Opis:
Purpose Cutting parameters are often chosen for machining by machine operators in the industry. The experience and efficiency of the machine operator in producing a quality product are frequently used to decide parameter selection—low productivity results from improper parameter selection, inefficient machining, and technological issues. Today's key issues in the machining industry are focusing on increasing machining performance on surface roughness while minimising coolant usage. The study's objective is to enhance the performance of the nozzle lubrication system during the turning operation of an aluminium alloy 319 workpieces (Al319) to generate good surface roughness by applying turning parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, and the depth of cut. Design/methodology/approach Response Surface Method (RSM) was used to create the experimental method for this investigation, carried out using a CNC lathe machine with two axial movements and a wet cooling nozzle with a size of 1.0 mm. Synthetic soluble lubricants, Al2O3-coated cemented carbide inserts, and Aluminium alloy 319 were utilised as cutting tools and workpiece materials. Findings To study the influence of cutting parameters on surface roughness, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) approach was utilised while the response surface method was performed to achieve an optimum machining performance (RSM). When comparing dry and wet cooling systems, the size of 1.0 mm nozzle shows appropriate surface roughness. According to the ANOVA analysis, the key factor impacting the surface roughness as machining performance in lubrication technique experiments was the utilisation of 1.0 mm nozzle size. Research limitations/implications The findings of combination machining parameters at a cutting speed of 270 m/min and a cutting depth of 0.60 mm at a feed rate of 0.08 mm/min offered the best results, achieving a surface roughness, Ra of 0.94 µm. Practical implications The use of coolant size nozzle 1.0 mm technology combined with the use of correct machining parameters can improve machining cuts. Originality/value The novel size of 1.0 mm nozzle in this current research is also valuable for reducing and increasing productivity in the machining business, as well as reducing dependency on machining operators' experience and abilities.

Thin films of PVK blended with PVDF-HfP (PVK:PVDF-HfP) and PVP (PVK:PVP) were prepared using doctor blade technique on spectrosil substrate. The influences of polymer blends to the excitation and emission spectra were observed under UV excitation source of a xenon lamp. The result shows a discrepancy in the maximum excitation and emission for each samples. The possible energy transfer and recombination mechanisms have been related with singlet-singlet semi-empirical INDO electronic calculation and FTIR measurements.

Opis:
Purpose: This research aims to investigate the detailed state of adsorption kinetics modelling and research on the application of hydrogen sulfide adsorption by hydrogel derived from empty fruit bunch (EFB), the determination of the kinetics parameters, and the comparison between models in a selection of the best-fit model. Design/methodology/approach: The kinetics modelling used are pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. The correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the suitability of the equation R2. After obtaining the results, the comparison was made by comparing the R2 of each model. The pseudo-second-order model has a higher value of correlation coefficient, R2, making it the most suitable kinetics model for adsorption systems. Findings: The R2 for pseudo-first-order on the effect of dry bed height was 0.8814, whereas its effect on powder bed height was 0.9537, and that of the wet bed height was 0.9607. Meanwhile, the R2 for pseudo-second-order on the effect of dry bed height was 0.89, on the effect of the powder bed height was 0.99, and on the effect of the bed height of wet was 0.99, the highest among kinetic models. Based on the results, the pseudo-second-order model best describes the adsorption of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) by hydrogel biochar. Research limitations/implications: The kinetics modelling used are pseudo-first-order, and pseudo-second-order models for hydrogen sulfide adsorption by hydrogel originating from empty fruit bunches (EFB). Practical implications: Based on the results, the pseudo-second-order model best describes the adsorption of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) by hydrogel biochar. Kinetic studies are important in understanding the reactions and design of the process. Originality/value: The authenticity results of this article were found to be 17% similar. The novelty of this paper is the kinetics study of the new adsorbent developed based on EFB to adsorb H2S.

Opis:
Purpose: This paper focuses on the synthesis and comparison of hydrogel- and xerogel-based sorbents from EFB. Design/methodology/approach: Hydrogels were synthesised by polymerisation of EFB biochar with acrylamide (AAm) as a monomer, N, N'-Methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as cross-linker and ammonium persulfate (APS) as initiator, as well as by internal gelation method of sodium alginate, empty fruit bunch (EFB), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and glucono delta-lactone (GDL). From the alginate hydrogels obtained, xerogels were synthesised via the oven-drying method. Then, EFB-based hydrogel and xerogel sorbents were analysed and compared based on characterisation analysis by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer− Emmett−Teller (BET), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Findings: The xerogel-based EFB is a better adsorbent than the hydrogel-based EFB because it has a larger pore volume (0.001449 cm3/g), larger pore size (63.7987 nm), higher moisture content (7.97%), lower ash content (12.55%), and is more thermally stable. Research limitations/implications: The research is to compare two new adsorbents, namely Hydrogel and Xerogel, from EFB in terms of their characteristics. Practical implications: Both adsorbents show a highly toxic material uptake, especially EFB xerogel. This adsorbent is comparable with the other commercialised adsorbent. Thus, this product can be a highly potential adsorbent for gas and wastewater adsorption. Originality/value: The authenticity results of this article were found to be 15% similar. The novelty of this paper is to compare the two adsorbents, namely hydrogel and xerogel, that originated from EFB.

Opis:
Background: Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is a syndrome characterized by profound T-cell deficiency. BCG vaccine is contraindicated in patients with SCID. Because most countries encourage BCG vaccination at birth, a high percentage of patients with SCID are vaccinated before their immune defect is detected. Objectives: We sought to describe the complications and risks associated with BCG vaccination in patients with SCID. Methods: An extensive standardized questionnaire evaluating complications, therapeutics, and outcomes regarding BCG vaccination in patients given a diagnosis of SCID was widely distributed. Summary statistics and association analysis was performed. Results: Data on 349 BCG-vaccinated patients with SCID from 28 centers in 17 countries were analyzed. Fifty-one percent of the patients had BCG-associated complications, 34% disseminated and 17% localized (a 33,000- and 400-fold increase, respectively, over the general population). Patients receiving early vaccination (<_1 month) showed an increased prevalence of complications (P 5 .006) and death caused by BCG-associated complications (P < .0001). The odds of experiencing complications among patients with T-cell numbers of 250/mL or less at diagnosis was 2.1 times higher (95% CI, 1.4-3.4 times higher; P 5 .001) than among those with T-cell numbers of greater than 250/mL. BCG-associated complications were reported in 2 of 78 patients who received antimycobacterial therapy while asymptomatic, and no deaths caused by BCG-associated complications occurred in this group. In contrast, 46 BCG-associated deaths were reported among 160 patients treated with antimycobacterial therapy for a symptomatic BCG infection (P < .0001). Conclusions: BCG vaccine has a very high rate of complications in patients with SCID, which increase morbidity and mortality rates. Until safer and more efficient antituberculosis vaccines become available, delay in BCG vaccination should be considered to protect highly vulnerable populations from preventable complications. (

Opis:
The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research.
