Opis:
The behaviour of an Ising spin glass (S=1/2) with infinite range interactions is modelled using a numerical simulation based on a neural network. Thermodynamic variables are defined on the network, and are found to obey the Thouless-Anderson-Palmer theory when the applied magnetic field is zero. When a magnetic field is applied along the spin direction, complex field-dependent behaviour appears, including a state in which the Edwards-Anderson order parameter is independent of temperature below the critical temperature.

Opis:
Jurassic rhynchonellide brachiopods from the Jordan Valley are herein revised and new taxa are added to the faunal list. In this study of Jurassic rhynchonellides from Wadi Zarqa, northwestern Jordan, we recognize the following taxa: Eurysites rotundus, Cymatorhynchia quadriplicata, Daghanirhynchia triangulata, D. angulocostata, Pycnoria magna, Schizoria elongata, and Schizoria cf. intermedia. The following new taxa are described: Daghanirhynchia susanae sp. nov. and Amydroptychus markowitzi sp. nov. The Middle Jurassic Mughanniyya Formation of northwest Jordan is dominated by limestone beds. The sedimentary environment is interpreted as neritic, light, and nutrient−rich resulting in high faunal diversity. The high rhynchonellide endemism of this fauna is yet another confirmation of pronounced Middle Jurassic endemism along the southern Tethyan margin of the Ethiopian Province. Brachiopods of the Jordanian Mughanniyya Formation can be correlated with the fauna of the Aroussiah Formation in Sinai and the Zohar and Matmor formations in Southern Israel.

Opis:
Twelve time interval maps have been presented which depict the plate tectonic configuration, paleogeography and lithofacies for the circum-arpathian area from the Late Carboniferous through Neogene and for the circum-Ouachita region from Late Cambrian through Early Permian. The following geodynamic evolutionary stages can be distinguished in these two orogens: Stage I - rifting of terranes off the major continent, forming oceanic basins (Triassic-Early Cretaceous in the Carpathian region, Cambrian-Devonian in the Ouachita region); Stage II - formation of subduction zones along the active margin, partial closing of oceanic basin, development of deep-water flysch basin associate with this rifting on the platform (passive margin) with the attenuated continental crust (Late Cretaceous-Paleocene in the Carpathian region, Early Carboniferous in the Ouachitas); Stage III - collision, perhaps terrane-continent, with the accompanying conver- gence of two large continents, development of accretionary prisms, Eocene-Early Miocene time in the Carpathian region, Late Carboniferous in the Ouachitas; and Stage IV - postcollisional, (Miocene-Present-future? in the Carpathians, Permian-Triassic in the Ouachitas). Both, Carpathians and Ouachitas are accretionary prisms formed in response to terrane-continent and continent-continent collision. The paleogeographic approach we have taken shows how these mountain belts were constructed through the orogenic cycle, which reflects complex plate tectonic processes. Carpathians and Ouachitas record complete and homologous Wilson cycle.

Opis:
The Fankou zinc concentrate (Guangdong province, China) was mineralogically characterized and results showed that the main germanium-bearing minerals in the sample comprised of zinc sulfide and galena, whereas gallium-bearing minerals were pyrite, sphalerite and silicate. Oxygen pressure leaching of zinc sulfide concentrate was carried out in order to investigate the effect of pressure, leaching time, sulfuric acid and copper concentrations on the leaching behavior of gallium and germanium. Under optimum conditions, leaching of Zn, Fe, Ge and Ga reached 98.21, 90.45, 97.45 and 96.65%, respectively. In the leach residues, it was determined that some new precipitates, such as PbSO4, CaSO4 and SiO2, were formed, which co-precipitated a certain amount of Ga and Ge from the leach solution. The results clearly indicated that Ga and Ge were much more difficult to leach than Zn, and provided answers to why the leaching efficiency of Ga is 10% lower when compared to Ge.

Opis:
The detonation of an (hypothetical) improvised nuclear device (IND) can generate atmospheric release of radioactive material in the form of particles and dust that ultimately contaminate the soil. In this study, the detonation of an IND in an urban area was simulated, and its effects on humans were determined. The risk of solid cancer development due to radiation was calculated by taking into account prompt radiation and whole-body exposure of individuals near the detonation site up to 10 km. The excess relative risk (ERR) of developing solid cancer was evaluated by using the mathematical relationships from the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) studies and those from the HotSpot code. The methodology consists of using output data obtained from simulations performed with the HotSpot health physics code plugging in such numbers into a specific given equation used by RERF to evaluate the resulting impact. Such a preliminary procedure is expected to facilitate the decision-making process significantly.

We determine the light baryon spectrum on ensembles generated by the Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) effort, employing N$_{f}$ = 2 + 1 flavours of non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions. The hadron masses are interpolated and extrapolated within the quark mass plane, utilizing three distinct trajectories, two of which intersect close to the physical quark mass point and the third one approaching the SU(3) chiral limit. The results are extrapolated to the continuum limit, utilizing six different lattice spacings ranging from a ≈ 0.10 fm down to below 0.04 fm. The light pion mass varies from Mπ ≈ 429 MeV down to 127 MeV. In general, the spatial extent is kept larger than four times the inverse pion mass and larger than 2.3 fm, with additional small and large volume ensembles to investigate finite size effects. We determine the Wilson flow scales $\sqrt{t_{0,ph}}$ = 0.1449$_{(9)}^{(7)}$ fm [1] and t$_{0}^{*}$ ≈ t$_{0,ph}$ [2] from the octet cascade ($\Xi$ baryon). Determining the light baryon spectrum in the continuum limit, we find the nucleon mass m$_{N}$ = 941.7$_{(7.6)}^{(6.5)}$ MeV and the other stable baryon masses to agree with their experimental values within sub-percent level uncertainties. Moreover, we determine SU(3) and SU(2) chiral perturbation theory low energy constants, including the octet and the $\Omega$ baryon sigma terms $\sigma_{\pi N}$ = 43.9(4.7) MeV, $\sigma_{\pi \Lambda}$ = 28.2$_{(5.4)}^{(4.3)}$ MeV, $\sigma_{\pi \Sigma}$ = 25.9$_{(6.1)}^{(3.8)}$ MeV, $\sigma_{\pi \Xi}$ = 11.2$_{(6.4)}^{(4.5)}$ MeV and $\sigma_{\pi \Omega}$ = 6.9$_{(4.3)}^{(5.3)}$ MeV, as well as various parameters, renormalization factors and improvement coefficients that are relevant for simulations with our lattice action.
