Opis:: Proper description of thermo-hydrodynamic processes in seas is important for scientific and for many practical purposes. Among mathematical models, deterministic models, basing on the set of conservation equations, and calculating the response of the modelled system on the external forcing, are now being most intensively used by researchers. Reliable forecast of thermo-hydrodynamic processes is one of the most important applications of the geophysical fluid dynamics. In this paper, we concentrate on problems of validation of the particular deterministic operational model for the Baltic Sea, the HIROMB model. Possibilities of observations and measurements useful for the model validation in the Polish zone of the Baltic Sea are discussed.

Opis:: The part of the experiment POLRODEX'97 was a set of drift experiments including the rhodamine spill, life raft and dummy-man drifting experiment. The experiments have been realised in order to both verify the hydrodynamic model results and increase the knowledge on drifting object behaviour including the possibilities to model the object drift using the operational results of HIROMB model. The results of the drifting experiments are shown. Some deficiencies in operational hydrodynamic and meteorological models are named.

Opis:: This paper presents an analysis of the excavation torgue signal with the use of a Continuous Wavelet Transform. The article also presents results of preliminary research on utilising neural networks to identify excavating cutting tools type used in multi-tool excavating heads of mechanical coal miners. Selected wavelet coefficients were used as data to teach artificial neural network. The research is necessary to identify rock excavating process with a given head, and design adaptation system for control of mining process with such a head. The results of numerical analyses conducted with the use of Neural Networks are presented.
Artykuł przedstawia analizę sygnału momentu urabiania z wykorzystaniem ciągłej transformaty falkowej. Praca przedstawia ponadto rezultaty wstępnych badań nad wykorzystaniem sztucznej sieci neuronowej do oceny rodzaju narzędzi urabiających głowic wielonarzędziowych kombajnu górniczego. Do nauki sieci neuronowej wykorzystano wybrane współczynniki falkowe. Badania te niezbędne są do identyfikacji procesu urabiania w celu opracowania adaptacyjnego systemu sterowania pracą głowicy kombajnu. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analiz numerycznych, wykorzystując sztuczne sieci neuronowe.

Opis:: Clinical observations of a group of Vietnam students - embracing 60 men from 18 to 35 years of age, are described. Registered at the beginning parasitoses of alimentary tract are on table 1, various combinations of infection are given on the table 2. Objective - physical and laboratory examinations have shown only insignificant deviations from the normal condition. Radiological examinations of the alimentary tract have disclosed the presence of negative shadows corresponding to the intestinal worm (helminth) located in a section of the jejenum (Fig. 1-4). The group discussed above was treated with: Antivermin (Polfa), Dilombrin (Pfizer) and Telmid (Eli-Lilly) in generally applied doses, in two series. No side effects were noted. The results obtained following two series of treatment - the examination of faeces has shown negative results in 60% - point to the necessity of further treatment of the above mentioned group of students.

Opis:: W pracy przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów rezystywności olejów bazowych – mineralnego i syntetycznego – i ich mieszanin z dialkiloditiofosforanem cynku (ZDDP) oraz olejów komercyjnych – dwóch świeżych i jednego zużytego – w funkcji temperatury. Badano także wpływ zewnętrznego stałego pola elektrycznego otrzymanego wskutek przykładania stałego napięcia o różnych wartościach i polaryzacjach między uszczelnienie wargowe i obracający się uziemiony wał na jego moment hamujący w przypadku olejów bazowych bez i z dodatkiem ZDDP. Dodatkowo zaprezentowano w pracy wpływ rezystywności olejów komercyjnych na moment obrotowy wału dla różnych wartości i polaryzacji napięć stałych.
In the paper, the results of measurements of resistance of mineral and synthetic base oils and their blends with zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP), and of commercial (formulated) oils — two fresh oils and one used oil — as a function of temperature are presented. In addition, the effect of an external DC electric field on the braking torque of a rotating shaft for the base oils with and without ZDDP was examined. The DC electric field was obtained when DC voltage of different values and polarities was applied between the grounded shaft and the stiffening ring of a rotating lip seal. Additionally, the influence of the resistance of commercial oils on the braking torque for different DC voltages of both polarities is presented.

Opis:: W pracy przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów potencjału elektrycznego i momentu hamującego w układzie obracający się wał–olej–uszczelnienie wargowe. Podczas ruchu obrotowego wału w wyniku triboelektryzacji są generowane ładunki elektryczne, które wytwarzają pole elektryczne w filmie olejowym. Część linii pola elektrycznego wytwarzanego przez naelektryzowane cząstki oleju zamyka się do pierścienia usztywniającego uszczelnienia wargowego i indukuje w nim potencjał elektryczny, który jest mierzony elektrometrem. Wartość i znak potencjału elektrycznego zależy od rodzaju oleju, prędkości obrotowej wału i temperatury oleju. Pod działaniem siły Coulomba część naelektryzowanych cząstek oraz cząstki polarne są przyciągane do powierzchni wału, gdzie już istnieje elektryczna warstwa podwójna, którą dodatkowe ładunki „wzmacniają”. Położenie i wartość pozostałej części ładunków elektrycznych w objętości oleju ma charakter stochastyczny i rozkład ładunków nie jest jednorodny wskutek dyfuzji cząsteczek i ruchu cieczy, wywołanego ruchem obrotowym wału. W związku z tym można się spodziewać, że w filmie olejowym mogą występować lokalne zagęszczenia i rozrzedzenia oleju, a tym samym wzrosty lub spadki jego lepkości, co z kolei implikuje wzrost lub spadek wartości momentu hamującego.
The paper presents the results of measurements of the electric potential and braking torque in the friction junction, which is in a rotating metal shaft–base oil–rotary lip seal system for different ranges of the base oil’s temperature and of the shaft’s angular velocities. The system is an interfacial one and consists of two interfaces: shaft–oil film and oil film–lip seal. When a shaft rotates, intense tribocharging occurs, and an electric field forms that generates the flow of charge within an oil film between two electrical double layers at both surfaces of a shaft and a lip of a rotary lip seal. It is of interest that, within a narrow range of the oil’s temperature, a local change in the rotating torque occurs – a local extremum (minimum) – while the potential difference changes its sign from negative to positive. In the research, the synthetic PAG (polyalkylene glycol) and PAO base oils and a fluorocarbon rotary lip seal are used.

Opis:: In the paper the system of digital marine forecast, covering the Polish area of the Baltic Sea, developed in the Department of Operational Oceanography, Maritime Institute, for the needs of rescue services and marine administration, is described. The present system uses data from different Polish and foreign operational centres, and generates its own forecast, as it is in the case of wind waves or object drift. The combined forecast is processed into the formats demanded by the services and is available also in Internet at Department 's web site.
