Opis:: In the 17th century philosophy the debate between those justifying religious faith by the rational arguments in the spirit of St. Anselm’s formula fides quaerens intellectum and those, who criticised this approach as unjustified because of the fundamental limitations of human reason vis-à-vis God’s infinity and emphasised the significance of faith assisted by divine grace, was continued by such thinkers as René Descartes and Blaise Pascal, and many others. Descartes put forward two arguments for the existence of God: a cosmological one (in two versions) and an ontological one. He borrowed some general theses and concepts from St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas and the late scholasticism and put them together in an original way (e.g. mathematical analogies). Pascal in his Pensées criticised Descartes’ arguments as futile from the Christian point of view, as unable to inspire faith and therefore to save human beings.

This essay attempts to weigh in on the problem of evil in politics. The starting point follows the political reflections of B. Pascal and M. Montaigne. Here, the history of philosophy is used to conceptualize the problems of the present and, in fact, those that are enduring. Thinking about the sources of power and a state’s legitimacy proves to be a universal meditation on human destiny and freedom when challenged by existential threats.

Opis:: The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that the current crisis in priestly vocations has deep roots in the crisis facing the family. Therefore, the author claims that the solution to the current priesthood crisis is possible by first resolving the family crisis. The first part of the article indicates the main challenges facing the family. The second part discusses the family as the source of every vocation (including priestly vocation). The third part addresses the problem of pastoral involvement in the process of awakening priestly vocations.

Opis:: This article presents the results of the implementation of the Erasmus Plus project (KA203 financed by the European Union, contract number 2019-1-NL01-KA203-060339) Research in Teacher Education (RiTE). The aim of the project was to promote and facilitate pre-service teachers to create and undertake evidence-based practices in teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In the RiTE project, pre-service teachers were encouraged to use evidence from educational and scientific research and to experiment and introduce didactic innovations in teaching and learning processes. Although it has its justification in the tradition of thinking about science, evidence-based practice is not yet consciously applied in school practice. In the article, we present both the theoretical framework for such practices, and the results of qualitative research – an analysis of interviews conducted with students, future teachers, and novice teachers involved in the project. The presented results show changes in the context of an understanding of evidence and what evidence-based practices are in the teaching process and the vision of such teaching presented by the respondents.

Opis:: This research investigates the relationship between football match outcomes, betting odds and the stock prices of publicly traded European football clubs, spanning from 11 February 2004 to 7 April 2022. Drawing data from 12 major European and publicly traded clubs, the study utilised betting odds as a key metric. These odds, aggregated from the Odds Portal, serve as a gauge for expected versus unexpected match outcomes. Preliminary findings showed a market value increase of 0.44% after a win and a decrease of 1.08% post-defeat. Moreover, deviations from betting odds predictions significantly influenced stock prices, with unexpected wins and losses resulting in a 2.27% increase and 1.35% decrease, respectively. The temporal dimension of matches revealed differential stock price reactions based on the match’s placement within the season. Additionally, National League games, due to their economic implications, showcased a distinct impact on stock prices compared to Cup games. This study accentuates the instrumental role of betting odds in interpreting the interplay between football outcomes and stock market dynamics, enhancing our comprehension of capital market efficiency. The results suggest that the capital market efficiently takes into account the published betting odds.
