Opis:
Road violence is a major problem that does not yet have a universally accepted definition. It is important to consider violence in the context of the road in order to prevent it. Road criminology focuses on the study and prevention of trafic- related deviations and problems generated aeftr and accident. There is a lack of general knowledge about the reality of crime in the road environment; the society is not aware that certain behaviours of harassment and aggression cause risky situations and fatal results. It is essential to address the problem, defining and delimiting it to combat it. Education is once again essential to prevent crime and to put an end to social permissiveness around unacceptable behaviour related to road safety.

Despite the shifting ideologies of gender of the seventeenth century, the arrival of the first actresses caused deep social anxiety: theatre gave women a voice to air grievances and to contest, through their own bodies, traditional gender roles. This paper studies two of the best-known actresses, Nell Gwyn and Anne Bracegirdle, and the different public personae they created to negotiate their presence in this all-male world. In spite of their differing strategies, both women gained fame and profit in the male-dominated theatrical marketplace, confirming them as the ultimate “gender benders,” who appropriated the male role of family’s supporter and bread-winner

This work constitutes a historical-pedagogical reflection focusing on the philosophical foundations of Jesuit pedagogy or education for peace through the thought of Francisco Javier Clavijero, in particular, his works Ancient History of Mexico and Particular Physics. The authors studying Clavijero found that his thought included the following foundations of education for peace: eclectic attitude expressed in a search for the reconciliation of modernity with tradition; the use of verisimilitude as a criterion of knowledge in the process of adjustment to the truth within the philosophy of nature and history; and a belief in the knowledge of the different philosophical systems, in which the truth is found. According to Clavijero, education, at first, represents means or a pretext to refute the insults of European philosophers concerning the supposed inferiority of Mexicans, based on the reason. Education could be understood as the principle on which a political-social system is based, in this case of the society of ancient Mexicans. Education is the resource that enables the transmission of laws and customs, in short, a worldview of the world, which can be understood in terms more typical of culture.

Prezentowana praca jest wynikiem badań historycznych i pedagogicznych, których celem było określenie filozoficznych podstaw edukacji dla pokoju poprzez udokumentowaną i bibliograficzną analizę naukowego dziedzictwa wybitnego przedstawiciela zakonu katolickiego jezuitów Francisa Javiera Klavihero, w szczególności jego dzieł „Starożytna historia Meksyku” i „Fizyka specjalna”. Autorzy odkryli, że podstawową edukacją na rzecz pokoju są następujące pomysły Claviero: eklektyczne podejście do badań naukowych poprzez integrację innej wizji rzeczywistości, a mianowicie współczesności i tradycji; wykorzystywać w procesie poznania prawdy kryteriów różnych systemów filozoficznych; kierunek procesu wiedzy w kanale filozofii przyrody i historii. Według Claviero obraz rdzennych Meksykanów, przedstawicieli starożytnych wysoko rozwiniętych cywilizacji Ameryki, został niesprawiedliwie upokorzony przez niektórych europejskich filozofów oświecenia. W swoich pismach Claviero rozumie świat jako ważny element systemu społecznego każdego kraju i analizuje strukturę edukacyjną starożytnych Meksykanów, bada zasady, na których się opiera. W przypadku Claviero edukacja jest mechanizmem umożliwiającym przekazywanie praw i zwyczajów, światopoglądu, tradycji i kultury w ogóle.

Magnetic circular dichroism at the oxygen K-edge in microcrystals of spinels grown on Ru(0001)

We have measured the circular magnetic dichroism in the x-ray absorption at the K-edge of oxygen in microcrystals of different spinel oxides. The microcrystals are islands of micrometric size and nanometric thickness, grown on Ru(0001) substrates using high-temperature oxygen-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. The domains observed in the oxygen K-edge dichroism have the same distribution and orientation as those observed in x-ray magnetic circular dichroism at the L3 edge of the octahedral cations. Integrating the area from a single domain, x-ray magnetic circular dichroic spectra of oxygen were measured and, by the application of the K-edge sum rule, non vanishing orbital magnetic moments aligned with the octahedral cations were found. Density functional theory calculations, which did not show any orbital moment at the oxygen anions, indicate that the energy ranges where oxygen dichroism is observed correspond to those with significant hybridization with the cations d bands. They also show a correlation between the magnitude of the measured value of the oxygen orbital moment and the theoretical one for the cations, and demonstrate that this trend is preserved in the presence of Fe excess in the samples. Our experimental XMCD suggest, following the density functional theory calculations, that the origin of the oxygen magnetic moment lies in the hybridization of the oxygen unoccupied p-derived bands with the cation bands, mostly with the d-derived ones and does not correspond to a localized orbital magnetic moment in the oxygen in spinels.

In Mexico, Solanum rostratum has been employed for the treatment of several diseases, including uterine cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic activity of extracts of Solanum rostratum Dunal on MDA and SiHa cell lines. The methanolic, ethyl acetate, and hexane extracts of the aerial parts of Solanum rostratum were tested for phenols concentration, antioxidant activity, and anti-carcinogenic effect. The leaves extracts showed the highest content of phenols; however the flower-fruits extracts showed higher scavenging activity. On the other hand, ethyl acetate extracts exhibited the highest anti-carcinogenic effect, while methanolic extracts showed the least effect. The results of this work indicated that Solanum rostratum is a promising source of antioxidants, and the extracts exert a dose-dependent anti-carcinogenic effect on both cell lines.

Foreign language teachers and researchers face a major challenge enabling students’ learning. Not only must they provide training in the target language, but they must also find ways to optimise class time and enhance students’ communication skills in the target language. How does technology intersect with English teaching in ways that benefit learning? A possible approach would align with integrating web-based strategies and optimising class time through new methodologies, techniques and resources. In this study, a group of university engineering students were taught with simulations to aid their learning of English as a foreign language. These engineering students were taught English through both class-based and a large-scale real-time web-based simulation. We present the results of quantitative analysis of students’ oral production. The goal was to show whether simulation-based instruction contributes to significant progress in oral language production in English. The results indicate that students progressed significantly in four language-related areas: vocabulary, pronunciation, variety of expression and grammar.

Individual differences (IDs) have long been considered one of the most important factors explaining variable rates and outcomes in second language acquisition (Dewaele, 2013). While traditional operationalizations of IDs have, explicitly or implicitly, assumed that IDs are static traits that are stable through time, more recent research inspired by complex dynamic systems theory (Larsen-Freeman, 1997, 2020) demonstrates that many IDs are dynamic and variable through time and across contexts, a theme echoed throughout the current issue. This study reports the initial semester of a diachronic project investigating the dynamicity of four learner IDs: motivation, personality, learning and cognitive styles, and working memory. In the initial semester, data from 323 participants in their first year of university-level Spanish were collected and analyzed to determine what type of variability may be present across learners with respect to the four IDs studied at one time point and to discern possible learner profiles in the data or patterns via which the data may be otherwise meaningfully described. The results revealed four types of learner profiles present in the dataset.
