Opis:
Probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter is a suboptimal Bayesian multi-target filter based on random finite set. The Gaussian mixture PHD filter is an analytic solution to the PHD filter for linear Gaussian multi-target models. However, when targets move near each other, the GM-PHD filter cannot correctly estimate the number of targets and their states. To solve the problem, a novel reweighting scheme for closely spaced targets is proposed under the framework of the GM-PHD filter, which can be able to correctly redistribute the weights of closely spaced targets, and effectively improve the multiple target state estimation precision. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can accurately estimate the number of targets and their states, and effectively improve the performance of multi-target tracking algorithm.

Opis:
The work was carried out in four parallel directions. The thermodynamic activities of oxides of Cr in steel slags were determined by slag-gas equilibration technique. The ratio of Cr2+/Cr3+ in CaO-MgO(-FeO)-AlO3-SiO2-CrO× system slags was measured by X-ray absorption near edge spectra (XANES). High-temperature mass spectrometry method was also used to obtain the distribution of chromium oxides. A mathematical correlation was established for estimating the ratio of Cr2+/Cr3+ as a function of temperature, partial pressure of oxygen and slag basicity. Laboratory investigations of the decarburization of high alloy steels under controlled oxygen potentials have been carried out to retain Cr in the steel phase. A mathematical model has been developed for the decarburization process with controlled oxygen partial pressure. Experimental and theoretical investigations have been carried out in optimizing the Mo-additions to steel in the EAF practice in Uddeholm Tooling AB. Substantial saving of Mo as well as less emissions of Mo-bearing dust are indicated in the study. A salt extraction process was developed to extract the metal values from steel slags. Successful extractions, followed by electrolysis indicate that this could be a viable route towards recovery of metals from metallurgical slags.

Opis:
Stable isotope analyses on carbonates from lake evaporites collected from the non-marine western Qaidam basin yield a positive excursion from Pliocene to Quaternary times. At Dafeng Shan, the Quaternary sequences are composed of alternating layers of celestine/dolomite and aragonite/calcite/barite with distinct isotopic compositions. The sequence described at Dafeng Shan formed in a low energy, hypersaline lacustrine environment as indicated by the microstructures and evaporitic minerals as well as by the absence of lithoclasts. The peloids, ooids and oncoids described are related to microbialactivities in saline lake. The oxygen isotopic composition of the carbonates vary between +34.4 and +39.8‰ (SMOW), representing the heaviest values measured until now. The δ18 O and the δ34 S isotopic composition of the celestine range between 20.1 to 22.3‰ (SMOW) and +19 to +22‰ (CDT) respectively, suggesting sulfur recycling via sulfide oxidation. The carbon isotopic compositions of the carbonates show a large negative excursion of up to -30‰. The microstructures, mineralogy and isotopic compositions as well as the geological context suggest oxidation of methane from a deep source.

Opis:
For modelling the flow transport in unsaturated conditions, we can use hydraulic properties which are expensive and time-consuming to be obtained directly because of high variability and complexity of soil systems. Few studies have been done about pedotransfer functions (PTFs) in smectitic soils. Moreover, the utility of fractal parameters in the prediction of soil water retention curve (SWRC) have not been investigated in these soils. In this study, PTFs have been made for estimating the parameters of van Genuchten (VG) and Dexter models by regression and artificial neural networks methods. Therefore, 69 soil samples were collected from Guilan Province, Iran. Fractal and non-fractal models were fitted to the particle size distribution (PSD) and micro-aggregate size distribution (ASD) and their parameters were calculated. To create PTFs, the parameters of PSD and ASD models were used as estimators. The comparison of the results of the two models of Dexter and VG shows the priority of Dexter model for the purpose of testing of smectitic soils. The results showed the superiority of Fredlund et al. PSD model parameters and fractal parameters of ASD, in the estimation of Dexter and VG SWRC models, respectively. This outcome may be related to the higher accuracy of Fredlund et al. PSD model in the description of the PSD data in the clayey soils. However, the higher number of parameters in comparison to the number of fractal model parameters may be another reason.

Opis:
Abamectin (Avermectin B1a), is a natural fermentation product derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis. Abamectin (Avermectin B1a) is widely used as an insecticide, acaricide, and anthelmintic. The present study assessed the effects of repeated subacute and subchronic exposure to the commercial formulation of abamectin (Vertemic, 1.8% EC) in albino male rats. The toxic effects of abamectin were studied. The various biochemical parameters and histopathological changes were noted. A stomach tube was used to orally administer sublethal doses of abamectin suspended in corn oil to the rats. The animals were divided into four groups. Rats of the group T1 were orally administered a sublethal dose of 30 mg/kg body weight (b.wt.) (1/10 LD50) three times a week for 30 days and the animals in group T2 were exposed to 10 mg/kg b.wt. (1/30 LD50) for 210 days, once a week. Two control groups (C1 and C2) were used in parallel studies, where animals were administered a corn oil vehicle. At the end of the study period, blood samples were collected from all groups to measure plasma alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities, and the levels of creatinine and urea. Also, total protein and RNA contents were determined in the liver and kidney tissues. Changes in biochemical parameters were more intense in male rats from group T2 than those reported in group T1. The levels of ALT, AST, urea and creatinine were significantly elevated in rats from group T2 when compared to the control. In group T2, a significant decrease in the levels of total protein and RNA in both the liver and kidneys was observed. Fertility was also significantly reduced in male rats ingesting abamectin in group T2. The number of offspring was significantly reduced. Histopathological changes were more intense in male rats from group T2 than those from group T1. In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrate that subchronic oral administration of abamectin altered some biochemical parameters which correlated with histopathological changes.

Opis:
The failure behaviors of many real-life systems are very complex and sequence-dependent, and can be modeled by highly-coupled dynamic fault trees (DFTs). Existing approaches for solving DFTs, such as Markov state-space-based or inclusion-exclusion based methods all have their disadvantages. They either suffer from the problem of state space explosion or are subjected to the combination explosion. Additionally, Markov-based approaches become unavailable when components follow non-exponential time-to-failure distributions which prevail in real-life systems. To overcome shortcomings of the methods mentioned above, SFRs (Sequence Failure Regions)-Based numerical simulation approach is first proposed. The proposed method is applicable for a generalized cut sequence as well as highly-coupled DFTs modeling non-repairable systems with arbitrary time-to-failure distributed components. The results of the validation example indicate the reasonability of our proposed approach.

Opis:
The effects of sublethal concentrations of spinosad (Tracer®) on development, fecundity, and food utilization, in the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) were investigated. The fourth-instar larvae were fed on castor bean leaves treated with LC25 (13.9 ppm) or LC50 (57.8 ppm) of spinosad. Pupation and pupal weight were significantly reduced in both LC25 and LC50 treatments, compared with those of the controls. The fecundity rates of females in either LC25 or LC50 treatment were also reduced, compared with the controls. The residual activity of spinosad, applied on cotton at labeled field- and subfield-rates (200 and 70 g active substance (a.s.)/ 200 l water, respectively), was examined against the fifth-instar larvae of S. littoralis. Feeding deterrent effects were significantly demonstrated in larvae that fed on leaves collected from field plots with residual deposits of spinosad at 3 and 7 days old after application (DAA). The residual activity of spinosad on feeding and other metabolic parameters was decreased after 21 DAA indicating that the chemical started to degrade under field conditions. A histological study on midgut from larvae that previously fed on leaves treated with a concentration corresponding to the labeled-field rate of spinosad showed some alterations occurred after 48 and 96 h of treatment, compared to the normal midgut from the controls. The histological alterations included degeneration in the epithelial lining of the midgut and in the peritrophic matrix. Such histopathological effects are presumed to be responsible for the reduction in growth and food utilization caused by spinosad. It is, therefore, concluded that spinosad has sublethal effects on S. littoralis that may affect population dynamics in the field via reductions in survival and reproduction.

Opis:
In the vertical spindle pulverizer (VSP), the large circulation ratio and high ash and sulfur contents in circulating load would result in intensive energy consumption and low grinding efficiency. Although the control of circulating load would help increase the energy efficiency, no quantitative study has been conducted due to the high temperature and pressure in the closed VSP. In this study, response of energy-size reduction to the control of circulating load was studied by the experimental simulation method. Coal mixtures with fine/coarse ratio of 11:1, 8:1 and 6:1 were ground by a lab-scale roller mill. Energy-size reductions of the coarse coal were compared to evaluate the influence of circulating load control. Results showed that the product with the coarse coal increased by 30% when the specific breakage energy was 1.0 kWht–1 as the circulation ratio decreased from 11 to 6. Meanwhile, a breakage characteristic index of the coarse coal was two times higher due to the cushioning effect of fines. Besides, decrease of circulation ratio led to increase of the breakage rate of coarse coal, and the energy saving improved by 57%. With the same energy input of 2.0 kWht-1, the yield of –0.09 mm pulverized fuel (PF) increased from 22 to 43%. Therefore, controlling the circulating load is an effective method to improve the breakage rate of coarse coal and energy efficiency for PF generation.
