Opis:
Poland’s accession to the EU in May 2004 brought many new possibilities and opportunities for Polish migrants to Britain. In the period from May 2004 to June 2008, over 500,000 Poles registered with the Workers Registration Scheme as employees in Britain. One unforeseen consequence of this rapid increase in migration was the large numbers of Polish children arriving in British schools. According to office government statistics, there are over 26,000 school pupils in England whose first language is Polish (DCFS, Schools Census, 2008). Schools are not only places of education but also sites of socialisation and interaction. Social norms, values and expectations are taught and learned through both the formal and informal curriculum – in the classroom, playground and at the school gates (Adams and Kirova, 2006). For newly arrived migrant children and their parents school may be the place where they encounter the diversity of the host society in all its complexity and newness. While school may be regarded as a safe place of learning, it can also be daunting and confusing. Conversations at the school gates may provide parents with a valuable opportunity to acquire new information and make friends (Ryan, 2007). However, school can also be associated with culture clashes, negative stereotypes, feelings of isolation and even racist bullying. Thus, for newly arrived migrant children and their parents, school provides an array of opportunities and challenges. In this paper we explore these issues drawing on our research with Polish migrants in London (Ryan et al, 2007; 2008) and on Polish children in London primary schools (Sales, et al, 2008). Based on interviews with parents and teachers at 4 London primary schools, as well as some additional data from Polish children, we explore processes of adaptation, accommodation, negotiation and identity formation. In particular, we analyse the ways in which Polish migrants construct notions of Polishness in the context of education.

Opis:
The innovation and modernization processes of national public administrations feature prominently in the process of digital transition that the whole Europe is going through. In Italy, the National Institute of Social Security (Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale, INPS) has historically always been at the forefront in terms of digital skills and the use of Information Technology for the provision of social security services, constituting a model of excellence in the landscape of public administrations both in Italy and Europe. INPS is currently facing a strategic challenge: that of constituting the driving force for the digital transition of the Italian public sector. To meet this challenge, the Italian Social Security Institute has equipped itself with an ICT (information and communications technology) Plan that represents a marked discontinuity with respect to past plans and which deserves, as a result of its innovative character, to be analyzed in detail. In particular, the ICT Strategic Plan of INPS for the three-year period of 2020−2022 aims to introduce a paradigm shift towards the digitization of the public services that the Social Security Institute offers to the whole country, planning a radical technological, organizational and cultural innovation, an enabling prerequisite for creating a new model service for citizens, businesses and other public administrations.
Plan uwzględnia radykalne nowoczesne rozwiązania technologiczne, organizacyjne i kulturowe, umożliwiające stworzenie nowego modelu usług dla obywateli, przedsiębiorstw i innych organów administracji publicznej.

Opis:
8-Hydroxy-2-[2-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)ethenyl]-7-quinoline carboxylic acid and 8-hydroxy-2-[2-(3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)ethenyl]-7-quinoline carboxylic acid inhibit the processing and strand transfer reactions catalyzed by HIV-1 integrase with an IC50 of 2 μM. Some of their spectral properties are briefly reported. Their fluorescence is so weak that it is of no use in an experimental determination of the binding to the protein and we resorted to computer simulation. Both styrylquinoline derivatives, in their monoanionic form, have several dozens of tautomers and each of these forms has four planar rotamers. In this work computer simulations have been performed to determine which tautomer is the most abundant in aqueous solution and which binds to the Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) integrase catalytic core. As the substituents on the quinoline moiety are the same as on salicylic acid, the energies of hydroxy benzoic acid tautomers were also computed both in vacuo and embedded in a continuous medium which had the dielectric constant of bulk water, using the recent CPCM technique. The CPCM method was then applied to the two integrase inhibitors to estimate the tautomer population in water. The binding site of the compounds on the RSV integrase catalytic core was determined through a docking protocol, consisting of coupling a grid search method with full energy minimization. The designed method is a way leading to identification of potent integrase inhibitors using in silico experiments.

Opis:
Recently $ZnWO_4$ was proposed as perspective material for low-counting experiments to search for rare processes. Such experiments demand high radiopurity of $ZnWO_4$ crystal scintillators. With this aim radioactive contamination of large volume (0.1-0.7 kg) $ZnWO_4$ crystal scintillators were measured in the underground Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso of the INFN at the depth of ≈ 3600 m water equivalent.

Opis:
The very low radioactive background of the Borexino detector, its large size, and the well proved capability to detect both low energy electron neutrinos and antineutrinos make an ideal case for the study of short distance neutrino oscillations with artificial sources at Gran Sasso. This paper describes the possible layouts of $^{51}Cr(v_{e})$ and $^{144}Ce-^{144}Pr(\bar{v}_{e})$ source experiments in Borexino and shows the expected sensitivity to eV mass sterile neutrinos for three possible different phases of the experiment. Expected results on neutrino magnetic moment, electroweak mixing angle, and couplings to axial and vector currents are shown too.

Opis:
The search for neutrino events in correlation with gravitational wave (GW) events for three observing runs (O1, O2 and O3) from 09/2015 to 03/2020 has been performed using the Borexino data-set of the same period. We have searched for signals of neutrino-electron scattering and inverse beta-decay (IBD) within a time window of $\pm$ 1000 centered at the detection moment of a particular GW event. The search was done with three visible energy thresholds of 0.25, 0.8 and 3.0 MeV. Two types of incoming neutrino spectra were considered: the mono-energetic line and the supernova-like spectrum. GW candidates originated by merging binaries of black holes (BHBH), neutron stars (NSNS) and neutron star and black hole (NSBH) were analyzed separately. Additionally, the subset of most intensive BHBH mergers at closer distances and with larger radiative mass than the rest was considered. In total, follow-ups of 74 out of 93 gravitational waves reported in the GWTC-3 catalog were analyzed and no statistically significant excess over the background was observed. As a result, the strongest upper limits on GW-associated neutrino and antineutrino fluences for all flavors ($v_{e}, v_{\mu}, v_{\tau}$) at the level $10^{9} - 10^{15} cm^{-2} GW^{-1}$ have been obtained in the 0.5–5 MeV neutrino energy range.
