Opis:
A scheduling problem in considered on unrelated machines with the goal of total late work minimization, in which the late work of a job means the late units executed after its due date. Due to the NP-hardness of the problem, we propose two meta-heuristic algorithms to solve it, namely, a tabu search (TS) and a genetic algorithm (GA), both of which are equipped with the techniques of initialization, iteration, as well as termination. The performances of the designed algorithms are verified through computational experiments, where we show that the GA can produce better solutions but with a higher time consumption. Moreover, we also analyze the influence of problem parameters on the performances of these metaheuristics.

We consider the scheduling problem on unrelated parallel machines in order to minimize the total late work. Since the problem is NP-hard, we propose a mathematical model and two dedicated exact approaches for solving it, based on the branching and bounding strategy and on enumerating combined with a dynamic programming algorithm. The time efficiencies of all three approaches are evaluated through computational experiments.

In this study, we investigate several online and semi-online scheduling problems related to two hierarchical machines with a common due date to maximize the total early work. For the pure online case, we design an optimal online algorithm with a competitive ratio of √2. Additionally, for the cases when the largest processing time is known, we give optimal algorithms with a competitive ratio of 6/5 if the largest job is a lower-hierarchy one, and of √5 − 1 if the largest job is a higher-hierarchy one.

Opis:
Obtaining the characteristics at a characteristic point of the outputs is a key step to the geomagnetic attitude measurement method of the spinning projectile. However, actual outputs usually have some noise that causes the characteristic points to deviate from the theoretical position or produce multiple fake characteristic points, resulting in the increase of solution error and even the failure of solution. In addition, the coning motion and inaccurate initial alignment of the spinning projectile increase the number of unknown parameters and the computational complexity. In this study, several improved particle swarm optimization strategies are proposed. The actual outputs are fitted to the geomagnetic output equations under the coning motion, and the supervised learning effect of each strategy is analysed and compared. The algorithm can be flexibly adjusted according to different needs in actual use by selecting appropriate strategies, which has a wide applicability in data fitting.

Opis:
Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), a keystone pathogen of chronic periodontitis, releases outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) that act as nanoscale vehicles to disseminate virulence factors within periodontal tissues and systemically beyond the oral cavity. Although Pg-OMVs are increasingly recognized as critical mediators of host–pathogen interactions, their effects on the differentiation and function of monocyte–macrophage/osteoclast lineage cells remain unclear. Here, we examined the impact of Pg-OMVs on the differentiation of RAW264.7 monocyte/macrophage-like cells into osteoclasts (OC) and/or macrophages (MΦ) in the presence of receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL). OMVs were isolated from Pg W83 and applied to RANKL-primed RAW264.7 cells using three distinct stimulation schedules: (1) simultaneous treatment with Pg-OMVs and RANKL at Day 0; (2) RANKL priming at Day 0 followed by Pg-OMV stimulation at Day 1; and (3) RANKL priming at Day 0 followed by Pg-OMV stimulation at Day 3. In all schedules, cells were cultured for 7 days from the initial RANKL exposure. Remarkably, simultaneous exposure to Pg-OMVs and RANKL (Schedule 1) markedly suppressed osteoclastogenesis (OC-genesis) while promoting M1 macrophage polarization. In contrast, delayed Pg-OMV stimulation of RANKL-primed cells (Schedules 2 and 3) significantly enhanced OC-genesis while reducing M1 polarization. These schedule-dependent effects were consistent with altered expression of osteoclastogenic markers, including dc-stamp, oc-stamp, nfatc1, and acp5. Importantly, a monoclonal antibody against OC-STAMP counteracted the Pg-OMV-induced upregulation of OC-genesis in Schedules 2 and 3. Furthermore, levels of Pg-OMV phagocytosis were inversely correlated with osteoclast formation. Finally, co-stimulation with RANKL and Pg-OMVs (Schedule 1) enhanced macrophage migratory capacity, whereas delayed stimulation with Pg-OMVs (Schedules 2 and 3) did not. Collectively, these findings indicate that Pg-OMVs exert stage-specific effects on the OC/MΦ lineage: stimulation at early stages of RANKL priming suppresses OC-genesis and promotes M1 polarization, whereas stimulation at later stages enhances OC-genesis without inducing M1 differentiation. Thus, Pg-OMVs may critically influence the fate of the OC/MΦ unit in periodontal lesions, contributing to disease progression and tissue destruction.

Opis:
The expressions for the elements of the on-axis and transverse generalized Stokes parameters of random electromagnetic quasi-homogeneous beams on propagation are presented and are used to study the polarization properties of the beams. Some typical numerical calculations of the on-axis and transverse Stokes parameters, polarization properties of the beams on propagation are illustrated. The results show that for different sources all the on-axis parameters are identical in the near field and keep fixed values in the far field. But the transverse parameters are affected greatly by the properties of the source even in the near field. We have also found that the spatial profiles of the transverse parameters remain unchanged upon propagation.

The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research.

Opis:
Based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel principle, variations in generalized Stokes parameters of stochastic anisotropic electromagnetic beams propagating through modified non-Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence have been analyzed. The changes in generalized Stokes parameters with different turbulence parameters and source parameters were analyzed first. After that, the distributions of the spectral degrees of cross-polarization (SDCP) of isotropic beams and anisotropic beams were simulated. The results show that the profiles of distribution of SDCP of these two kinds of beams are very different in the near field, and will fluctuate through the propagation in atmospheric turbulence, but at last, when the propagation distance is long enough, the difference in the source makes a slight difference in the final profiles of SDCP in the output plane. They mainly depended on the turbulence perturbation, and in the weak turbulence, the profiles of final distribution show more flatter features.

Opis:
A robust dual color images watermarking algorithm is designed based on quaternion discrete fractional angular transform (QDFrAT) and genetic algorithm. To guarantee the watermark security, the original color watermark image is encrypted with a 4D hyperchaotic system. A pure quaternion matrix is acquired by performing the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), the block division and the discrete cosine transform on the original color cover image. The quaternion matrix is operated by the QDFrAT to improve the robustness and the security of the watermarking scheme with the optimal transform angle and the fractional order. Then the singular value matrix is obtained by the quaternion singular value decomposition (QSVD) to further enhance the scheme’s stability. The encryption watermark is also processed by DWT and QSVD. Afterward, the singular value matrix of the encryption watermark is embedded into the singular value matrix of the host image by the optimal scaling factor. Moreover, the values to balance imperceptibility and robustness are optimized with a genetic algorithm. It is shown that the proposed color image watermarking scheme performs well in imperceptibility, security, robustness and embedding capacity.
