This paper discusses the etymology of the Russian word пантера ‘panther’ and its other variants in Old Russian and Russian. The Greek word πάνθηρ is a direct or indirect source of all of the investigated forms, but several other languages (Old Church Sla- vonic, German, French) are involved in the borrowing process as media. The solutions proposed in the article are based on extended method inventory, which includes both traditional methods of historical linguistics and some new proposals connected with extralinguistic factors (Wörter und Sachen method).

The concept of etymological doublets refers to two words within a language ultimately derived from the same etymon. This paper explores etymological doublets found in Old Polish, focusing on terms within Christian terminology originating from Latin. The analysis discusses selected Old Polish etymological doublets, including lucyfer ~ lucyper, hymna (~ imna) ~ hymn, korona ~ koruna ~ krona, and kolęda ~ kalendy (~ kalandy). The article concludes by emphasizing the value of etymological doublet analysis in understanding the linguistic and cultural influences in the history of Old Polish.

The paper focuses on the Old Polish word "kryłos", which was attested twice in court records from Przemyśl in the 15th century. Some existing hypotheses about the word origin and meaning are mentioned, although it has not been discussed before in a satisfactory way. A detailed study of the word’s etymology (concerning Old Ukrainian, Old Russian and Greek) and a precise analysis of the attestations enables us to determine its meaning, different from the meaning proposed in the Dictionary of Old Polish ("Słownik staropolski").

Niniejsza praca magisterska ma na celu wskazanie i opis przejawów gry słów w rosyjskiej powieści "S.N.U.F.F." autorstwa W. Pielewina i analizę przekładu tych przejawów w polskim tłumaczeniu. Praca składa się ze Wstępu, dwóch rozdziałów i Zakończenia. We Wstępie przedstawiono cele pracy i najważniejsze informacje o powieści, jej autorze oraz polskim tłumaczu. Rozdział pierwszy zawiera analizę pojęcia gry słów i możliwych klasyfikacji tego zjawiska oraz teoretyczny opis problemu tłumaczenia gier językowych. Rozdział drugi zawiera przykłady gry słów, wyekscerpowane z tekstu powieści i objaśnienie, w jaki sposób uzyskany został efekt gry słów. Następnie przytaczane są odpowiednie fragmenty polskiego przekładu z opisem decyzji tłumacza. W Zakończeniu zawarte są wnioski wynikające z przeprowadzonej analizy.
The study aims to identify and describe the examples of wordplay in the novel "S.N.U.F.F." of V. Pelevin and analyze the translation of these examples in the Polish version of the novel. The master thesis consists of Introduction, two chapters and Conclusion. In the introductory part the aims of the thesis and general information about the novel, its author and the Polish translator are presented. The first chapter contains a theoretical analysis of the possible definitions and classifications of wordplay and the problems connected with its translation. The second chapter contains examples of wordplay from the novel, the explanation of how the comical effect is obtained and the analysis of the translator’s decisions. In the final part the conclusions are presented.
Целью данной работы является выявление и описание проявлений игры слов в современном русском романе "S.N.U.F.F." В. Пелевина и анализ передачи этих проявлений в польском переводе. Работа состоит из Введения, двух глав и Заключения. В Введении представлены цели работы и главная информация о романе, его авторе и переводчике. Первая глава раскрывает содержание понятия "игра слов" и воспроизводит классификации этого явления. Здесь же - на теоретическом уровне - раскрываются тонкости передачи игры слов в переводе. Вторая глава содержит анализ зафиксированных в романе примеров игры слов с пояснением, каким образом достигается игровой эффект. Далее приводятся соответствующие фрагменты польского перевода с описанием и оценкой решений переводчика. В Заключении находятся итоги анализа.

Tematem pracy są motywy antyczne w poezji Osipa Mandelsztama, jednego z największych rosyjskich poetów dwudziestego wieku. Chociaż temat ten był już obiektem badań różnych uczonych, w mojej pracy poddaję bardziej dogłębnej analizie szerszy wybór utworów, niż miało to miejsce dotychczas. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy staram się zrekonstruować zasady, stojące u podstaw traktowania przez Mandelsztama dziedzictwa antycznego i opisać obraz antyku, jaki wyłania się z jego utworów. Innym celem pracy jest pokazanie, jak użycie motywów antycznych w poezji Mandelsztama zmieniało się w czasie pod wpływem wydarzeń historycznych.
The study focuses on the classical motives featured in the poetry of Osip Mandelstam, one of the greatest Russian poets of the twentieth century. The topic has been partially investigated by various scholars, but my thesis analyzes wider selection of poems in a more complex way, than it has been done before. On this basis I try to reconstruct the principles of Mandelstamian approach to the classical legacy and to describe the image of antiquity, that he creates in his poetry. The other purpose of the study is to show how the usage of classical motives in Mandelstam’s poems, influenced by historical events, had changed over time.

Tematyka pracy dotyczy rosyjskiego wyrazu "пантeра" i innych jego wariantów w językach staroruskim i rosyjskim. Analizie zostały poddane następujące formy: "пантeра", "панъθиръ", "пантирь", "панфиръ", "пантеръ", "паньθиръ", "пантер", "панθир", wszystkie w znaczeniu 'pantera'. Celem pracy jest znalezienie etymologii tych form i opisanie, w jaki sposób trafiły one do języka rosyjskiego. Najważniejsza część pracy dotyczy próby znalezienia etymonu bezpośredniego współczesnego rosyjskiego wyrazu "пантeра". Wyraz ten został zapożyczony z któregoś z języków romańskich. W pracy zaprezentowany został nowy pozajęzykowy argument na korzyść języka francuskiego jako bezpośredniego źródła zapożyczenia.
The study focuses on the Russian word "пантeра" and its other alternates in Old Russian and Russian. The following forms are examined: "пантeра", "панъθиръ", "пантирь", "панфиръ", "пантеръ", "паньθиръ", "пантер", "панθир", all meaning 'panther'. The aim of the study is to investigate the etymology of these forms and to describe how they appeared in Russian. The most important part of the study focuses on the problem of the etymon of the contemporary Russian "пантeра". It has been borrowed from one of the Romance languages. The new extralinguistic argument is presented to support the hypothesis of the French origin of "пантeра".

The study focuses on the so-called Dybo’s Rule, which, according to some scholars, operated in several branches of the Indo-European language family. As a result of this sound law, the pre-tonic vowels may have been shortened in Italic, Celtic and Germanic languages during the prehistorical period. The phenomenon has been investigated in several papers, but its very existence remains uncertain. The aim of the study is to examine the Latin forms possibly affected by Dybo’s Rule and decide whether the sound law operated or not. The analysis of the forms is based on the comparison with their cognates in the other Indo-European languages.
Tematyka pracy dotyczy tak zwanej reguły Dybo, która, zdaniem niektórych badaczy, objęła swoim działaniem część języków indoeuropejskich. Jej rezultatem miało być skrócenie samogłosek przedakcentowych w językach italskich, celtyckich i germańskich w okresie przedhistorycznym. Choć temat ten był już badany niejednokrotnie, nie jest pewne, czy takie prawo głosowe w ogóle zaszło. Celem pracy jest analiza form łacińskich, które mogły być przedmiotem działania reguły Dybo, oparta na porównaniu z formami pokrewnymi w innych językach indoeuropejskich i próba ustalenia, czy prawo to faktycznie działało.
