Opis:
Hydromagnetic flow of water based nanofluids over a nonlinearly stretching sheet in the presence of velocity slip, temperature jump, magnetic field, nonlinear thermal radiation, thermophoresis and Brownian motion has been studied. The article focuses on Cu water nanofluid and Ag water nanofluid. The similarity transformation technique is adopted to reduce the governing nonlinear partial differential equations into nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then they are solved numerically utilizing the Nachistem – Swigert shooting method along with the fourth order Runge Kutta integration technique. The influence of physical parameters on the flow, temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction are presented through graphs. Also the values of the skin friction coefficient at the wall and nondimensional rate of heat transfer are given in a tabular form. A comparative study with previous published results is also made.

Opis:
Forced convective heat and mass transfer flow of hydromagnetic, radiating and dissipative fluid over a porous nonlinear stretching sheet in the presence of non-uniform heat generation/absorption is investigated numerically. The system of nonlinear partial differential equations governing the physical problem is reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by means of suitable similarity transformations and are solved numerically using Nachtsheim Swigert shooting iteration scheme together with fourth order Runge Kutta method. The effects of various physical parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration distributions are depicted graphically. The important findings of this study exhibited that the effect of non-uniform heat generation/absorption parameter and radiation parameter have significant role in controlling thermal boundary layer thickness and temperature. Numerical values of the skin friction coefficient, temperature and concentration at the wall are shown in a tabula form. A comparison is made with previously published data which results in good agreement.

Opis:
Pollution caused by road transportation is the major factor affecting human health and adversely affecting the global warming. In the study, a system dynamics model has been applied to forecast vehicle emissions from road transport to evaluate policies in the transportation management. The proposed model was applied to evaluate and compare three transportation policy scenarios including road expansion, public transit incentive and enforcement of quality norms for vehicles. The pollution emission data is taken in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The pollution in the study area will increase substantially if no management plans are implemented. The impact of population increase on transportation pollution has also been considered. It was found that among the proposed policies, implementation of the transit incentive policy to adopt public transports and the implementation of Bharat Stage IV norms for vehicles proved to be efficient in reducing the transport pollution to a great extent.

Opis:
In this paper, an investigation is made to analyze the effects of radiation on an MHD boundary layer flow and heat transfer over a nonlinear stretching surface with variable wall temperature and non-uniform heat source/sink. A suitable similarity transformation is used to transform the governing nonlinear partial differential equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using the Nachtsheim Swigert shooting iteration technique together with the fourth order Runge Kutta method. The effects of various physical parameters over a dimensionless velocity and dimensionless temperature are presented graphically. The numerical results for the skin friction co-efficient and non-dimensional rate of heat transfer are presented and discussed for several sets of values of the parameters. Comparisons of numerical results are made with the earlier published results under limiting cases.

Opis:
Biological control of plant diseases is strongly emerging as an effective alternative to the use of chemical pesticides and fungicides. Stress tolerance is an important attribute in the selection of bacteria for the development of microbial inoculants. Fourteen salt-tolerant bacteria showing different morphological features isolated from the rhizosphere of maize were evaluated for different plant growth-promoting activities. All isolates showed auxin production ranging from 5 to 24 μg ⋅ ml–1 after 48 h incubation in tryptophan supplemented media. Phosphate solubilization ranged from 15 to 419 μg ⋅ ml–1. 1-aminocycloproprane- 1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity was shown by 6 isolates, ammonia production by 9 isolates, siderophore production by 8 isolates while HCN production by 4 isolates. Four bacterial isolates with all plant growth-promoting properties also showed strong antagonistic activities against Fusarium oxysporum, F. verticillioides, Curvularia lunata and Alternaria alternata and abiotic stress tolerance against salinity, temperature, pH and calcium salts. Two selected bacterial isolates significantly enhanced the growth of pea and maize test plants under greenhouse conditions. The bacterial isolate M1B2, which showed the highest growth promotion of test plants, was identified as Bacillus sp. based on phenotypic and 16S rDNA gene sequencing. The results indicated that Bacillus sp. M1B2 is a potential candidate for the development of microbial inoculants in stressful environments.

This study aims to identify the lignicolous basidiomycetes species that synthetize volatile organic compounds with potential applications in food industry, cosmetics, perfumery and agriculture. We have collected fruiting bodies from different woody plants and the lignicolous basidiomyctes species were identified by their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. From the context of the fresh fruiting bodies small fragments of dikaryotic mycelium were extracted and inoculated on PDA and MEA media for isolation and pure cultures are kept in dark at a temperature of 25°C. 11 species of lignicolous basidiomycetes, belonging to 6 families and 5 orders were isolated in pure culture. The isolates were analyzed in vitro and the main characteristics that were observed are: the general aspect of the surface and the reverse of the colonies, the changing in colour and the growth rate of the mycelium and also the specific odour which indicates the presence of the organic volatile compounds. for the first time lignicolous fungi like Flavodon flavus (Klotz.) Ryv., Ganoderma lucidum(Curtis) P. Karst, Hexagonia apiaria (Pers.) Fr., Lenzites betulina (L.) Fr. Lenzites eximia Berk. & M.A. Curtis, Lenzites sterioides (Fr.) Ryv., Navisporus floccosus (Bres.) Ryv., Phellinus gilvus (Schwein.) Pat., and Trametes pini (Thore) Britzelm. were producing characteristic smell that indicates presence of Volatile organic compounds. For the first time from Gujarat, India the Volatile organic compound producing fungi were identified and their culture characters also described.

Opis:
As the urgency to reduce carbon emission increases, seagrass ecosystems have recently received attention due to their capacity to take up and store high amounts of carbon. Protection of this ecosystem is key to increase resilience to climate change. However, in some of the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), seagrass ecosystems are still under threat. This study aims to investigate the current condition of seagrass ecosystems and compare it to the previous study before MPA was established in the Berau coastal water. SeagrassWatch method was used to measure seagrass community structure. Other proxies were also used to explain factors affecting seagrass condition such as total suspended solid (TSS) and sedimentary stable isotopes to identify the source of organic carbon. The percentage cover of seagrass in this study were categorized as not healthy (<29–59.9%), which was statistically related to TSS. The higher TSS resulted in the lower seagrass cover, as observed in the Rabu Rabu island located adjacent to mainland. Changes in seagrass composition were observed, including the emergence of larger species of E. acoroides and T. hemprichii in the islands located adjacent to mainland. The spatial and temporal changes of seagrass ecosystems observed in Berau MPA should be taken into consideration that conservation on seagrass ecosystems needs to be prioritized by improving the MPA function to avoid further loss of carbon from seagrass ecosystems.

Opis:
Core-collapse supernovae are among the most magnificent events in the observable universe. They produce many of the chemical elements necessary for life to exist and their remnants—neutron stars and black holes—are interesting astrophysical objects in their own right. However, despite millennia of observations and almost a century of astrophysical study, the explosion mechanism of core-collapse supernovae is not yet well understood. Hyper-Kamiokande is a next-generation neutrino detector that will be able to observe the neutrino flux from the next galactic core-collapse supernova in unprecedented detail. We focus on the first 500 ms of the neutrino burst, corresponding to the accretion phase, and use a newly-developed, high-precision supernova event generator to simulate Hyper-Kamiokande's response to five different supernova models. We show that Hyper-Kamiokande will be able to distinguish between these models with high accuracy for a supernova at a distance of up to 100 kpc. Once the next galactic supernova happens, this ability will be a powerful tool for guiding simulations toward a precise reproduction of the explosion mechanism observed in nature.

Opis:
The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research.
