Opis:
Introduction of small amounts of dopant Fe cations intitania was mainly intended for improving the oxidativepower of the host TiO2 surface, by shifting the absorption edge of the material towards the blue side of the visible range. Apart from this, other possible applications of Fe-containing TiO2 materials have been foreseen in the field of diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors for spintronics. As a general remark, while pristine and/or low-level doped titania materials remained a hot subject in basic research, and environment- and energy related applications, reports on Ti1-x FexO2 materials (x > 0.1) scarcely occurred in literature. We have initiated recently an investigation of heavily doped titania thin films within a wider iron compositionrange. Here, we report on the result of an XPS study of the RF sputtered oxygen-deficient thin films (x =0.15 - 0.62) and discuss the connection of the results with the macroscopic properties of the materials.

Opis:
In this work, the photocatalytic properties of Ti–V oxides thin films with 19 and 23 at.% of vanadium addition have been outlined. The films were deposited by the high energy reactive magnetron sputtering method. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements were done in order to determine the chemical composition and binding energy of the elements on the samples surface. Additionally, based on wettability measurements, the water contact angles were evaluated and were equal to ca. 94° and 55° for thin films with 19 and 23 at.% of V, respectively. This testifies about hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties, respectively. Photoactivity of thin films was determined by percent decomposition of phenol for 5 hours during UV–vis radiation exposure. The highest photocatalytic activity of 6.2%/cm2 was obtained for thin films with 19 at.% of V. It has been found that an increase in V amount in Ti–V oxides thin films to 23 at.% results in lowered to 3%/cm2 photocatalytic activity.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to produce composite thin films with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) matrix with nanoparticles of silicon dioxide (SiO2 ) as the reinforcing phase (5 and 10%) using spin coating method and to investigate the influence of mass concentration of silica particles and process parameters on the morphology and optical properties of the obtained PVP/SiO2 nanocomposite coatings. The composite layer topography examination, made using atomic force microscope (AFM), showed the increase of roughness due to the increase of silica mass concentration in thin films. UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis showed that with the increase of SiO2 nanoparticles in polymer matrix and use of higher rotation speed, the absorbance level decrease. Besides, composite layers with 10% mass concentration relative to polymer concentration were characterized by wider energy band gap, so it can be concluded that obtained nanocomposite thin films can be used as protective layers against UV radiation, with zero absorption in the range of visible light wavelengths.

Opis:
In recent years, titanium dioxide has attracted a great deal of attention as a material for photocatalytic applications. These applications include antibacterial effect as well as photocatalytic air and water purification. Another property of TiO2 concerns a substantial increase of its surface hydrophilicity upon irradiation. The aim of this work is to investigate thin TiO2films obtained by RF PECVD technique with respect to hydrophilic and long-term bactericidal activity. Structural studies, carried out by Raman spectroscopy show that all the investigated coatings are amorphous. The films exhibit agglomerates, with their amount depending on energetic conditions of deposition. Adhesion measured by a scratch test shows that films deposited at higher RF power adhere better than those synthesized at lower power values. UV irradiation causes death of nearly 100% of Escherichia coli population on TiO2films. The irradiated films are still active for about 30 min after the end of UV exposure. A substantial decrease of water contact angle is also observed upon the irradiation of the films with UV light.

Opis:
Titanium dioxide thin films doped with the same amount of neodymium were prepared using two different magnetron sputtering methods. Thin films of anatase structure were deposited with the aid of Low Pressure Hot Target Magnetron Sputtering, while rutile coatings were manufactured using High Energy Reactive Magnetron Sputtering process. The thin films composition was determined by energy dispersive spectroscopy and the amount of the dopant was equal to 1 at. %. Structural properties were evaluated using transmission electron microscopy and revealed that anatase films had fibrous structure, while rutile had densely packed columnar structure. Atomic force microscopy investigations showed that the surface of both films was homogenous and consisted of nanocrystalline grains. Photocatalytic activity was assessed based on the phenol decomposition. Results showed that both thin films were photocatalytically active, however coating with anatase phase decomposed higher amount of phenol. The transparency of both thin films was high and equal to ca. 80% in the visible wavelength range. The photoluminescence intensity was much higher in case of the coating with rutile structure.

Opis:
Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Capacitance-Voltage measurements are used to characterize the chemical bonding configuration and crystallographic orientations for SiOxNy thin films grown by glass assisted CO2 laser. FTIR spectra detected the Si-O and Si-N strongest absorption bands are close to each other at wave number in the range (700-1000 cm-1) depending on silicon substrates, and Si-O stretching bond at wave number around (~1088.285 cm-1) with a FWHM of 73.863 cm-1 for the two samples, the presences of hydrogen impurities like Si-H and N-H in the films were also identified and calculated. From C-V measurement film thickness were calculated and found to be 19.2 and 17.2 nm for SiOxNy/Si(111) and SiOxNy/Si(100) respectively. From the flat band voltage of -5.4 and -1.3 measured the two samples, their interface trap densities were found to be 1.4 × 1013 and 1.57 × 1013 ev-1•cm-2 respectively.

Opis:
Fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) films were successfully prepared on glass and quartz substrate at a substrate temperature equal to for different fluorine doping (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15) by a homemade spray pyrolysis technique. The spray solution prepared from tin tetrachloride pentahydrate dissolved in distilled water at concentration and ammonium fluoride was added into the solution for fluorine doping. X-ray diffraction patterns of the spray-deposited (SnO2: F) films for different fluorine doping show that all the diffractograms contain the characteristic SnO2 orientations. The matching of the observed and standard d-values confirm that the deposited films are of tin oxide with tetragonal structure and the films are polycrystalline with (110) as a preferred growth orientation. The surface morphology of thin film has been examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The average transmittance in the visible region (at 550 nm) has been found (40 %, 47 %, 52 %, 59 %, 61 %) for the fluorine doping (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2) respectively.

Opis:
The higher thermal resistance and the mechanical strength of the catalytic element carriers produced on metal substrates contribute to the further interest of the automotive industry on them despite that they show a smaller development of the surface compared to the ceramic carriers. The present work was focused on testing the catalytic properties of oxide films obtained as a result of the high-temperature oxidation of 0H18J5 steel foil under mixture of oxygen and argon which were coated with platinum by reactive dc magnetron sputtering. Hybrid coatings obtained by the oxidation of metal foil prior coated with aluminum nanofilms and then with platinum and the aluminum- platinum composites were also tested. The catalytic activity of the obtained coatings was tested by the pulse method in 2-methylol-3-butyn-2-ol decomposition reaction and the flow method in the process of cyclohexane oxidation. A catalytic test enabling the parameters of cyclohexane oxidation (temperature, time of reaction, cyclohexane concentration in zone of reaction) using the air to be controlled was developed for this flow method. The tests being carried out revealed an influence of different configuration of oxide films and platinum on their catalytic properties. Moreover, a high activity of alumina-Pt systems in the process of cyclohexane reheating with the air was confirmed.
