrogen fertilisation doses on yield and yield components of two cultivars and one strain of winter spelt. The experiment was conducted on soil is classified as Haplic Cambisol. Three factors were compared in the course of the experiment: factor I – 2 cultivation systems: reduced tillage and conventional cultivation, factor II – 4 nitrogen fertilisation levels, factor III – cultivar/strain. The plants under analysis were two cultivars of winter spelt: German ‘Frankenkorn’ and Swiss ‘Oberkulmer Rotkorn’ and strain STH 12. There was no significant difference regarding winter spelt grain yield depending on the cultivation system. Nitrogen fertilisation caused a significant increase in yield to a certain threshold which, when exceeded, resulted in a decrease of grain yield. The highest yield was obtained for STH 12 strain. With respect to thousand grain weight, number of ears per m2, number of grains yield per ear, and ear yield, there was a significant relationship with the cultivar factor. SPAD values showed no differences between cultivars. The method of cultivation (conventional vs. reduced tillage) did not show differences for the four analysed yield components and SPAD of winter spelt.

Opis:
In an experiment carried out in the years 2004-2007 at the Agriculture Research Station Zawady (52o20’ N; 22o30’ E) owned by the Podlasie Academy in Siedlce the forecrop value was evaluated for winter wheat of post-harvest residues alone or in combination with straw, of spring wheat, faba bean and spring wheat-faba bean mixtures. Post-harvest residue and straw biomass as well as total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium accumulations were assessed. Spring triticale produced more post-harvest residues and straw than faba bean. Spring triticale-faba bean mixtures in turn produced intermediate amounts of post-harvest residues and straw compared with the plants in question cultivated in pure stand. Spring triticale biomass was poorer in nitrogen and potassium than faba bean and spring triticale-faba bean mixtures. Winter wheat cultivation following faba bean and mixtures of spring triticale and faba bean significantly increased grain yield and total protein yield, compared with winter wheat cultivation after spring triticale. Soil quality increased as faba bean share in the mixture increased. Straw added to forecrop post-harvest residues significantly increased grain yield, number of ears per 1 m2 and total protein content and yield.
Określono masę resztek pożniwnych i słomy, nagro-madzenie azotu ogółem, fosforu i potasu. Pszenżyto jare wytworzyło więcej resztek poż-niwnych i słomy niż bobik.

Opis:
Soybean is an important legume crop globally due to its rich protein, oil content, and functional components. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the yield of selected soybean cultivars depending on cultivation methods. The three-year field experiment, conducted from 2018 to 2020 at the Agricultural Experimental Station in Kępa-Puławy, Osiny farm (Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation - State Research Institute in Puławy), investigated these variations. The first experimental factor was the soil cultivation method: A - conventional tillage, B - reduced tillage, and C - strip tillage. The second variable was soybean cultivar: ‘Aldana’ and ‘Merlin’. The soybean cultivars were selected for their differing maturity rates: ‘Aldana’ (000) is an early cultivar, while ‘Merlin’ (000++) semi-late cultivar. The field experiment utilised a split-plot design on Luvisol soil with sandy loam texture, belonging to a good rye complex, class IIIb-IVa, and was replicated four times. The study showed that the productivity (seed and protein yield) of the ‘Merlin’ cultivar grown in the central-eastern part of Poland was approximately 8% higher than that of the ‘Aldana’ cultivar. The cultivation method had a relatively minor influence on soybean yield, the content of selected nutrients, morphological features, and elements of the yield structure. The soil in strip-tillage method was more compact than the soil cultivated with a plough. After harvesting soybeans at a depth of 30, and 40 cm, the compactness of soil in strip-tillage or with reduced tillage was much lower than in spring, highlighting a positive effect of soybean cultivation on loosening the arable layer.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the response of new cultivars of spring barley in terms of the grain yield, yield components and protein content in grains, to an increase in the sowing rate. Microplot experiments were carried out in the IUNG-PIB experimental plot in Puławy, where the influence of the following sowing densities on the yielding of selected cultivars was studied: 250, 350 and 450 grains m-2. In the years 2011–2012, the following cultivars were investigated: Basic, Goodluck, Iron, KWS Olof, Natasia, and in the years 2012–2013 cultivars: Despina, Ella, Fariba, Gawrosz (hulless variety), Kucyk and Raskud. The experiments were carried out on a soil of a good wheat complex (heavy loamy sand deposited on light loam). An increase in grain yield (averaged across cultivars) was obtained as the sowing density was increased up to 450 grains m-2. At a high sowing rate (450 grains m-2), a significant increase in the grain yield of the following cultivars occurred: Basic, Iron, Despina and Gawrosz, and an increase in the yielding of other cultivars at this sowing rate, compared to the sowing rate of 350 grains m-2, constituted a trend. The largest increases in the yield at a high sowing rate, in comparison to the low rate in the first series of experiments (2011–2012), were demonstrated by the following varieties: Iron (29%), Basic (25%) and Goodluck (21%), and smaller increases were noted for the cultivars: KWS Olof (13%) and Natasia (10%). In the second series (2012–2013), higher yields at a high sowing rate, as opposed to a low sowing rate, were demonstrated by the following cultivars: Gawrosz, Raskud and Despina (31–34%), and lower yields by: Ella, Fariba and Kucyk cultivars (19–21%). The increase in grain yield at a high sowing rate was the result of a bigger number of ears per unit of area in all cultivars (especially in the Basic and Raskud cultivars). The difference in the weight of 1000 grains and the number of grains per ear of the investigated varieties as a consequence of the sowing rate was negligible. In the years 2012–2013, there occurred an increase in the protein content of grains at a high sowing rate. Among all the cultivars (on average considering the sowing rate), the highest grain yields were produced by Iron and Ella, the highest density of the number of ears per unit of area was demonstrated by Natasia, Kucyk and Ella. The cultivars Iron, Gawrosz and Raskud were found to have a significantly higher number of grains per ear than the remaining cultivars.

To study the relationship between seed yield and its components 5 varieties and 18 different genotypes of Cicer arietinum were evaluated. This study was carried out under dryland farming during 2007 in research farm of Razi university. Path analysis showed that in the first level of yield, the highest direct effect was related to biological yield and the highest indirect effect was related to seed number per plant due to biological yield. In second level of yield due to the seed number per plant double seed pod number had the highest direct effect and the highest indirect effect was related to hundreds seed weight due to double the seed pod number. In second level of yield due to biological yield, the highest direct effect was related to high plant and the highest indirect effect was related to high plant due to second branch number. In the third level of yield due to a hundred seed weight, the highest direct effect was related to pod diameter and the highest indirect effect was related to pod length due to pod diameter. Factor analysis showed that 5 factors explained 81.65 percent of the variance. Cluster analysis based on ward method were arranged genotypes in 3 clusters.
