Opis:: In this article the author illustrates the activity of police services in Upper Silesia between 1918 and 1922. In introduction the author describes international and political position of Upper Silesia. In this period the special Military Inter-Allied Commission of Control was a temporary legislator and administrator of Upper Silesia. The main task of the Commission was to conduct a plebiscite and divide a disputed territory. It also established its internal policy. Moreover, the Commission had its own police services, which were outlined chronologically in this article. Sicherheitspolizei was the first police service, formed in times of the German Reich. Sicherheitspolizei was replaced by combined plebiscite police, which operated until the division of Upper Silesia between Poland and Germany. In the mean-time a special police, military police and municipal police operated simultaneously in Upper Silesia. During the analysis of particular police service the author paid a close attention to its organization, assignments, conditions of recruitment and attitude to obligation to maintain neutrality towards the plebiscite. Activity of police services was elaborated against the background of the events of that time, such as the plebiscite, Silesian Upris-ings and rivalry between Poland and Germany. The article was mainly based on Polish literature, bilingual archival materials and partially on German literature.

Opis:: The article concerns the theme related to the order of 17 September 1942 issued by Admiral Karl Dönitz, Commander-in Chief of the German submarine fleet during the World War II. In the German literature this order is known as the Laconia Befehl. It was issued in connection with the rescue operation after the sinking of the British ship ‘Laconia’, which was commenced by the crew of a German submarine. Not only weighty military and ethical, but also legal nature issues appear against the background, since in connection with the order issued Admiral Dönitz was charged before the Nuremberg Military Tribunal for war crimes.

Opis:: The importance of parasitic zoonoses continues to increase on both local and global scales as interactions between people and animals become more frequent through global travel, intensification of agriculture, habitat devastation, and changes in world trade patterns. A current and real threat is the potential for a deliberate introduction of a zoonotic disease through the prospect of bioterrorism. Parasitic zoonoses represent significant problems in public health, animal agriculture and conservation, and the meat industry. There is an urgent need for integration of medical and veterinary services, continuous disease surveillance in both humans and animals, the teaching of zoonoses to medical doctors, and intensified research on zoonotic agents and diseases. The convergence of both public health and veterinary services currently represents a real challenge for managing zoonotic diseases.

Opis:: Abstract Microsporidia are single-celled intracellular parasites which occur in a number of animals, both vertebrates and invertebrates. Several species of microsporidia can cause disease in humans in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals. However, the sources of human infection and the routes of transmission of microsporidia have not yet been fully determined, although more and more researchers are of the opinion that microsporidia in humans is zoonotic. The aim of the presented study was to identify the most common microsporidial species in the droppings of raised and wild pigeons in Poland. A total of 139 collective samples of droppings (33 samples of droppings from feral pigeons and 106 samples from raised pigeons) were examined using conventional staining and molecular techniques. Using chromotrope staining and multiplex FISH techniques, the microsporidial spores were found in 12 (8.6%) of the 139 samples of droppings. The spores of Encephalitozoon hellem were detected in five samples of pigeon droppings (3.6%), spores of E. intestinalis in four samples of droppings (2.9%), while spores of E. cuniculi and E. bieneusi were only detected in two samples (1.4%). Furthermore, a mixed infection of E. bieneusi and E. cuniculi was found in a single sample of droppings (0.7%). The presence of microsporidial spores in droppings collected from raised pigeons indicates a risk of infection to humans, mainly pigeon fanciers.

Opis:: Microsporidia are intracellular parasites that cause opportunistic infections in humans of various immunological status. Only a few case reports exist on microsporidial infection in solid organ transplant recipients worldwide. The presented study demonstrates the first case in Poland of Enterocytozoon bieneusi infection in a liver transplant patient. Parasites were diagnosed in stool samples using both modified trichrome staining and PCR.

Opis:: Long term field studies and laboratory experiments demonstrated that synanthropic filth flies can mechanically transmit infectious oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum, an anthropozoonotic protozoan parasite which significantly contributes to the mortality of immunocompromised or immunosuppressed people. C. parvum oocysts are acquired from unhygienic sources, and can pass trough fly gastrointestinal track without alteration of their infectivity and can be subsequently deposited on visited surfaces. Transmission of the oocysts by adult flies occurs via: (1) mechanical dislodgement from the exoskeleton; (2) fecal deposition; and (3) regurgitation, i.e., vomits. Filth flies can cause human or animal cryptosporidiosis via deposition of infectious oocysts on the visited foodstuf, and the biology and ecology of synanthropic filth flies indicate that their potential for mechanical transmission of C. parvum is high.

Opis:: The role of reverse logistics in creating added value for producers of plastics is presented here. The premise is the choice of reverse logistics for plastics on the one hand, considering their versatile applications, such as in the packaging, construction and automotive industries. On the other hand, an extremely important issue is that their production is characterized by high dynamics, has a significant impact on the environment, contributing significantly to the use of the valuable resource that is oil. This paper will focus on the economical and environmental optimization of reverse logistics processes in production enterprises. The presented article is part of a research project on developing application methods for the settlement of environmental-economic support for reverse logistics processes aimed at reducing consumption of energy and raw materials by plastics manufacturers, which ultimately translates into added value in terms of so-called environmental benefits.

Opis:: Sygnałem wejściowym dla miernika migotania światła jest napięcie sieci o częstotliwości 50 Hz, zmodulowane amplitudowo przez zakłócenia niskoczęstotliwościowe. Minimalna głębokość modulacji powodująca irytację człowieka może w zależności od częstotliwości modulacji wynosić ułamki procenta, co daje również niewielkie zmiany wartości skutecznej sygnału mierzonego. W celu umożliwienia rejestracji tak niewielkich zmian, autorzy artykułu do separacji galwanicznej i obniżenia napięcia mierzonego do poziomu napięcia wejściowego elektronicznego układu miernika zamiast transformatora z odczepami na uzwojeniu pierwotnym, (stosownie do zaleceń normatywnych) [1]) zastosowali elektroniczny przekładnik napięciowy LV100 z kompensacją strumienia magnetycznego w rdzeniu. W artykule zaprezentowano rozwiązanie dzięki któremu można było w prosty sposób zmieniać zakres napięcia wejściowego poprzez włączenie w obwód pierwotny przekładnika, rezystora o odpowiedniej wartości.
Input signal to the flicker meter is a voltage of frequency 50 Hz, and amplitude modulated by a low-frequency disturbances.
