Opis:
A tendency towards posthumanism is on the increase today. The author of the article aims to analyse the issue in order to provide a critical interpretation, offering a short description of the phenomenon, a key concept (freedom) useful in addressing the problem, and a concrete perspective in order to face up to and accept its challenge. In other words: the author of the contribution rejects posthumanism because it is in opposition to humanism and suggests embracing neohumanism as the ethical improvement of human behaviour related principally to education, and not simply to technical progress. The main principle is that human beings are ends, not means of all activities aiming at enhancement of human capacities.
Współcześnie coraz wyraźniejsza wydaje się być tendencja zmierzania ku posthumanizmowi. W artykule autor stara się analizować tę problematykę z zamiarem przedstawienia krytycznej interpretacji oraz zaproponowania krótkiego opisu fenomenu posthumanizmu, kluczowego pojęcia (wolność) przydatnego do analizy tego problemu, oraz konkretnej perspektywy, aby móc w ten sposób stawić czoło temu fenomenowi oraz przyjąć wyzwanie jakie on niesie. Innymi słowy: autor artykułu odrzuca posthumanizm, ponieważ stoi on w opozycji do humanizmu, oraz sugeruje przyjęcie neohumanizmu jako sposobu etycznego poprawiania ludzkiego zachowania, co jest zasadniczo powiązane z edukacją, a nie bezpośrednio z postępem technologicznym. Podstawową zasadą jest zatem założenie, że ludzie stanowią cele, a nie środki wszelkich działań zmierzających do poszerzania ludzkich możliwości.

Das sich immer intensiver aufgrund der philosophischen Anthropologie entwickelnde posthumanistische Paradigma stellt eine neue Sichtweise auf die Stellung des Menschen im metaphysischen Universum dar, die ein anderes als das bisher herrschende Leitbild der Verhältnisse des Menschen mit nicht-menschlichen Wesen nach sich zieht. Der Posthumanismus vollzieht dadurch eine Wiederbelebung der Überzeugung, dass der Ethik die Metaphysik zugrunde liegt. Im Artikel rekonstruiere ich diese Voraussetzung am Beispiel des Entwurfs des „neuen Materialismus“ (u. a. Rosi Braidotti, Jane Bennett, Diane Coole, Samantha Frost). Ich erörtere auch Probleme, die sich mit der Möglichkeit verbinden, ethische Thesen mit Behauptungen von metaphysischem Charakter zu begründen, welche im Bereich des Posthumanismus erscheinen. Die Diagnostizierung dieser Schwierigkeiten erlaubt eine nähere Charakteristik des posthumanistischen Standpunkts und seiner besonderen Variante – des neuen Materialismus.
This paper explores the key assumption for posthumanism, according to which developing new metaphysics will bring about the establishment of new ethics, which considers not only human, but also non-human beings. The article first reconstructs this view using an example of “new materialism” (R. Braidotti, J. Bennett, D. Coole, S. Frost), and subsequently discusses problems related to the justification of ethical reasons by metaphysical assertions, which occur within posthumanism.
W artykule analizuję kluczowe dla posthumanizmu założenie, zgodnie z którym wytworzenie nowej metafizyki ustanowi fundament dla nowej etyki obejmującej nie tylko człowieka, ale też byty pozaludzkie. W artykule najpierw zrekonstruowano tę tezę na przykładzie „nowego materializmu” (R. Braidotti, J. Bennett, D. Coole, S. Frost), a następnie omówiono problemy łączące się z uzasadnianiem tez etycznych przez występujące w posthumanizmie twierdzenia metafizyczne.

Opis:
Celem mojego artykułu jest próba pokazania, że posthumanizm jest ideologią, która znajduje swoje przedłużenie w perspektywie badawczej nazywanej posthumanistyką. Stosowane przeze mnie pojęcie ideologii nie jest nacechowane negatywnie. Ideologia jest nieodłącznym elementem towarzyszącym życiu społecznemu, a jej iluzoryczny charakter oznacza w gruncie rzeczy tyle, że służy ona człowiekowi jako narzędzie orientowania się w świecie. Ideologia zdaje również sprawę z aktualnych wyzwań, przed którymi stoi społeczeństwo oraz ze sprzeczności, które związane są z tymi problemami. Sprzeczność obecna w posthumanizmie polega w mojej ocenie na tym, że pryncypialnie wyklucza on wszelkie formy humanizmu/antropocentryzmu, ale w praktyce nie może uciec od jakiejś postaci humanizmu i antropocentryzmu. Są one niezbędne, by oddać sprawiedliwość światom innych gatunków zwierząt, uzasadnić porządek etyczny bliski posthumanistom czy móc posługiwać się pojęciem sprawczości.
My article aims at showing that posthumanism is an ideology that finds its extension in research perspective called posthumanities. The notion of ideology I apply is not a negative one. Ideology is an intrinsic element of social life, and its illusive character essentially means that it serves as a tool for man to orientate in the world. It also gives an account of the current challenges faced by society and of the contradictions related to them. In my opinion, the contradiction embedded in posthumanism is that it excludes in a principled way all kinds of humanism/anthropocentrism, but is virtually unable to escape some form of humanism and anthropocentrism. They are necessary to do justice to the worlds of other animal species, to substantiate the ethical order that posthumanists feel close to, or to be able to use the notion of agency.

Having seen the collapse of the basic axioms in the last decades—of human, body, nature, animal — we are forced to rethink their relations to reality, seen as objective and rational. As Aleksander Kmak argues in the chapter Posthumanism as a Project in Visual Culture Anthropology: Several Images of the Body, European philosophy was based on the paradoxical foundations of iconoclastic visual culture that didn’t recognise its own images and pictures but instead was convinced that the direct access to the domain of truth was indeed possible. Obvious differentiation between the reality and its picture is perhaps the best proof — and, of course, it’s not a coincidence that most often, it belittles pictures. Seeing in posthumanism the potential to transgress such anachronistic antagonisms which keep the critical thought trapped, Kmak perceives it as an iconophilic anthropology of a visual culture project that doesn’t set the truth of nature and the falsehood of representation in conflict any more. Instead, it creates more and more images and counter-images affirming their values without the necessary reference to the idea of objective truth and reality. Analysing some popular culture examples, the author proves how even in the age of advanced technologies the notion of body is still predetermined by the old antagonism of the truth and its image. Furthermore, it is shown how posthumanist, visual culture could intervene accepting the fact that the human body remains, from the moment of creation, a picture.
