Opis:
Synthetic and natural polymers blends represent a new brand of materials with application in wound healing, scaffolds or drug delivery systems. Polycaprolactone/gelatin (PCL/Gt) blends were analyzed in terms of their miscibility. The PCL structure was investigated as a function of Gt content. Changes in the PCL spherulitic structure with Gt content were investigated by a polarizing-interference microscope. The analysis of the glass transition temperature (Tg) of both components as a function of PCL/Gt ratio by differential scanning calorimetry indicates that the system of polycaprolactone/gelatin belongs to a type of s.c. compatible system, being intermediate between miscible and immiscible systems. There is possibility of very limited miscibility of both components. Supplementary wide angle X-ray scattering results are presented.

Opis:
Understanding the role of communication promoted by Ibero-American society during the Coronavirus pandemic is fundamental for building knowledge about the disease. In this scenario, Instagram occupies a privileged place, as it carries a diversity of possible languages. Furthermore, Instagram’s relevance in the social media landscape is growing. This article presents, from a study developed through big data analysis procedures, the first result of several that make up an international investigation on the subject. In the project stage, the quantitative volume of publications, the average publication per user and the participation of the different languages used in this analysis group were verified. It is hoped that further investigations can be developed based on the results presented here, especially due to the urgency of knowing the role of communication in the pandemic scenario in which we live.

Opis:
Novel polyurethanes based on synthetic, atactic poly[(R, S)-3-hydroxybutyrate] (a-PHB) and polycaprolactone (PCL) or polyoxytetramethylene (PTMG) diols were synthesized. It was shown that the presence of a-PHB within soft segments reduces crystallinity of PUR. Because of the low melting temperature for polyurethanes with PCL in soft segments, at this stage of work, electrospinning was limited to polyurethanes containing PTMG and a-PHB. Polyurethane containing 80% of PTMG and 20% of a-PHB was electrospun at various parameters from hexafluoro-2-propanole solution, resulting in formation of fibers with the average diameter ca. 2 μm. The fiber diameter decreased with decreasing polymer concentration in a solution and was practically insensitive to the needle-collector distance in the applied range of distances.

Opis:
In this study using methods of Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) the special characteristics of formation and architecture of thin films coatings based on natural polysaccharides chitosan and pectin were investigated. A layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition technique for assembling of oppositely charged layers was used. The main factors, which have an influence on the process of thin film formation and molecular structure of these coatings, were investigated.

Opis:
With the increasing amounts of recombinant proteins production the problem of effective purification of produced proteins became one of major topics for research nowadays. Affinity chromatography proved to be the most dominant method for this aim and application of chitin based affinity sorbents in combination with use of chitin-binding domain as an affinity tag for purification of recombinant proteins showed its efficiency even in comparison with commercially available systems.

Opis:
We studied the diversity of heterotrophic flagellates from the sandy sediments of the Yangtze River, sandy and silty sediments of Donghu Lake, soil, moss and litter from the Luojiashan and Moshan hills as well as litter from the floodplain near Donghu Lake in April 2010. Sixty-seven heterotrophic flagellate species were identified by means of phase and interference contrast light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The majority of the observed flagellates were bacterivorous. Local species richness of river sediment communities was significantly lower than that of lake sediments and terrestrial habitats. The communities from the terrestrial habitats were more heterogeneous than those from freshwater sediments. Common species for the aquatic habitats were Rhynchomonas nasuta, Paraphysomonas sp., Neobodo designis, N. curvifilis, Bodo saltans and Spumella spp. In the soils only Spumella spp. was found in the majority of samples. Most characteristic taxa for the lake sediments were Helkesimastix faecicola, Petalomonas minuta, P. pusilla, Diphylleia rotans, Amastigomonas caudata. Amoeboflagellates such as Cercomonas angustus, C. granulifera, Paracercomonas crassicauda were specific for the terrestrial habitats. There were no specific taxa in the river sediments. The majority of the heterotrophic flagellates identified in this survey have been noted in China earlier. They are common (and usually predominant) for other regions in both freshwater and soil habitats.

Opis:
Novel cryogels based on pectin and chitosan were obtained by a cryotropic gelation method. Percentage of chitosan in the cryogels was estimated by elemental analysis. The obtained values were from 3.50 to 15.03 % for Apple pectin/Chitosan cryogels and from 9.44 to 17.64 % for Heracleum pectin/Chitosan cryogels. Internal structure and porosity of the cryogels were measured by scanning electron microscopy. According to the scanning electron microscopy, cryogels have a macroporous sheet-like structure. In the future, cryogels can be used in biotechnology and medicine as biocompatible, biodegradable materials.

Opis:
The paper presents results of numerical calculations and experimental data on the directional pattern of two 38-element parametric arrays composed of ultrasound sources. Two types of antenna arrays are considered, namely with parallel and coaxial connections of ultrasonic transducers (elements). The results of selecting and functional testing of unit elements are described in this paper. It is found that in the coaxial element connection of the antenna array, the level of side lobes is higher than that in the paralel element connection.
