Opis:
Single charge manipulation for useful electronic functionalities has become an exciting and fast-paced direction of research in recent years. In structures with dimensions below about 100 nm, the physics governing the device operation turn out to be strikingly different than in the case of larger devices. The presence of even a single charge may completely suppress current flow due to the basic electronelectron repulsion (so called Coulomb blockade effect) [1]. It is even more exciting to control this effect at the level of single-electron/single-atom interaction. The atomic entity can be one donor present in silicon lattice with a Coulombic potential well. In principle, it can accommodate basically a single electron. We study the electrical behavior of nanoscale-channel silicon-on-insulator field-effect transistors (SOI-FETs) that contain a discrete arrangement of donors. The donors can be utilized as "stepping stones" for the transfer of single charges. This ability opens the doors to a rich world of applications based on the simple interplay of single charges and single atoms, while still utilizing mostly conventional and well established fabrication techniques. In this work, we distinguish the effects of single-electron transport mediated by one or few dopants only. Furthermore, we show how the single-electron/single-donor interaction can be tuned by using the external biases. We demonstrate then by simulation and experiment the feasibility of single-electron/bit transfer operation (single-electron turnstile).

Opis:
The story of Heliodorus' defeat in 2 Macc depicts God's extraordinary victory over His enemies. The defeat of Heliodorus and his troops described as a personal work of God is an event which happened without any direct human intervention. The present article analyzes this issue in light of ancient heroes' fights with a deity. These heroes paid the penalty not so much as a consequence of their fight, but because of their revelation of a supernatural power. The juxtaposition of many ancient sources, in which we find both the fights of heroes against gods and 'crime and punishment' themes, reveals the conventionality of literary forms used by hagiographers. Pseudo-Philo's LAB is one of the works in which this tradition is present. The story about Mica's idolatrous sanctuary contains some threads which are analogous to 2 Macc, and can be examined from two perspectives. The fi rst one concerns a detailed description of punishment, whereas the second one focuses on an ironic dimension of the story. The analysis proposed in this research presents the composition of 2 Macc 3 as a certain literary convention. At the same time, it connects the rules of interpretation of this text with those relating to historical legends about theomachoi.

The relationship between radiomic features in CT images and the salivary gland SPECT/CT standardised uptake value using 3D analysis
Autorzy:
Ogura, Ichiro

Opis:
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between radiomic features extracted from computed tomography (CT) images and the mean standardised uptake value (SUVmean) obtained from salivary gland single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT), focusing on differences between Sjögren’s syndrome and submandibular sialolithiasis. Material and methods: Thirteen patients (7 with Sjögren’s syndrome and 6 with submandibular sialolithiasis) underwent CT and SPECT/CT imaging. SUVmean was calculated pre- and post-stimulation using technetium-99 m. Radiomic features were extracted from CT images using PyRadiomics, excluding shape-related features due to the impact of metal artifacts. Spearman’s correlation coefficients were used to evaluate the relationship between pre/poststimulation SUVmean ratios and radiomic features. Regression models were created for features strongly correlated with SUVmean ratios. Results: The median pre/post SUVmean ratios were 1.30 (1.02-1.57) for Sjögren’s syndrome and 2.35 (2.23-3.01) for sialolithiasis. In Sjögren’s syndrome, 4 radiomic features correlated strongly with the SUVmean ratio: busyness (r = 0.78, p < 0.01), energy (r = 0.70, p < 0.01), total energy (r = 0.66, p = 0.01), and high grey level emphasis (r = –0.60, p = 0.02). No significant correlations were observed in sialolithiasis. Conclusions: Specific radiomic features in CT images showed strong correlations with SUV ratios in Sjögren’s syndrome but not in sialolithiasis. These findings suggest the potential utility of CT radiomics in evaluating salivary gland function, particularly in Sjögren’s syndrome, providing insights into functional assessments without SPECT/CT.

Opis:
All deuteron analyzing powers for elastic deuteron-proton (dp) scattering have been measured with a polarized deuteron beam at 186.6 MeV/nucleon. They are compared with results of three-nucleon Faddeev calculations based on the standard, high-precision nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials alone or combined with commonly used three-nucleon force (3NF) models such as the Tucson-Melbourne '99 or the Urbana IX. Predicted 3NF effects localized at backward angles are supported only partially by the data. The data are also compared to predictions based on locally regularized chiral NN potentials. An estimation of theoretical truncation uncertainties in the consecutive orders of chiral expansion suggests that the observed discrepancies between this modern theory and the data could probably be explained by including chiral 3NF's in future calculations. A systematic comparison to the deuteron analyzing power data previously taken at incident energies from 70 to 294 MeV/nucleon clearly shows that not only the cross section but also the analyzing powers reveal growing 3NF effects when the three-nucleon system energy is increased.

Opis:
Core-collapse supernovae are among the most magnificent events in the observable universe. They produce many of the chemical elements necessary for life to exist and their remnants—neutron stars and black holes—are interesting astrophysical objects in their own right. However, despite millennia of observations and almost a century of astrophysical study, the explosion mechanism of core-collapse supernovae is not yet well understood. Hyper-Kamiokande is a next-generation neutrino detector that will be able to observe the neutrino flux from the next galactic core-collapse supernova in unprecedented detail. We focus on the first 500 ms of the neutrino burst, corresponding to the accretion phase, and use a newly-developed, high-precision supernova event generator to simulate Hyper-Kamiokande's response to five different supernova models. We show that Hyper-Kamiokande will be able to distinguish between these models with high accuracy for a supernova at a distance of up to 100 kpc. Once the next galactic supernova happens, this ability will be a powerful tool for guiding simulations toward a precise reproduction of the explosion mechanism observed in nature.
