Opis:
Istota morale tkwi w identyfikacji z własnym państwem, celach wojny, kulturze środowiska wojskowego, cechach osobowości żołnierzy i warunkach materialnych. Wysokie morale stymulują, dynamizują i aktywizują żołnierzy do osiągnięcia celów i realizacji zadań. Należy zwrócić szczególną uwagę na fakt, iż morale zawsze było, jest i będzie niematerialnym czynnikiem przewagi nad przeciwnikiem na polu walki.
The article comes out with the question about the soldiers’ morale in the Polish Army. The author shows different ways to express the concept of the morale which is not possible to explain unambiguously. The morale is a mental, emotional, spiritual, individual condition. It is also a value which supports soldiers, especially during the hardest situations, making them brave enough to hand with exhaust and danger. A good morale consists of: self-confidence, courage, discipline, friendship, responsibility. It is, as well, the faith that the achieving goal is right. Passivity, aggression, immunity, the lack of responsibility for tasks which were supposed to be done- all of those characterizes the low morale. The idea of morale we can find in the identification with own country, aims of a war, character of army’s air, personal attitudes of soldiers and the financial conditions. The high morale stimulates, dynamises, activates soldiers to reach the goals and to execute tasks. It is worth remembering that the morale always was, is and will be an insubstantial factor of dominance over the enemy on the battlefield.

Opis:
The article concerns the security problem in the axiological context. The author presents the review of contemporary definition of this notion dedicating a lot of attention to security as the special and fundamental value in life of every human being. The attempt to present multidimensional character, essence and function of security in life of an individual or a community and particularly stressing the meaning of so called the world of human existence meaningful values in making is for such a perspective. The fact that the principle of reverence, the principle of reverence for every, not only human being; is closely connected to this fundamental value is highlighted there.

Opis:
The article deals with the problems of chosen concepts of security which have occurred over the centuries. The author of the article raises an issue concerning: the value of security in philosophy and ethics throughout history, peace and freedom as universal categories of security, the concepts of security and its value in relation to Christian ideas in homilies of John Paul II and the contemporary concept of security. The presented concepts of security in philosophy and ethics emphasize the exceptional value of peace and security. The state of international, personal and structural security depends on how countries will care of common security.

Opis:
One of the most important threats for open peat bog ecosystems is encroachment of woody species, which causes transformation of habitat conditions and leads to retreat of specialised species. Drainage increases the rate of succession. The aim of study is the assessment of human-accelerated succession in a transitional bog. The study was conducted in ‘Mszar Bogdaniec’ nature reserve (W Poland). The structure of vegetation and tree stands was described and compared using ordination methods. Near the peat bog border, tree stands of Betula pubescens developed. Towards the middle part of the peat bog, the number, cover and height of trees decreased. The central part of the peat bog was covered by Sphagno recurvi–Eriophoretum vaginati in dryer parts and Sphagno recurvi– Eriophoretum angustifolii in wetter parts. The study showed that the successional sequence in these conditions differs from the classical bog succession scheme. Despite high propagule pressure of Pinus sylvestris, the most important woody species was B. pubescens, which performed better than other species. Erechtites hieracifolia, an alien invasive herb species, which previously was rarely recorded in bogs, appeared when the bog was dried by drainage. In this study, it reached high frequency and abundance, which shows that it may be a next serious threat to disturbed wetland ecosystems.

Opis:
The royal fern (Osmunda regalis L.) is a threatened species, which reaches the northeastern border of its natural range in Poland. The number of royal fern stands is decreasing due to decline of its natural habitat – alder carrs. The main aim of this paper was to compare features of stands in habitats representing different levels of anthropogenic transformation and to investigate all stands of the royal fern in the ‘Baszków’ nature reserve (3.76 ha; Krotoszyn Forest District, Poland). We distinguished four plant communities within the nature reserve: Carici elongatae-Alnetum, Molinio-Pinetum, Leucobryo-Pinetum and Pinus-Padus. In total, we found 144 royal fern specimens within the nature reserve area growing in 20 stands: 97 specimens in Carici-Alnetum (9 stands), 32 specimens in Molinio-Pinetum (4 stands) and 15 specimens along a drainage ditch (7 stands). Specimens from Carici-Alnetum had the highest proportion of sporophylles (41%), which shows the habitat preferences of the royal fern. Low proportion of sporophylles and the low number of specimens in the stands in ditches prove lower vitality of royal ferns and possibility of local extirpation in these stands. Royal fern populations in secondary habitats such as ditches and borders of forest divisions should be particularly monitored. Passive royal fern protection in the nature reserve gave positive results due to better availability of light, connected with mortality of some trees.

The alkalization of soil is a common phenomenon in forest ground nurseries. Liming, inadequate fertilization and the use of hard water for irrigation are the main reasons for this alkalization. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fertilization with aluminium sulphate on soil pH, the activity of selected soil enzymes, efficiency as well as the growth parameters of pine seedlings. The study was conducted in a forest nursery, on a plot with soil pH 6.4 in water and 5.9 in 1 M KCl. Such a pH is not conducive to the production of conifer seedlings, particularly pines. Two different doses of aluminium sulphate fertilizer were applied: 740 kg ha-1 and 1110 kg ha-1. Both doses significantly reduced the soil pH, whereas soil enzyme activity did not change. The lower dose had a positive impact on the growth parameters of pine seedlings, while the higher dose led to their deterioration. We observed statistically significant differences in average primary and lateral root lengths, number of short roots, and thickness of the neck root of seedlings. One- and 2-year-old seedlings did not show symptoms of nutrient deficiency and neither did concentrations of the investigated macronutrients and selected micronutrients in needles indicate such. After applying the higher fertilizer dose, we observed a favourable change in the composition of mycorrhizae. Out of the potential seedling pathogens we found Cylindrocarpon spp., Fusarium spp., Phytophthora spp., Pythium spp. and Rhizoctonia solani of which the most frequent were Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium spp. and R. solani. Their occurrence frequency differed between the treatments used in this experiment. This study confirms the positive effects of a low aluminium dose on the performance and growth parameters of pine seedlings. However, on the basis of the conducted experiments, it is difficult to say, whether this positive effect is due to a direct action of aluminium on the seedlings or rather an indirect effect caused by lowering the soil pH, which in turn impacts on mycorrhizae composition and hence pathogen development.

Opis:
Background: The formation of vascular lipid droplets (LDs) induced by vascular inflammation or lipid overload contributes to vascular pathophysiology in diabetes and cardiometabolic diseases, while sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2-I) are beneficial in treating these conditions. Thus, we hypothesized that SGLT2-I would directly modify vascular LDs formation during vascular inflammation or lipid overload, and explored underlying mechanisms. Methods: LDs formation in isolated murine aorta from wild-type or SGLT2-KO animals was induced by either treatment with tumour necrosis factor (TNF) to induce vascular inflammation or using oleic acid (OA) to mimic lipid overload. Vascular LDs and markers of vascular inflammation were monitored through fluorescence microscopy. Pharmacological inhibitors of sodium-hydrogen exchanger 1 (NHE1), endothelial sodium channels (EnNaC), sodium-calcium exchanger (NCX), protein kinase C (PKC), and NOX1/4 were used to test their role in empagliflozin’s effects on vascular LDs. Results: Empagliflozin, dapagliflozin or ertugliflozin inhibited LDs formation in aorta exposed to TNF or OA. Empagliflozin reduced vascular inflammation (based on ICAM-1) and TNF/OA-induced LDs formation. These effects persisted in SGLT2-KO mice. Inhibition of NHE1, PKC or NOX1/4 recapitulated empagliflozin’s effects on TNF-induced vascular inflammation, without additional effects of empagliflozin. However, NHE1 inhibition was not involved in the SGLT2-independent reduction of OA-induced LDs formation by empagliflozin. Conclusions: This is the first report demonstrating that SGLT2-I prevent the formation of LDs in the vasculature. Empagliflozin downregulates LDs formation in vascular inflammation or lipid overload via an SGLT2-independent mechanism. Empagliflozin’s protective effects involve the NHE1/PKC/NOX pathway in the TNF response but not in the OA response.
