Opis:
Recent developments in automation and technology have revolutionized the way products are made. It is directly seen in the evolution of part miniaturization in the sectors such as aerospace, electronics, biomedicine and medical implants. Micromachining is a promising technology to fulfill the need of miniaturization. A review has been done on the micromachining processes such as micro electric discharge machining (micro-EDM) and wire EDM (WEDM), micro electrochemical machining (micro-ECM). Recent literature were studied and categorized in terms of materials, process parameters, performances, product manufactured, and miniature product generation. Starting with brief introduction to micromachining, classifications and applications, technical aspects of discussions from the literature have been presented on key factors such as parameters and the response variables. Important aspects of recast layer, heat effected zone, micro-hardness, micro cracks, residual stress, etc., have been given. A special focus is given to the status of the research on microgear manufacturing. Comparison has been made between other conventional process suitable for micro-gear manufacturing and WEDM. The miniature gear machined by WEDM shows the defect-free microstructure, better surface finish, thin recast layer and improved gear quality parameters such as profile and pitch. Finally, the research gaps and future research directions have been presented.

Opis:
The present paper dealt with the annual dynamics of the absorption coefficient of chromophoric dissolved organic matter at 440 nm {aCDOM(440)} during February 2015 to January 2016 in the continental shelf of northern Bay of Bengal (nBoB) for the first time. Sea surface salinity (SSS), chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), total suspended matter (TSM) were also analyzed. It was hypothesized that CDOM should exhibit significant spatial and temporal variability in this region. aCDOM(440) and spectral slope ranged between 0.1002 m1—0.6631 m1 and 0.0071 nm1— 0.0229 nm1 respectively during the entire study period. Higher values of aCDOM(440) were observed in the near shore stations and gradually decreased towards the offshore. Significant seasonal variability of aCDOM(440) was observed between the monsoon and non-monsoon seasons ( p < 0.05). Thus the framed hypothesis was successfully accepted by means of the present study. The CDOM was mainly found to be of allochthonous character in this region. aCDOM(440) portrayed a significant negative linear relationship with SSS (R2 = 0.80; p < 0.05) implying conservative mixing of marine and terrestrial end members. However, examining the spatial variability of the relationship, it was observed that this relationship was significant only in the nearshore stations. While examining the seasonal variability of this relationship, it was found to be most significant during the monsoon (R2 = 0.81; p < 0.05). Thus it was inferred that whenever the SSS gradient was higher, the relationship between aCDOM(440) and SSS was found to be most significant.

Opis:
Some new dihydropyrano[c]chromenes derivatives are synthesized from 4-hydroxycoumarin. The structure of newly synthesized compounds was confirmed by mass, 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy. Further, antimicrobial screening of these synthesized compounds was done against some bacterial (Gram positive as well as Gram negative) and fungal strains in N,N-dimethylformamide. It is observed that some of synthesized compounds exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacterial strains. The selected fungal strains were most resistant for the studied compounds as none of the synthesized compounds showed activity against any of the fungal strain studied. The best antibacterial activity was shown by ABR-10.

Opis:
We show that the frequency distribution of the first significant digits of the numbers in the data sets generated from a large class of measures of quantum correlations, which are either entanglement measures or belong to the information-theoretic paradigm, exhibit a universal behavior. In particular, for Haar uniformly simulated arbitrary two-qubit states, we find that the first-digit distributions corresponding to a collection of chosen computable quantum correlation quantifiers tend to follow the first-digit law, known as Benford's law, when the rank of the states increases. Considering a two-qubit state which is obtained from a system governed by paradigmatic spin Hamiltonians, namely, the XY model in a transverse field, and the XXZ model, we show that entanglement as well as information-theoretic measures violate Benford's law. We quantitatively discuss the violation of Benford's law by using a violation parameter, and demonstrate that the violation parameter can signal quantum phase transitions occurring in these models. We also comment on the universality of the statistics of the first significant digits corresponding to appropriate measures of quantum correlations in the case of multipartite systems as well as systems in higher dimensions.

Opis:
Valence tautomerism in molecule-based f-block materials remains virtually elusive. As a result, the effects driving and controlling the valence conversion phenomenon are poorly understood. Herein, we unravel these fundamental factors by systematic chemical modification of a bona fide lanthanide coordination solid, SmI2(pyrazine)2(tetrahydrofuran), in which a complete, temperature-driven conversion between Sm(II) and Sm(III) occurs abruptly around 200 K. Solid solutions incorporating either divalent, diamagnetic metal ions or Sm(III) ions feature disparate behavior. Substitution with redox-inactive, divalent metal ions invariably leads to lower conversion temperatures and reduced cooperativity. In contrast, incorporation of redox-inactive Sm(III) ions leads to trapped pyrazine anion radicals in the ligand scaffold, shifting the valence tautomeric conversion phenomenon towards higher temperature with virtually no loss of cooperativity. These materials are rare examples of lanthanide–organic materials hosting mixed valency in both the lanthanide and organic scaffold, affording switchable conductivity associated with the valence tautomeric conversion.

Opis:
Bespoke van der Waals (vdW) crystals provide command over the confinement and transport of charge, spin, and heat within and between two-dimensional (2D) layers. We report a novel functionality in vdW crystals by actuating valence changes through molecular alloying. The net materials $Cr(pyrazine)_{2} Br_{2}$ and $Cr(pyrazine)_{2}I_{2}$ are aliovalent, hosting Cr(III) and Cr(II), respectively, due to disparate crystal field potentials. Pressurizing and thereby strengthening of the crystal field compresses the $Cr(pyrazine)_{2}I_{2}$ layers significantly, but no Cr valence change is induced. However, alloyed $Cr(pyrazine)_{2}I_{2−x}Br_{x}$ phases exhibit hysteretic and tunable Cr(II) ⇄ Cr(III) interconversions with concomitant charge injection into the net. The valence switch manifests drastic changes to the magnetization and the electrical conductivity, which varies by up to five orders of magnitude during the valence conversion. This use of coordination chemistry addresses a gap in vdW and 2D materials science, where electronic structure engineering via valence change events has remained elusive.
