Opis:
We put forward a finite element method for static problems of cubic quasicrystals by variation of a suitable general potential functional. As an example we study a quasicrystal column containing a penny-shaped crack. The comparison with analytical results shows that the precision and efficiency of the numerical solution are satisfactory. The procedure can be used to solve more complicated boundary value problems and can be extended towards more sophisticated methods of crack tip loading analysis.

Opis:
Clinching is an effective joining technique for lightweight sheet materials that are difficult or impossible to weld. A theoretical model for clinched joints in metal sheets was established and a design method for improving joint strength by selecting different clinching tools was proposed. The analytic model is defined as a function of the neck-thickness and the undercut, which are the key parameters of joint geometry. Based on the analytic model, the design method of clinched joint strength that can satisfy required strength was proposed. Clinching experiments were conducted with 2.00 mm thick aluminium alloy 5052 sheets. Various conditions were used during the clinching process to validate the joint strength model. Tensile-shear strength of clinched joints was measured by a servo-hydraulic testing machine. The calculated joint strength was in good agreement with the experimental results.

Opis:
22 representative antibiotics, including 8 quinolones (QNs), 9 sulfonamides (SAs), and 5 macrolides (MCs) were selected to investigate their occurrence and removal efficiencies in a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and their distribution in the receiving water of the Chaobai River in Beijing, China. Water quality monitoring was performed in an integrated way at different selected points in the WWTP to explore the potential mechanism of antibiotics removal during wastewater treatment. Water quality of the Chaobai River wa s also analyzed to examine environmental distribution in a river ecosystem. The results showed that within all the 22 compounds examined, 10 antibiotics were quantifi ed in wastewater influent, 10 in effluent, and 7 in river. Sulfadiazine (SDZ, 396 ng/L) and Sulfamethazine (SMZ, 382 ng/L) were the dominating antibiotics in the influent. Both the conventional treatment and advanced Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) system was important for the removal of antibiotics from the wastewater. And the concentrations of selected antibiotics were ranged from 0–41.8 ng/L in the effluent-receiving river. Despite the fact that the concentrations were reduced more than 50% compared to effluent concentrations, WWTP discharge was still regarded as a dominant point-source input of antibiotics into the Chaobai River.

Opis:
In this study, a new composite laminated shell model is proposed for free vibration and stability analysis based on the refined zigzag theory (RZT). In contrast to the published shell models based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), piecewise-linear zigzag functions are utilized to provide a more realistic representation of deformation states of a transverse shear-flexible shell. In the present formulation, the governing equations and boundary conditions of composite laminated shells are established by d’Alembert’s principle to obtain natural frequencies and critical buckling loadings. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of the present new model for composite laminated shells, examples of free vibration and buckling analysis are carried out for cylindrical and spherical shells involving different lamination schemes and design parameters. The results are compared with the three dimensional (3D) exact, first-order and some high-order solutions in the literature. Numerical results show that the present model not only has high accuracy but also has superior computational efficiency in comparison with high-order models, such that it may show a great potential in engineering applications.

Opis:
Scandium and its compounds have excellent properties, and are widely used in cutting-edge fields such as optics, electronics, and alloys. Thus, scandium is an important strategic metal. However, scandium is extremely sparsely distributed in the earth's crust, rarely occurs as an independent mineral, and requires a complex recovery process. Therefore, the study of the extraction of scandium is of great practical significance. This study examined the leaching test and kinetics of scandium under the acid leaching system of refractory anatase ore. Under appropriate two-stage countercurrent leaching conditions, the first stage of the particle size of fraction of -0.074 mm 82.6%, initial H2SO4 concentration of 6 mol/L, leaching temperature of 100 °C, acid/solid ratio of 3 ml/g, stirring speed of 300 rpm, and leaching time of 50 min; and the second stage of the initial H2SO4 concentration of 11 mol/L, leaching temperature of 150 °C, acid/solid ratio of 4 ml/g, stirring speed of 300 rpm, and leaching time of 50 min, a scandium leaching rate of 96.98% was achieved. The kinetics of scandium leaching conformed to a shrinking-core model, and sulfuric acid concentration and temperature were the most important parameters affecting the scandium leaching rate. The kinetic analysis of scandium leaching at different sulfuric acid concentrations showed that as the concentration increased, the sulfuric acid leaching of scandium changed from being chemical reaction-controlled to internal diffusion-controlled, and the apparent reaction order was 1.2429. The kinetics of scandium leaching at different temperatures showed that the sulfuric acid leaching of scandium was reaction-controlled and the apparent activation energy was 42.21 kJ-mol-1.

Opis:
The sodium silicate sands hardened by microwave have the advantages of high strength, fast hardening speed and low residual strength with the lower addition of sodium silicate. However, the sodium ion in the sands will absorb moisture from the atmosphere, which would lead to lower storing strength, so the protection of a bonding bridge of sodium silicate between the sands is crucial. Methyl silicone oil is a cheap hydrophobic industrial raw material. The influence of the addition amount of methyl silicone oil modifier on compressive strength and moisture absorption of sodium silicate sands was studied in this work. The microscopic analysis of modified before and after sodium silicate sands has been carried on employing scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy spectrum analysis(EDS). The results showed that the strength of modified sodium silicate sands was significantly higher than that of unmodified sodium silicate sands, and the best addition of methyl silicone oil in the quantity of sodium silicate was 15%. It was also found that the bonding bridge of modified sodium silicate sands was the density and the adhesive film was smooth, and the methyl silicone oil was completely covered on the surface of the sodium silicate bonding bridge to protect it.

Opis:
The Aselliscus Stoliczkanus bat, studied here, has intricately shaped structures surrounding the nostrils. These structures are hypothesised to have influence on animals’ acoustic radiation patterns. Using micro-tomography scanning technique, a 3D digital model of the noseleaf is reconstructed and biosonar beam pattern is analysed using a finite element method based on the 3D noseleaf model. The present research focuses on the conspicuous furrows in noseleaf, and our analysis allows to conclude the followings: a) structural details in noseleaf of Aselliscus Stoliczkanus bat can produce acoustic effects even if it is not adjacent to the nostrils, b) the furrows possess frequency-selective characteristics, c) the furrows have the function to manipulate the direction and width of the outgoing ultrasound wave.

Opis:
In the paper we present an implementation of resonance coupling between a unidirectional air waveguide and two cavities with one-way rotating state in a two-dimensional dielectric photonic crystal and a magneto-optical photonic crystal. We theoretically calculate the dispersion curves of the line defect waveguide and the dispersion curves of waveguide-cavity interaction, respectively. Numerical simulations show that, via waveguide-cavity coupling, a series of interesting resonance phenomena can be generated in the system. By modifying direction of the applied external magnetic field, storing and discharging of photonic energy can be realized. Our work may provide a practical and useful guidance for optical communications.

Opis:
With the gradual scarcity of high-quality sand and gravel resources, the increasing mud content in concrete aggregates could strongly adsorb on polycarboxylate superplasticizers (PCE), greatly reducing their working performance. Modifying the molecular structure of PCE or compounding sacrificial agents can effectively improve the tolerance to clay minerals. In this article, using different small molecule polyols and polypropylene glycol (PPG) as examples, density functional theory (DFT) was employed to simulate the adsorption between clay minerals and hydration products. This exploration aims to further understand the anti-clay performance of various sacrificial agents from the perspective of adsorption energy. Ca-montmorillonite (CaMMT) exhibits the lowest adsorption energy among different clay minerals, making it the preferred site for sacrificial agent adsorption. With an increase in hydroxyl number, the adsorption energy between polyol sacrificial agents and montmorillonite decreases. Among polymeric polyols, the adsorption energy between PPG 600 and montmorillonite is the lowest (-10.86 eV), indicating superior anti-clay performance by preferentially occupying active sites on montmorillonite. As the interlayer spacing of montmorillonite increases, the adsorption energy between PPG 600 and montmorillonite initially decreases and then increases, reaching the lowest value at c=15.5 Å. There are more electron transfers (0.858) compared to the electron gain and loss, confirming more interaction between the sacrificial agents and montmorillonite at 15.5Å. This article also provides a crucial theoretical basis for the structural design of anti-clay sacrificial agents, offering insights into addressing compatibility issues between PCEs and clay minerals.
