Opis:
W artykule opisano częstotliwość i sposoby wykorzystania kamery termowizyjnej w działaniach taktycznych na terenie wybranej jednostki ratowniczej gaśniczej Państwowej Straży Pożarnej. Przedstawiono termogramy i fotografie wykonane w trakcie rzeczywistych działań gaśniczych. Ilustrują one przykłady, w których kamera przyczyniła się do szybkiej i precyzyjnej oceny sytuacji pożarowej, pozwoliła w warunkach silnego zadymienia wykryć pęknięcie ściany nośnej budynku, stwarzającego zagrożenie dla ratowników, pozwoliła zmniejszyć do niezbędnego minimum zużycie kosztownego środka gaśniczego. Dokonano oceny jakości sprzętu termowizyjnego i sposobów jego wykorzystywania.
The paper presents some examples of using thermal cameras in fire fighting. It includes descriptions of using thermal cameras in fire fighting actions. Cameras enable running identification of the situation with higher precision. All the factors improve the fire fighting action, let the firefighters get to the source of fire more quickly, increase level of firefighters security, enable lowering the usage of extinguishing agents and reducing losses caused by using those agents. The literature includes many examples of using thermovision in safety engineering but there are no original works on real fire fighting actions. The paper presents thermograms and photographs taken during real fire fighting actions. They illustrate example actions where the camera contributed to quick and precise assessment of fire situation. It also allowed for detecting a crack in the supporting wall of the building that posed a risk for the rescuers in extremely smoky conditions. The camera allowed for minimizing the usage of expensive extinguishing agent as well (Figs. 1, 2, 3). The paper presents frequency and ways of using a thermal camera during tactical actions run by a particular rescue and firefighting unit of the State Fire Service. There are also some comments on functional advantages of thermal cameras included in the State Fire Service equipment that prove the decision of enquiring the cameras was right. These cameras are observational ones (in colour) with the ability of measuring temperature at one point. The cameras are easy to operate, they have been adopted for fire conditions and their indications are adequate enough. Their usefulness is highly appreciated by firefighters. Thermal cameras should be part of the Volunteer Fire Departments because their units usually come first to the fire especially in the countryside. Thermal cameras are especially useful at the beginning of fire fighting actions.

Opis:
W pracy opisano zdolność bakterii do usuwania odorów ze środowiska kompostu. Spośród 19 badanych drobnoustrojów wytypowano 6 szczepów najefektywniej usuwających lotne związki odorowe. Należały do nich: Pseudomonas sp., Flavobacterium sp., Bacillus megaterium, Staphylococcus lentus, Bacillus licheniformis, Lactobacillus delbrueckii. Z powyższych mikroorganizmów stworzono aktywny biopreparat w postaci zawiesiny wodnej i liofilizatu.
In this study the ability of microorganisms to remove selected odorous substances from compost was investigated. Six strains out of 19 selected bacteria were capable to remove volatile odorous substances: Pseudomonas sp., Flavobacterium sp, Bacillus megaterium, Staphylococcus lentus, Bacillus licheniformis, Lactobacillus delbrueckii. These organisms were then used to create biopreparation in a form of water suspension and lyophilizate. Spectrophotometric analysis was performed to calculate the reduction of volatile fatty acids and sulfides. Moreover, di- and trimethylamine, ammonia, isobutyric acid and hydrogen sulfide were determined by chromatographic methods (GLC). All investigated odorous compounds were successfully (7.5-53.1%) reduced by monocultures of selected microorganisms. The biopreparations were less effective than monocultures as only 17.7-27.7% and 8.7-15.1% reduction by liquid suspension and lyophilizate, respectively, was noted. It was concluded that biopreparation in the form of suspension can be potentially applied for the removal of volatile odorous compounds from compost.

Opis:
Recently, two forms of virtue-related humor, benevolent and corrective, have been introduced. Benevolent humor treats human weaknesses and wrongdoings benevolently, while corrective humor aims at correcting and bettering them. Twelve marker items for benevolent and corrective humor (the BenCor) were developed, and it was demonstrated that they fill the gap between humor as temperament and virtue. The present study investigates responses to the BenCor from 25 samples in 22 countries (overall N = 7,226). The psychometric properties of the BenCor were found to be sufficient in most of the samples, including internal consistency, unidimensionality, and factorial validity. Importantly, benevolent and corrective humor were clearly established as two positively related, yet distinct dimensions of virtue-related humor. Metric measurement invariance was supported across the 25 samples, and scalar invariance was supported across six age groups (from 18 to 50+ years) and across gender. Comparisons of samples within and between four countries (Malaysia, Switzerland, Turkey, and the UK) showed that item profiles were more similar within than between countries, though some evidence for regional differences was also found. This study thus supported, for the first time, the suitability of the 12 marker items of benevolent and corrective humor in different countries, enabling a cumulative cross-cultural research and eventually applications of humor aiming at the good.

Opis:
Benevolent and corrective humor are two comic styles that have been related to virtue, morality, and character strengths. A previous study also supported the viability of measuring these two styles with the BenCor in 22 countries. The present study extends the previous one by including further countries (a total of 25 countries in 29 samples with N = 7813), by testing the revised BenCor (BenCor-R), and by adding two criterion measures to assess life satisfaction and four broad humor dimensions (social fun/entertaining humor, mockery, humor ineptness, and cognitive/reflective humor). As expected, the BenCor-R showed mostly promising psychometric properties (internal consistency and factorial validity). Consistent with previous studies, benevolent humor correlated positively with life satisfaction in most countries, while corrective humor was uncorrelated with life satisfaction. These relationships were only slightly changed when controlling for social fun/entertaining humor and mockery, respectively. Benevolent humor was mostly positively associated with cognitive/reflective humor, followed by social fun/entertaining humor and mockery. Corrective humor was mostly positively associated with mockery, followed by cognitive/reflective and social fun/entertaining humor, although these relationships differed between the countries. Overall, the present study supports the viability of benevolent and corrective humor, which has yet received insufficient attention in psychology, for cross-cultural investigations and applications of humor, well-being, and morality.
