Opis:
In order to investigate the influence of vertical ground motion on seismic responses of story-isolation structures mounted on triple friction pendulum (TFP) bearings, the finite element model of a six-story building with various types of interlayer isolation TFP bearings under far field or near fault ground motions is established and analysed. A discrepancy rate function of peak interlayer shear, acceleration and displacement results is adopted to discuss the influence of the vertical seismic motions on isolation structural responses. Furthermore, the isolation form, the isolation period and the friction coefficient of bearings are changed to study their effect on the vertical seismic component’s influence. The results show that the influence of the vertical seismic component is considerable on the isolation layer especially under near-fault ground motions, so it should not be overlooked during the structural design; The change of isolation forms will greatly affect the influence of the vertical seismic component especially in the isolation layer and isolation systems with isolation devices set on higher stories or with less isolation layers will have less vertical seismic effect on story acceleration; The increase of the isolation period will globally result in the decrease of the influence of vertical seismic components, though in some cases it shows some sort of fluctuation before the final decrease; The increase of the friction coefficient will lead to the global decrease in the influence of the vertical seismic component in single-layer isolation structures, while it does not obviously affect those in the multi-layer isolation systems.

Opis:
Automatically controlled hydraulic tension systems adjust the tension force of a conveyor belt under different working conditions. Failures of an automatically controlled hydraulic tension system influence the performance of conveyor belts. At present, the maintenance of automatically controlled hydraulic tension systems mainly considers the replacement of components when failures occur. Considering the maintenance cost and downtime, it is impossible to repair all the failed components to improve the hydraulic tension system. One of the key problems is selecting the most valuable components for preventive maintenance. In this paper, preventive maintenance for multiple components in a hydraulic tension system is analyzed. An index is proposed to select more reliable preventive maintenance components to replace the original ones. A case study is given to demonstrate the proposed method. When the cost budget increases, there are three different variations in the number of components for selective preventive maintenance (SPM).

Opis:
When the machine is at high speed, serious problems occur, such as high frequency loss, difficult thermal management, and the rotor structural strength insufficiency. In this paper, the performances of two high-speed permanent magnet generators (HSPMGs) with different rotational speeds and the same torque are compared and analyzed. The two-dimensional finite element model (FEM) of the 117 kW, 60 000 rpm HSPMG is established. By comparing a calculation result and test data, the accuracy of the model is verified. On this basis, the 40 kW, 20 000 rpm HSPMG is designed and the FEM is established. The relationship between the voltage regulation sensitivity and power factor of the two HSPMGs is determined. The influence mechanism of the voltage regulation sensitivity is further revealed. In addition, the air-gap flux density is decomposed by the Fourier transform principle, and the influence degree of different harmonic orders on the HSPMG performance is determined. The method to reduce the harmonic content is further proposed. Finally, the method to improve the HSPMG overload capacity is obtained by studying the maximum power. The research showed that the HSPMG at low speed (20 000 rpm) has high sensitivity of the voltage regulation, while the HSPMG at high speed (60 000 rpm) is superior to the HSPMG at low speed in reducing the harmonic content and increasing the overload capacity.

Opis:
An acidic α-galactosidase designated as hemp seed α-galactosidase (HSG) was purified from hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) seeds. By means of chromatographic procedures which involved chromatography on the cation-exchangers CM-cellulose and SP-Sepharose, chromatography on the anion-exchangers DEAE-cellulose and Q-Sepharose, and gel filtration on Superdex 75 using fast protein liquid chromatography, HSG was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity. Results of SDS-PAGE and gel filtration on FPLC Superdex 75 revealed that the enzyme was a monomeric protein with a molecular weight of 38 kDa. Sequences of the inner peptides of the α-galactosidase obtained by MALDI-TOF-MS showed that HSG was a novel α-galactosidase since there was a little similarity to the majority of α-galactosidases recorded in the literature. A pH of 3.0 and a temperature of 50°C were optimal for the activity of the enzyme. The activity of HSG was inhibited by the chemical modification with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) reagent. HSG contained 16 tryptophan residues and two tryptophan residues on the surface, which were crucial to the α-galactosidase activity. The heavy metal ions Cd2+, Cu2+, Hg2+ and Zn2+ inhibited its activity. The Km and Vmax for the hydrolysis of pNPGal (4-nitrophenyl α-D-galactopyranoside) were respectively 0.008 mM and 68 μM min-1 mg-1. HSG also catalyzed the hydrolysis of raffinose and other natural substrates. Hence the α-galactosidase possesses a tremendous potential for food and feed industries in the elimination of indigestible oligosaccharides from leguminous products.

Opis:
The prediction of PM2.5 is important for environmental forecasting and air pollution control. In this study, four machine learning methods, ground-based LiDAR data and meteorological data were used to predict the ground-level PM2.5 concentrations in Beijing. Among the four methods, the random forest (RF) method was the most effective in predicting ground-level PM2.5 concentrations. Compared with BP neural network, support vector machine (SVM), and various linear fitting methods, the accuracy of the RF method was superior by 10%. The method can describe the spatial and temporal variation in PM2.5 concentrations under different meteorological conditions, with low root mean square error (RMSE) and mean square deviation (MD), and the consistency index (IA) reached 99.69%. Under different weather conditions, the hourly variation in PM2.5 concentrations has a good descriptive ability. In this paper, we analyzed the weights of input variables in the RF method, constructed a pollution case to correspond to the relationship between input variables and PM2.5, and analyzed the sources of pollutants via HYSPLIT backward trajectory. This method can study the interaction between PM2.5 and air pollution variables, and provide new ideas for preventing and forecasting air pollution.

Opis:
The electrical neutralization ability of polyaluminum chlorides (PACls) with respect to humic acid was investigated by the fluorescence quenching method. The Stern–Volmer constant (Kq) at various pH and coagulation doses was determined for polyaluminum chlorides (PACl-B) of various basicities (B, B = [OH]/[Al]). The experimental results show that under acidic conditions, the order of Kqvalues of PACl-B is PACl-2.5 > PACl-2.3 > PACl-1.5 > AlCl3. In solutions of pH = 7, the order of Kqvalues is PACl-1.5 > PACl-2.3 > PACl-2.5 > AlCl3. When pH > 7, aluminum ions are rapidly hydrolyzed, thus PACls of various basicities generally do not show capacity for electrical neutralization with humic acid. At pH = 6, all PACls-B obtain the maximum Kq values, indicating that humic acid and PACl-Bcoagulation process is less affected by H+ or OH ions, and produces the best electrical neutralization ability. Compared to the past method of using surface potential as a means of determining the ability of neutralization of coagulation, the results of this study show that the Kq value of the quenching effect can reduce the experiment complexity.

Opis:
Slow positron annihilation spectroscopy, contact angle and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were employed to investigate the surface polarity and morphologies as functions of aging time in acrylic coatings during UV-a irradiation. The S parameter plots of each exposed sample are lower than that of the virgin sample in the whole range of E. The S parameter plots become lower as the exposing longer time, indicated that the irradiation generated more polar groups and increased the oxidation layer depth. Combined with surface morphology and the surface energy of acrylic coating, the variation of contact angle, and surface energy, polar component and dispersive component is related with surface polarity and morphologies.

A series of isostructural octanuclear lanthanide complexes of general formula [Ln 8 (sao) 4 (μ 3 -OH) 4 - (NO 3 ) 12 (DMF) 12 ] (Ln = Nd ( 1 ), Sm ( 2 ), Eu ( 3 ), Gd ( 4 ), Tb ( 5 ), Dy ( 6 ), Ho ( 7 ), Er ( 8 ); DMF = dimethylform- amide) have been prepared via reactions of salicylaldoxime (saoH 2 ), tetramethylammonium hydroxide (Me 4 NOH) with the appropriate lanthanide nitrate salt (Ln(NO 3 ) 3 ·6H 2 O). The metallic skeletons of the complexes describe [Ln 4 ] tetrahedra encapsulated inside a [Ln 4 ] square with the inner core stabilised through μ 3 -OH − ions and the periphery by μ 4 -sao 2 − ligands. The magnetic properties of compounds 2 – 8 were investigated by dc and ac magnetometry. Temperature dependent ac magnetic sus- ceptibility data reveal that the dysprosium analogue ( 6 ) displays an out-of-phase signal in the absence of an applied magnetic fi eld indicative of slow relaxation of the magnetization typical of a Single-Molecule Magnet (SMM). Micro-SQUID measurements reveal temperature and sweep rate dependent hysteresis below 1.0 K.

Opis:
Direct and indirect effects of crustacean zooplankton (cladocerans and copepods) are important regulators of ciliate communities, especially in eutrophic systems. However, it is not clear whether pseudodiaptomids (e.g., Schmackeria), one of the dominant calanoid copepods in Chinese lakes, effectively impacts natural ciliate communities. The impacts of small-bodied cladocerans (e.g., Bosmina) on ciliates are also controversial. We performed an incubation experiment using winter lake water from Lake Chaohu to assess the structuring effects that crustacean zooplankton have on natural ciliate populations. The presence and absence of cladocerans (Bosmina sp.) and copepods (Schmackeria inopinus) were alternated in four treatments. Both Bosmina sp. and Schmackeria inopinus had substantial impacts on ciliate abundance, biomass, and community structure. The response of ciliates was different in the presence of Bosmina sp. compared with Schmackeria inopinus and varied among categories such as the ciliate population, relative body size and functional feeding group. Our results also highlight the importance of interference and exploitative competition among metazooplankton groups.

Opis:
Purpose: Atherosclerosis causes plaque to build-up in arteries. Effect of the specific local hemodynamic environment around an atherosclerotic plaque on the thrombosis formation does not remain quite clear but is believed to be crucial. The aim of this study is to uncover the flow effects on plaques formation. Methods: To study the mechanically regulated plaque formation, the flow fields in artery blood vessels with different stenosis rates at various Reynolds numbers were simulated numerically with the two-dimensional axisymmetric models, and the hemodynamic characteristics around the plaque were scaled with stenosis rate and Reynolds number. Results: The results showed that increases of both Reynolds number and stenosis rate facilitated the occurrence of flow separation phenomenon, extended recirculation zone, and upregulated the maximum normalized wall shear stress near the plaque throat section while downregulated the minimal normalized wall shear stress at the front shoulder of plaque, as it should be; in the atherosclerotic plaque leeside of the recirculation zone, an obvious catch bond region of wall shear stress might exist especially under low Reynolds number with stenosis rate smaller than 30%. This catch bond region in the plaque leeside might be responsible for the LBF (low blood flow)-enhanced formation of the atherosclerotic plaque. Conclusions: This work may provide a novel insight into understanding the biomechanical effects behind the formation and damage of atherosclerotic plaques and propose a new strategy for preventing atherosclerotic diseases.
